  • Alex Carpenter & Cristina Silva Toledo came to India in 2015 with a budding dream of living a life close to nature & also help conserving and restoring forests & wildlife habitats.
After meeting people resonating with the same dream in Goa, the couple along with a few friends soon went on to lease out an abandoned cashew plantation in Agonda with the intention of living off-the-grid in the most eco-friendly manner possible.
The result was ‘The Tribe Goa’, an off-grid eco-village that catered to tourists that wanted to experience the bliss of living in nature and also focused on community living based on sharing, restoring natural habitats & reforesting degraded areas in and around their property.
From working with the Forest Department & rescuing wildlife to restoring forests & ecosystems these guys have a truly inspiring story to tell!

Im completely in sync with them , in 2016 my wife and I left our corporate jobs after nearly two and a half decades in Gurgaon and bought some land near Mussoorie ( We love the mountains) and set up our own small world here completely encosed in the woods with a brook at a hearing distance , we are learning how to coexist with the forest , produce most of our own food, rear our own turkeys, geese, hense , bees, cows and Dogs ... To sustain ourselves we let out a few rooms to people who want to get away from it all ... its important for all of us to understand that we cannot just keep taking from Mother earth . Kudos to the two of them ...

thank you for taking the initiative in our little Goa. sadly, i think projects like these will not come to much fruition in Goa (I hope I am wrong), I say this because knowing the Gov in Goa and the local land grabbing mafias (MLA's) will not let the good things like this prevail. The people who come to power are grabbing all possible land for their own commercial gain, mainly building row bunglows, apartments, shops, petrol pumps etc. Naturally formed water holes are being covered for buildings. The genuine people who want Goa to remain what it was 20-30 years back are fighting a loosing battle. Sorry to point out the reality on this positive video.

Wow! This is so wonderful. I turned 73 years old on the 17th of April. I was a Peace corps volunteer in South India near Kumbakonam in the state of Tamil Nadu back in the early '70s. I was in an agricultural extension program. Of course we promoted new and higher yielding varieties of food crops and also the use of chemicals. My god! If I only knew then what I know now, what a difference that would have made. I have traveled back to India a few times since then to visit my host family in the village. Depending on world situations and travel I have a hope of visiting another time coming in the fall of 2022. I would love to stop by and visit your village. Blessings, love, and peace, and health to all of you. I do pretty much the same thing here on my little mountain farm in East Tennessee. 90% of what I consume I produce on my own farm. And it is only me with no other humans for support or help. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful video. I do want to add, that the experience I gained living 2 years in South India was incredible. I received much more love and knowledge than I ever gave. That 2 years with such incredible beautiful people has impacted my life more than anything in all these years.

The irony of Goa is that those outsiders, especially the new Indian holidayers, want to enjoy nature in Goa, but from a luxury AC apartment window. The type of construction is a tell tale of where Goa is headed. If it wasn't for the city folk and national politics coming into Goa, the place would (as it was and still is in many parts) naturesque. It is the modern day ostensibly woke and conscious crowd that is fucking up the place. See the results of massive influx of Indian travellers to Goa since the pandemic. It's a rapid downhill development.

We need to develope more beches in different cities to reduce burden in Goa. But many foreigners from Ukrainine like country come here and do prostitution type works. Beer bottle, parties are destroying Goa environment.

Tourism contributes to 18-20% of Goa's GDP. Remember that before blabbering nonsense. Population continues to rise in India, but India's landmass is not increasing is it? This means it is inevitable for forest spaces to shrink. And you talk as if local Goans have been living like jungle tribes, never seen an AC in their life. Industrial development is required to lift people out of poverty; may not sound like a priority for someone like u, but that is India's first priority at the moment. The lady in the video knows what money means to them. Listen to her...
