Inspite of multiple visits to Goa in my lifetime, I would have never come across this side of the city if not for this documentary. 19:05 - one of the many best moments throughout the film. Thanks DD
I am sure I am not gonna see GOA the way it has been portrayed or what is it for many after watching this film. Thanks DD for such a beautiful film. VIVA GOA!
I guess people want to see more beaches and parties in Goa. But hoping someday this film will reach most people and give them a gist of what Goa can be.
Goa is special It is blessed with beautiful nature, the hills and the sea. what makes Goa really unique and truly special are the people of Goa, their life, their culture, their arts, crafts, food, dance and music. Whenever I visit Goa, I explore the unknown spots, the markets, the villages, the neighbourhoods .... that is the true essence of Goa
I'm sure no one portrait the Goa with this point of view till yet... This is gem... Every Goan must see this and think about whats your identity... Keep it remain...
Just what exactly i love Goa for. The beauty the serene the peace of this place❤. And the video is completely peace to watch nd how it focused to narrate the actual beauty of Goa and people to know Goa has so much more to offer than alcohols nd clubs.
Viva Goa ! It's culture and traditions, tourism can adversely affect the ethos of a place, so preserve Goa, nice effort, keep it up, local beat - best wishes.
Beautiful film! Wish this kind of tourism reaches more and more"visitors" to Goa, wherever they may come from. Also, it would be great if every region of India has a "local beat" chapter, to help newcomers and visitors get to know the deep roots , the historical aspects and distinctive ways of each area🤩
Great Video. At first I thought that Local Beat was just creating another tourist rich haven and all those beautiful wild places would be overrun, but how refreshing to see that it is the opposite. I have never seen Goa in person, but grew up in my old country with so many Goan friends. Maybe one day I will visit , stay away from the crowds and see those waterfalls, quiet forests.... Thank you for this film. Hope to see more from you.
Hey, Mack & Raul cheers to y'all for doing what y'all do for our Goa. So proud to have witnessed the localbeat way of touristing, surely is a Goenkar approved one!

Yes Goa is a beautiful place. I lived there, and i moved away. Even nature is so beautiful, and i thought, how can i live without the ocean. It became over touristic. Prices, rent not affordable for me anymore. Infrastructure a nightmare. Unless you are younger and driving a bike. Locals often unfriendly and disrespectful. As many hate the tourists, but have to live from there money. I moved away. Sadly. I came to Goa first time 1987 for a visit. Only nature and realy nice people then. Your video is lovely. And i wish you all the best for your life.
I had visited Goa in 2003 and I can relate to what they mentioned about crowds. Back then even I was a Gaon ki chori, so the glitz and glam didn't seem so annoying. But now as someone who has lived in the metros, I always steered away from Goa as I always remembered the crowds. I am planning a trip soon and hope to adapt to and adopt the Susegaad culture. Any tips on how to do that are welcome. I am not very fit so not very sure if I will be able to do the treks, but I am open to suggestions
Hello, Thanks for your comment. I used Sony M-IV and samyang 24-70 f2.8 to shoot most of the scenes. Samyang 24mm T1.8 cine lens for some of the landscapes and interviews. I hope this helps. The monochrome effect is just a post production magic in Da Vinci software.
Well, I believe you will find these places eventually if you roam around in Goa, but I can't reveal them publicly and that's the whole point of this documentary as well to see what's meant to be seen and not commercialize all the places which leads to a lot of impact on the environment and people too.

Beautiful video. You have managed to show very pure, unpolluted areas. But in reality there is too much pollution. perhaps you can involve your guests in cleaning up the beaches and other public areas, and educate the young locals as well.
I have not visited Goa i am 68 yo woman your video has changed my mistake that Goa is for Youth only, that it was never in my itinerary...will go shortly
As a goan I think the main issue is the mindset of tourists coming to Goa. Instead of having real fun they think it's a place to do whatever thing's they couldn't in their native place. I am working in Bengaluru, when I tell my colleagues or people here that I am from Goa, the first thing that comes to their mind is Alcohol, Drugs, girls and beaches. It's so painful when they have that image of my Goa in their mind. I try to convince them, show their our culture but they are so ignorant. Goa has always been an welcoming place for all religions, cultures and people from all places. We have never forced our language and culture on others unlike many parts of India. I have seen so many people complaining about rude behaviour from Goans. But for a moment they should also think from our POV. We welcomed a guest in our house, treated them well but now the same guest is trying to litter the house, disrespect it's culture and traditions so why wouldn't we get angry with him. Long story in short The tourists needs to change the mindset that Goa is a place where they can do any mischief they want and we fellow Goans should not let our culture and traditions and Goenkarpon die. Viva Goa❤
I stay in goa and one of my friend from hyderabad (can't call him friend too since I haven't spoke to him in 10 years) calls me up and asks if I can arrange for girls. This mindset is cheap and disgusting, that's the reason tourists are treated the way they should be in Goa.
I’m not a Goan, but I’ve seen a lot of films and read books on Goan culture, specially Goa before its independence. It’s painful that tourist only associate it with parties and drugs. How ignorant of us to not be aware of its unique cuisine and traditions. Hope the traditions of Goa thrives in tourism as well!
A lovely film. Think its quiet balanced. It could have given a bit more attention to the dangers to Goa from mining, sea ports, open policy to shift demographics and unsustainable numbers of tourists. Viva Goa ! Viva my motherland.
I live half the year in south goa. I love it there and have done since I first visited in 1992. Worst part was when the Russians started coming over about 20 years ago…. Rarely met one I like. Fortunately a lot are now going elsewhere.
Thanks for pointing it out. But I believe there are multiple meanings to the word ' Viva ' and used as interjection in many phrases across Goa. 'Cheers' also makes sense according to the Portuguese Goan Vocabulary.
Unfortunately "dying susegad" I rather feel. I am visiting Goa since the early 2000s and more than 10 visits spanning different parts. Sadly, near recent I am observing a growing rude behavior from the Goans specifically from the tourism industry. The body language and tone of many people working/owning the stays and restaurants is seen quite unwelcoming. For the most part it feels like they do not want any more tourists. Not just the body language but at quite a few places I observed skirmishes between the businesses and tourists even leading to physical fights. So lately I am getting repelled towards the idea of flocking to Goa, even the southern or internal parts. I respect the space that the locals would need in any tourist place such as this, but they definitely need to find a better way of tackling the over tourism and not blemishing the susegad life.
Absolutely loved the film brother. I am a independent filmmaker from Bengaluru and wish to get in touch with you. Kindly let me know how to reach out to you.
Real goa is not mentioned here. 80 % men die early due to alchoholism. After crossing age of 45. Women's are plenty and stays longer. Just peep into every village. Secondly we goans fight with one another for silly reasons while goans support every non goans and their illegal activities. Crimes and murders occurred right during Portuguese times and later on mulplied in 100 folds.
Save Goa. The Mountains are sacred and the rivers pour blessings. Sell the land to Delhiwalas and one fine day Goa will be cursed. Goans will be cursed. Its happening thanks to our beloved Greedy CM Bhiupa Garaz Na. Who will STOP it. Uth Goenkara Uth.
Visiting places like Goa, should be treated like visiting a God's temple. Remove your footware that you use outside, and enter. Shed off your outer influences, position, pride, ego... and surrender to the almighty. Don't demand or ask, but accept what is offered. Be prepared to wait. I am a Goikar by my ancestral, but born and brought up in Mumbai. But now, as I am getting older, the Goa in my blood has started pulling me back to my soil.
