    Flight is certainly creative. And this model is very pretty. They make consistently good products. I enjoy my rock series "Centurion" lp style gold top.

    I have the anniversary faded maple which I really love. But if this had been available, I would have gone with the comet for about $500 less.

    Wow I really like the color but I love the wood and all the grain! Nicely cut sound ports. I would also buy the acoustic if they had it. The head looks nice on this model. I usually don’t like an open head on ukuleles. I think the price is in the ball park on this one. I agree the sound is laid back. Pretty but to me a little disappointing. That said because 90% of the time I play alone in private it would be just fine. Nice review….thanks Baz… DOC

    As an owner of a couple of Fender guitars, I tend to think of maple as a fretboard material, rather than a soundboard candidate. And I am with you on acoustic; I would rather SuperGlue a set of K&K Aloha Twin passives in there (I have two ukes so equipped and, while I own a preamp, don’t feel the need to use it with these). Frankly, not a fan of the color or the shimmery sound. But you know me; I like cedar or mahogany tops.

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I do know someone who bought a Fireball with a pickup like this. The controls are stuck to the top with a sticky pad and very easy to remove. He took it out and bypassed the box to connect the saddle pickup direct to the jack. Then through a pre-amp - works just fine. In fact through most amps I find passives are fine because the pre-amp is the amp itself! Just into a desk where you are going to need a boost.

    • @GotAUkulele

    Great review Baz. Another beauty from Flight. They keep coming up with such lovely sounding / looking instruments.
    Would love to see an affordable 8 string tenor some time in the future. Something akin to the Klos but wooden. That would be nice. Let’s face it they’ve done practically everything else already.

    Great video as always. I really love the look of this uke it is magical looking. I just ordered the Flight Tenor Nighthawk tonight from a US based ukulele store that will do a full set up for me including switching out the Worth brown strings for the Pepe Romero baby Baritone strings. I do have a question regarding the pricing of this ukulele vs the Nighthawk. I noticed the difference in price by me is $306 dollars and was wondering why the comet is so much more money, I can almost buy 2 Nighthawks for the price of the Comet. The specs seem very similar and offer the same features except the Comet has a solid mahogany top vs the Nighthawk's solid spruce top. Is the solid mahogany tone wood and the blue dye job he main reason the Comet is so much more?

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Agreed on price - and I can't work out the reason either!

  • @LairdDavidson

    I prefer natural (or at least close to natural) colour wood, the colours don't really do it for me. I'm also not convinced that I like maple tops, for me the jury is still out on that.
    Still it seems like a nice ukulele overall.
    I prefer my Fireball over the Comet as far as aesthetics and probably sound goes (I've only got reviews of the Comet to go on). Possibly the build quality is slightly better on the Comet, again I don't know.

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep - Fireball is the obvious choice then (i did review the Fireball too in two scales). The build and finish is comparable on the two.

    • @LairdDavidson
      @LairdDavidson ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GotAUkulele thanks for the reply. I did notice some very minor flaws in the manufacture of my Fireball, certainly nothing that would stop me buying another. I can't complain for the price I guess and even some high end guitar manufacturers let similar flaws through.

    Saw these on SUS and 4stringboy playing it. Was hoping you would review. This is lovely, the clarity and warmth sounded sublime. Didn’t realise it had a side sound port as well. Many appointments for the price, I actually really like the green top and think the holographic nature of the maple chosen and coloured is class. My dilemma is my one in one out rule for Ukes I am following. Think this maybe on Santa’s list, in order for me to usurp my own rule 😂. Great review, wish Flight well with this. Have a great week.

    This instrument is a real beauty and sounds great. I agree about the neck dots, maybe it would be better if they were pearly white. I also think it would be nice if there was an acoustic version (or electro-acoustic with passive picl-up). For my taste, the best sounding strings on a maple ukulele are the Aquila Red Series, but these Worth Brown ones also sound great. Thanks for the video, Barry..

    A novel appearance good clarity and fairly priced. That aside, please tell me what your shirt is stating! Thoroughly confused.🤔 Flight is still producing new models that are not just a rehash of old ones. This one makes my Martin hanging on the wall look dowdy but it does not look garish or cheap.

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ha ha - I'm pleased you spotted the shirt - it's a very British institution. (sorry for the very long reply here!!) - For about 150 years now the BBC Radio service has, on certain frequencies, broken several times a day to deliver the shipping forecast to mariners who are in shipping lanes / fishing in our waters as a safety measure - basically a weather forecast for sailors who are heading out, or already out as it can be picked up on the Long Wave radio.
      The names are the territorial water areas of the UK in a generally clockwise order - which if you tune into the forecast halfway just sound like gobbledegook..
      They are...
      Viking, North Utsire, South Utsire, Forties, Cromarty, Forth, Tyne, Dogger, Fisher, German Bight, Humber, Thames, Dover, Wight, Portland, Plymouth, Biscay, Trafalgar, FitzRoy, Sole, Lundy, Fastnet, Irish Sea, Shannon, Rockall, Malin, Hebrides, Bailey, Fairisle, Faeroes, Southeast Iceland.
      Bit of a UK institution and highly important one!

      I’ve had a few pin bridge guitars and ukes over the years where I’ve struggled with pins popping out after changing strings. It must be something I’m doing, so, just as I’ve long known that I’m rubbish at doing my own plastering or plumbing, I’m also rubbish at managing a pin bridge string instrument. 🙄 Shame.

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I do get asked this sort of question a lot, but actually have a policy of not giving recommendations on choices.

Not me trying to be difficult, it’s just that it’s really subjective and different for everyone - we all hear and play differently, but also people have their own preferences on looks, scales, features, decoration etc.
      What I can advise is that you look at the full review list - www.gotaukulele.com/p/ukulele-reviews.html and look at the scores. Anything 8 out of 10 or above gets a recommendation from me one way or the other. Higher the score the better. BUT - higher is better only in MY opinion - you may find differently!

Hope that helps

B

    • @GotAUkulele

    I know it's subjective, and each to their own, but why is it blue (or green)? Sounds great, but I don't like the look at all. If the top looked the same as the back and sides I could go for it. Sorry, but it just looks like a gimmick to me.

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Any style change on any ukulele is a gimmick to some degree
      - designed to sell instruments and meet demand. Clearly Flight di this because there has been a huge move in demand for coloured top instruments that have been selling more than demand can keep up with. Why would brand not go with what people want? Want something more natural looking, go with the Fireball. That's the nice thing about the brand - lots of different choice.
