I like to watch your reviews. How important is setup when shopping for a ukulele. I see these sites like the ukulele site that advertises their setup process, and wondered if a standard setup really improves the playability or is it just hot air to advertise their quality control?
@@ukulelesimon No no, it's powered - it's mentioned in the full review linked below the vid. Thre's a lithium battery in the jack socket which you charge with a USB to Jack cable that comes in the bag. Bit like the MiSi pickup system.
Brilliant review as always. My angle on this is it has a decent pickup for putting through the peddles and amp, with the effects bit for a bit of fun. A couple of questions though, is it the same pickup on the standard Diana (obviously with the funky bits)? Does this have a low G or be ordered with a low G if it doesn't?
The regular, cheaper Diana has a standard pickup (no effects). The ukes come high G and I don't think you can specify low on ordering. Easy to swap yourself.
Just ordered one, I used the GOTAUKULELE discount code for 10% off and used the savings to buy a Freemont squeekless Low G and a couple of other bits. Eagerly awaiting it's arrival now :)
I would like to buy either this ukulele or the flight victoria (which I think you tested as well), because it now also comes with the effects build in. Which uke would you consider to be better?
Is this model also known as Flight Diana TE? Groth Music out of MN in the US but it’s website doesn’t mention Soundwave in their description. Please advise.
GotAUkulele, yes ~ I just learned this. It appears that the Soundwave feature is done after market by another company. Waiting to hear when they’ll be in stock here in the states. Thank you for your quick reply!👏
@@iconiaman Yes - it's a different co (called Double) ,but it's not aftermarket insofar as the shops fit them to Flight Ukes. Flight fit them before sale. Flight are also going to start selling the pickup system separately so you can fit it to other ukes too.
GotAUkulele ~ Excellent! Any word how long it will be before they’re selling both the Diana Soundwave as well as this as a separate system in the United States?
@@GotAUkulele Thanks, that’s a beautiful uke. New player here and really enjoy your reviews. 👍. On your recommendation I bought the Flight acacia travel concert and love it.
A question came to my mind: the battery of the ukulele is changeable? What happens if the battery starts to last shorter or not work? Is it possible to fix it easily?
How good is the original pickup system. I just purchased one but not much info on it? It does seem to have an active pickup near the sound hole with controls.
Hello! I watched your review on this beauty (about 30 times!) and ordered one February 1 and I just received it on March 16, 2020. The TransAcoustic unit only works if it's plugged in and I'm not having any luck with Flight resolving this issue. It did work one morning for about 3 minutes, then it went dead. The Green Light comes on and the yellow one comes on when charging, green when charged. Do you think it's the Transducer that's the problem? Flight told me if I send it back, due to the popularity, I might not get another one, so I'm going to try and fix it myself. I really love it, but the reason I paid so much for it was for the Soundwave effects when NOT plugged in. Thanks in advance for any advice you might give this old lady. Cheers!
Not entirely sure - sounds like the transducer is not doing it's thing in to the back of the uke. It's a really new technology, so don't really know how they are fixed. Sorry!
Flight website has a dealer list for various countries - they don't sell direct themselves any longer - you need to speak to a local dealer to get one.
hey! this is off-topic for the video, but i'm looking to get my first baritone...are there any decent baritones that you would recommend for $200 and under?
@@GotAUkulele i know it's only been two days, but i actually have another question. i'm pretty sure they've discontinued the acoustic-only version; with that in mind, do you think the electric-acoustic will sound just as good, or will the added electronics burden its sound acoustically? if you're not able to give a specific answer, thata perfectly alright. i just quite like this uke.
hello got a ukulele! what about the neck, i know that when you are don't happy with the size of it i'm, because I've very very little fingers, (my size is about 145cm from my feet to my head )unfortunately, i' don't like the sound Hawaiian of soprano ukuleles, i 'have a kai tenor 700 but it is difficult sometimes for me with some kind of accords. i choose ukulele by chance the last year for my birthday, i first try guitar few years ago, but i felt very uncomfortable, so i like groovy and funky sound, i think i know that you are very cautious with advices but perhaps, have you got a little piece of way for me to find the right ukulele match with my soul and my fingers? Anyways we can see when you like a ukulele is written on your face! i like it!
