Hey man, thank for putting this up it's good info to have! I have a thought and a tip for this if you'd like. I think that the diff took the extra oil because the car was rolled to the left moving the fill port on the right hand side higher up than it would be if level to the ground. I think the differentials and gearboxes are calibrated to be filled when level. Also, if you break loose but leave the fill plugs in their home you can effectively throttle the airflow into the diff or gearbox. They'll want to breath to release the oil and restricting the airflow back in makes the draining process a little easier to control. A similar thing works with the engine oil dipstick tube, but there are other ways for air to get into the crankcase to help the oil get out.
I am not too sure as I haven't done a change on the wrx. I would go with the same oil, but the washers and such may be different. Sorry I couldn't offer any help.
My local tuner shop used motul 75w140 for my transmission and diff. They said it would be better for the 5 speed on my 07Wrx. Just curious what your thoughts are on this? Great video!
Using a thicker gear oil in your trans , and diff , will definitely give you greater protection under load . But just keep in mind with thicker oil you are increasing the hydro dynamics in the trans and diff , which may affect fuel economy .
Did you lift the front to just to drain out more old oil? Thanks for the tip of the drain bold, didn’t know it fit the oil pan to! How much did it cost?
Being that I was able to get more than 1L into the diff, it was a good sign that the diff was pretty much empty, so there was no need to jack the front up to drain more. As you can see, the drain bolt is offset to the left of the diff, which in my logic, helped drain it much better than lifting the entire rear end. If I found I didn't get enough fluid out, I would have tried a different approach, but was confident it drained nearly all of the oil. Link is in the description for everything (include the drain plug) which has all the costs associated with this project.
@@Autofreakgarage I was thinking, does the magnetic bold give you any benefits to use it in the engine oil pan? Subaru didn't install them, yes they do in your tranny but your tranny doesn't have an oil filter.
@@Autofreakgarage But that's why they invented the oil filter right? If it was really that important Subaru had installed a magnetic plug form factory just like they did on the transmission.
Great video as always. For the record, the tightening torque listed in the manual is 60 N*m/44.3 ft-lb.
Thanks for the tip! Yeah I saw a lot of different torque specs all over the place but felt comfortable at the 35.
Finally someone makes a decent video on how to do this. Thank you!
That is one of the sharpest sti’s I’ve seen, it’s so sharp last week I bought a 2021 sti the same color 😁👍
Thanks for all the info and tips 👍
Thanks and congrats to you! Enjoy in good health.

Great vid! Super clean!
Strong chance you put extra fluid in because the diff was not level when filling.
Looking forward to your next vid on the transmission fluid change. Going to knock out my rear and trans at one shot then.
Love your setup. just picked up a 2018 a month ago. cannot wait to start modding it.
Phenomenal video, thanks for sharing!! Going to do mine this weekend and I was super paranoid to destroy the temp sensor.....
Oem Subaru magnetic bolt ? Where is the link brother
Got ready to do this, ordered through the gasket link and then realized the link is for the trans gasket lol fml
Perfect video! Thank you
Made me check the last time i did mine. Been 32k so its time, good vid.
Thanks for both these vids! Just what I was looking to get done next. Is it the same oil and washers for the WRX?
I am not too sure as I haven't done a change on the wrx. I would go with the same oil, but the washers and such may be different. Sorry I couldn't offer any help.
Awesome vid man, always appreciate the info that you put in your videos
Looks more like a drain and fill then a flush? The reason for the greater amount of lube is do to the angle of the car on a single stand?
alternative option for motul gear 300? I can't find any in stock.
great video by the way!
I found some on eBay for a decent price
Redline 75w-90 gear oil for the rear and redline 75w-90ns for the front
ทำไปเรื่อยอ่ะ อยากมีอะไรแบบนี้มั่งจังโว้ยยยย
Hi , I love your wheels, can I have specs and model and the offset you have and tire model Please 🙏🏻 thank you

So you need 5L for the transmission and rear diff? Is there anything else I should change around this mileage?

I’m more familiar with the 6spd so I’m not sure. The wrx trannys are a bit more fragile so having a thicker weight could help prolong the life.

@@rollymignacca4821 Thanks for the info! I'm happy losing some mpg's if I can keep my 5 speed in once piece!
@@rollymignacca4821 I want to say I got around 22 mpg on a highway trip
@@Mrhiddendeath You are welcome , sir .
I am changing my rear diff and front diff/ transmission fluid and was wondering if the fluid needs to be warm to replace like an oil change?
Warming up a bit will help it flow out easier. I wouldn’t get it to full operating temp, but maybe a few minutes around the neighborhood.
Great video

@@Autofreakgarage I was thinking, does the magnetic bold give you any benefits to use it in the engine oil pan? Subaru didn't install them, yes they do in your tranny but your tranny doesn't have an oil filter.
Yes. Any metal containment’s that may fall into the pan catches on the magnet. Which can potentially save the motor in the long run.

Hey dude, where did you get the carbon sti trunk trim? The section that houses the licence plate lights.
That is an OEM Subaru part. You can buy it directly from Subaru.
That 24 inch deep socket an impact one or standard six point??
Impact
@@Autofreakgarage thank you, bro
Do you mind if I ask where u got the sti trunk badge? I been looking everywhere for a black sti trunk badge.

What torque wrench are you using? I've been needing a better one
It’s an old craftsman that I’ve had for years.

Why you didn’t use the Motul 75W90 for diff?
What? I did.

For the 24mm do you happen to know if an impact socket would be too thick for the groove?
Depends on the socket, but worth a shot.
@@Autofreakgarage got you, I have regular Tekton impact short and long sockets
