I bought the Phantom and I’m so, so pleased with it. I was hoping I could find a demo by you first but found one and I’m not disappointed. Oh and it looks great too! 😊
Alex, because of you, I bought a Flight Phantom, second hand, on eBay. It is beyond superb! Thank you so much for your review. I love it. I’m just sorry that I couldn’t have got it from yourself.

Hi Alex, thanks for the review - up to your normal standard of a lively mixture of humour and fact... So impressed, I bought a Diana Soundthing (from you of course) last Sunday evening. I went for that because I already have the Snail. Now its arrived, I'm really pleased. All I have to do now, is play it as well as you.
Between the Phantom and the Voyager Tenor, the difference is only the wood if I have understand ? On the video for me, the Phantom sound warmer than the Voyager isn’t it ?
I bought the Phantom model and it is superb, really well made and has a lovely sweet tone. I think it is very reasonably priced for a solid wood model with ebony fingerboard. Add in the pickup and it becomes a bit of a bargain. The woods are well matched on my particular model and every time I get it out of the case it still strikes me how good looking it is. It pays to try out a few different ukes to get the one that fits you best.
I’m making the rounds on these reviews. I have the Flight Mustang and the fret wires are larger than any I have encountered. It makes a .3 mm space difference in the fret width. It sounds like an insignificant difference but it definitely cramps my fingers at the higher fret. The fret wire is also higher making the intonation delicate if you press too hard. For a guy with arthritis this small difference makes it harder for me to play. I lowered the strings as low as possible without buzzing. It helped but it’s really taking some getting used to. Other than that it’s a beautiful instrument with a beautiful tone and sustain.
Hello Tim, interesting comment of yours. Maybe we can make an exchange…? For my less precise level of play I wish I’d had a Mustang over my Tiny Tenor (Romero Creations uke, in spalted mango). Want to swap? It sounds superb, but hardly used for I much prefer my Flight Comet Tenor. You are right, the fret wires are thin and low on the Tiny Tenor. I prefer something more tactile for want of a better word. I gifted a Flight Mustang to my daughter-in-law last year, had a go at it when visiting her, and adored it! Honestly, I’d prefer the Mustang for myself, too. It’s a genuine enquiry! I’ve ventured backwards into your reviews, Alex, to watch the Spirit segment in particular. I have one on its way as I write, from a retailer here in Australia. I have longed for a decent concert and it happens to be the closest spec’ed to the Mustang (though without that lush look subtle staining to the acacia the Mustang has, nor the acacia fretboard like the M). Thank you, to you, and your mates/colleagues at SUS. I enjoy the playing and ukulele reviews. I don’t ‘need’ any more ukuleles but am bound to be a customer again. Cheers
@@104jinks Thanks but I’ve adjusted to it. I still play my other ukes when I play songs that use 12-14 frets. But that’s just a few. I love the sound. So I’ll keep it thanks.
Flight Phantom Tenor sounds absolutely incredible to me! I've tried Diana and it's a great uke in it's price point and i love to play it. But Phantom one is really it for me, at least according to this video. It looks gorgeous, it sounds fantastic and it isn't too pricey so i can eventually afford it. The question now is, do i go for Diana (which i can get imidiately for a good price) or save up and go directly for Phantom? This is going to be my first ukulele, but i've been playing guitar and bass for 15 years, so i'm definitely interested in buying an instrument worth keeping! Great demo, thank you for making it :)
For what it's worth - I think the Phantom and Mustang are exceptional for the price whereas the Diana is a good Ukulele with lots of peers like the Kala KA-ATP-CTG or the Snail BHC-6T. All the best Alex
@@SouthernUkuleleStore - thank you for the answer! I ended up buying Flight Diana Tenor, since it sounded hands down best of all the ukulele's i've tried so far. Sadly i couldn't find the Phantom model in our area to try it out (couldn't even order it), but i'll definitely get my hands on it one day! Meanwhile i'm really happy with the uke i got. Note that the pickup on the Flight Voyager tenor changed in 2022 from a Passive pickup to an Active pickup (Passive Artec "PP404U" to a Double C1U Active pickup). Note also that the controls for the pickup are mounted under the edge of the soundhole so no holes were needed in the shoulder of the instrument body for external controls. Be aware that some older new stock & used Voyagers (2020 to mid-2022) may have the passive pickup. Be sure to confirm you are purchasing the instrument with the pickup you want. Just remember "A" is for "Active" pickup in the newer tenor Flight Voyager model "EQ-A". Lastly, the newer Voyager fretboard is rosewood, not the ebony composite on the older model.
Hi! Thanks for your work. It's really informative. I've recently tried a Flight Sophia Tenor Soundwave, and when I changed the strings to the Aquila Red LowG series, it started fuzzing terribly; it sounded like broken metal, the E string in particular, so I returned it. To your knowledge, what might have caused the issue? Would the Phantom Tenor have the same problem? I mean, I have a 100 pounds Luna Tattoo concert ukulele that plays perfectly no matter what the strings are; for an instrument worthing x4, I expected more. Thanks again, hope I find the perfect tenor uke for me!
It sounds like it just needed to be set up after you changed the strings. If the uke worked fine before you changed the strings then it is unlikely the uke is the problem. Different ukes like different strings and the set up is going to be different too from one to the next... that Sophia probably just needed a set up. The other option is that when you restrung it, the cabling inside moved a bit and was suddenly touching the top. When you hear a muted fuzzy sound, it could well be something vibrating inside. Without seeing the uke I have no way of knowing but if the shop that sold it to you took it back without trying to fix it then they probably didn't try to set it up in the first place.
Great introduction to a an impressive batch of ukuleles! I have the Phantom and the Victoria myself. On the wall behind your right shoulder there's a ukulele which looks very much like the Flight Victoria but with a darker top. What model is that?

No worries... As I mention around the 5:00 mark it's a thru-bridge. The strings go through a hole directly into the ukulele. You then tye a knot in the end of the string via the soundhole and pull it tight. 👍

@@SouthernUkuleleStore It was Thomann. Came from Germany. But the real problem for me was the low acoustic volume. Could you comment on that? Would the Vayager be a better fit?
If the Diana isn't loud enough then I don't think any other Flight would be. The Diana and Sophia models are probably the loudest Ukes I've seen from this brand.