This is a tough one - neck width and profile is VERY personal. However I just prefer wider, flatter profiles because those ARE the trad Hawaiian style - regardless of scale. Really hard for me to advise though as it's not about how tall you are, or even how big your hands are - it's more about dexterity, finger length, finger width. It's totally personal. Now is not the time you can do this, but when lockdown ends I can only advise you go to a good shop and try as many as you can and work out what sort of profile and width works best for you and go for those.
Faults happen - not sure they can be applied to all instruments. Customer care matters too - never needed to use Flight customer returns but I am told they are helpful?
'tis witchcraft! I can't get my head around how that works but work it does. Those grey/red back and side look great, if the top & headstock matched it would be even better.
Think of a transducer pickup - it reads the vibrations a uke makes and turns them into a signal. It's essentially one of those conncected to a vibrating disk which runs in reverse. The processes sound then vibrates back into the body. Very cool concept
I don't like to color scheme at all. To many colors. It is to busy. Between the abalone purfling, the red edging, the color of the top, the wood of the head stock, and that gray color, it's just not visually appealing to me. It reminds me of the color scheme of McDonald's. A McUke. They should have left the back and sides a natural wood color. Get rid of the red and replace it to match the Abalone Purfling of the sound hole. However...the deal breaker is the pickup. You can dress it up with as many effects as you want, in the end, it is a black square drilled into ukulele. I will stay with my passive pick up. I love Flight too. I have the Flight TUSL-35 , and the TUS-50. This one was just a let down for me.
Interesting - I like the padauk trim a lot and think it goes well with the walnut. And darker backs with lighter tops (cedar / spruce) is as old as the hills a combination in guitars and the like. Each to their own of course, and I get that the electronics wont be for everyone. Certainly different though!
@@GotAUkulele It always puzzels me why more uke companies don't do passives. You have more knowledge of this than I. I just like relying on my amp and pedals for control. When I look at the higher end ukes, they always have the passive option for pick ups. I hardly ever see active ones being offered.
@@Bob_Amaral_Photography Well, obviously a passive wouldn't work here - the whole system relies on power and processing to make it work - it's why I understand the controls being there as it's NOT just a pickup. But I am with you on regular pickups. I think there are lots of reasons. They are 'plug in and go' for beginners and run hot enough output into poor and small amps without needing a pre-amp. They are kind of worry free out of the box. But good passives will always sound better and it's why the higher end offer those and I know virtually no professional who plays anything else.

Setup in any ukulele is 110% important. A bad setup means a ukulele will not play properly and likely out of tune. Playing IN tune is critical.
The trans acoustic guitar is pretty awesomeness!
Never played one, but yes I hear they are great!
Just when you think you've seen everything! But how is it powered? Where and what battery dies it have?
Details in written review as always Nigel - lithium battery in the jack socket charged via the same socket
Lovely stuff. Great review. Bosh
Ta muchly!
@@GotAUkulele Any insight into how you charge the battery? Is it a completely passive system?
@@ukulelesimon No no, it's powered - it's mentioned in the full review linked below the vid. Thre's a lithium battery in the jack socket which you charge with a USB to Jack cable that comes in the bag. Bit like the MiSi pickup system.
I love your face when you hear the effects! Hahaha 😄
Such a lot of fun!
@@GotAUkulele That was quick :)
Just ordered one, I used the GOTAUKULELE discount code for 10% off and used the savings to buy a Freemont squeekless Low G and a couple of other bits. Eagerly awaiting it's arrival now :)
Yey, mine arrived today, phew! Fantastic Uke, Low G fitted, just need to learn how to play now :)
😍, can it be find any music instrumental shops in Birmingham?
Not sure - you would need to ask Flight who is on their dealer list
I would like to buy either this ukulele or the flight victoria (which I think you tested as well), because it now also comes with the effects build in. Which uke would you consider to be better?
I can’t decide for you. They are similar quality - it will come down to which you prefer the look of
Is this model also known as Flight Diana TE? Groth Music out of MN in the US but it’s website doesn’t mention Soundwave in their description. Please advise.
Same core uke, but the cheaper one that doesn't mention Soundwave, just has a regular pickup
Yesss some people listen.(to you 😏).
I like the Ukelele a lot, also the effects .
Can you make a Dotted 8th with the Delay 😏.
Thanks for the video.
It's just a dial Mario - not a huge amount of adjustment to it.
Very nice! Do they make a lefty?
Don't think so
@@GotAUkulele Thanks, that’s a beautiful uke. New player here and really enjoy your reviews. 👍. On your recommendation I bought the Flight acacia travel concert and love it.
Sometimes being a lefty is such a curse LOL
A question came to my mind: the battery of the ukulele is changeable? What happens if the battery starts to last shorter or not work? Is it possible to fix it easily?
Yes - cell batteries - easy to swap
How good is the original pickup system. I just purchased one but not much info on it? It does seem to have an active pickup near the sound hole with controls.
Never played it - but it looks to me like a pretty generic active pickup - sort of thing you will get in Kala ukes etc
@@GotAUkulele I will let you know how it sounds when I get it next week. Thx
Thank you. How long does the battery charge of the preamp have?
Supposed to be 10 hours play time, but I admit that I didn't test that specification
Sorry!
@@GotAUkulele Thank you!
l55centaur how did this get resolved?
Wow! Love this one 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Fun isn't it?
How do you order the Flight Diana Soundwave Tenor Ukulele? Thank you!😊
Flight website has a dealer list for various countries - they don't sell direct themselves any longer - you need to speak to a local dealer to get one.
hey! this is off-topic for the video, but i'm looking to get my first baritone...are there any decent baritones that you would recommend for $200 and under?
Probably only the Duke models from Duke of Uke - review on the site
@@GotAUkulele noted! thanks, baz! :)
Sophia D not played anything but this one. What I will say is there is absolutely nothing wrong with the acoustic tone on this one
When you have the ukulele against your body it does seem to cut the effects signal some what.....
Yeah - it has that effect - its because the whole effect thing is created on the back of the uke. Doesn't affect the jack output effects of course
hello got a ukulele! what about the neck, i know that when you are don't happy with the size of it i'm, because I've very very little fingers, (my size is about 145cm from my feet to my head )unfortunately, i' don't like the sound Hawaiian of soprano ukuleles, i 'have a kai tenor 700 but it is difficult sometimes for me with some kind of accords. i choose ukulele by chance the last year for my birthday, i first try guitar few years ago, but i felt very uncomfortable, so i like groovy and funky sound, i think i know that you are very cautious with advices but perhaps, have you got a little piece of way for me to find the right ukulele match with my soul and my fingers? Anyways we can see when you like a ukulele is written on your face! i like it!
This is a tough one - neck width and profile is VERY personal. However I just prefer wider, flatter profiles because those ARE the trad Hawaiian style - regardless of scale. Really hard for me to advise though as it's not about how tall you are, or even how big your hands are - it's more about dexterity, finger length, finger width. It's totally personal. Now is not the time you can do this, but when lockdown ends I can only advise you go to a good shop and try as many as you can and work out what sort of profile and width works best for you and go for those.
Am I a Luddite if I prefer passives and pedals?
Not at all - I do too. But a pedal requires you to plug in and amplify. This is all about applying effects to the acoustic output
I bought a Flight Sophia that is similar. Unfortunately the internal speaker of mine burned after a few uses. Perhaps the cons of this instrument.
Faults happen - not sure they can be applied to all instruments. Customer care matters too - never needed to use Flight customer returns but I am told they are helpful?
@@GotAUkulele I slaped it and it works again! 👌
AWESOME !!!😍
Very much so!
OHHHHHHHHHHH, I want one!! hehe
I suspect there will be a lot of pre-orders!!
@@GotAUkulele I suspect you are correct. That's okay. I can't afford it now anyways. Blew my bucks on family for Christmas..lol
@@GotAUkulele but what a looker it is! You are right thinking if that headstock was the gray and red it would be over the top
@@queentatonka It's lovely!
@@GotAUkulele Cheers, yes I see, I'm just amazed at how well it works, testament to how resonant the body must be.
we took note of matching the headstock :)
WOW, like it so much and I think you too:-)???
Yeah - really great uke!
@@GotAUkulele ok just believe in you, I ordered it :-)
No batterey required??????????????????????
Rechargeable with a USB cable
@@GotAUkulele AHA! said the mime.
Thanks.
You didn’t mention the price
I did.
@@GotAUkulele I agree. I forgot to say thanks for another great review. Myself and others always appreciate the hard work you put in every week. You truly are a rare breed in the ukulele community. With the world of Social Media Influencers pushing sub-standard ukes, you always tell it like it is. Bravo my friend.
