Im a little late to this video. But since i found this channel i have been binge watching all the videos. One thing i want to add in case anyone watches this to do their brakes in the future… Once you have the front tires set and the rear in the air, release the e-brake so the brake shoes go back in. It will help with removing the old rotor and putting on the new one.
Awesome vid! Thanks for educating those on how unnecessary drilled rotors are. You have an awesome way of explaining things. We learn as we go, your car looks sick brah...keep it up
I'm really late when it comes to commenting to this, but drilled rotors are necessarily unnecessary. There is a reason why super cars and hypercars rock them. The cracks developing in the rotors that Tanner mentioned are normal and have no effect on breaking long term as the cracks are just surface level. Also rotors come in different compositions as well. The rotors Tanner put on his car are steel rotors. Once you start tapping into carbon, carbon ceramic, or titanium rotors, you will start seeing an increase in performance. But most people will need either steel or carbon ceramic brakes. Carbon or titanium brakes will only be necessary if you're planning on using your car for track days as those two compositions generally require greater heat to actually start working better.
Funny. I chose the same for my sti a few months ago. We obviously have similar taste. Which is expensive but reliable. Also changed to stainless steel brake lines while I was at it. Good time to do it if you all are switching out rotors and pads!
@@Smeedia Old vid, but just mentioning that for 2006 the STI caliper bolts are shown as 155 N-M, 114.3 ft-lb, this is from factory manual. Also, no mention of slider pins lubrication?

Great video!!! 👍👍👍👍 When talking about left and right on a car, it is based on sitting in the driver's seat. So left is drivers side, right is passenger side. Heli-coils SUCK!!!! I would rather spend the money to replace the part than do heli-coils. Also when taking the rotors off, use 2 bolts, one for each hole. Tighten one a bit, then the other one a bit. And keep doing that and it should work its self loose. Only using one bolt, you run the risk of bending a wheel stud or warping the hub surface. Don't put lock tite on the caliper bolts. It is completely un necessary. Anti-sieze only.
Yes, anti sieze only! And started 1 bolt then went to 2, thr center of the disk was sooooo rusted to the hub, everyone thinks thr ebrake was up but I prpmise it was down lol

Thank you 🙏🙏🙏
On amazon it says the rotors will not fit my 2015 wrx, any reason why?
Hi, im new here and i was wondering: did you paint the caliper ou you got another color (if yes i would like to know where did you get those ?)
No I have not, these are the normal calipers. You can get caliper paint but I would suggest powder coating
Thanks dude ! Keep you hard work, your cars are amazing 👌
Quick question. Is this the same process for 18+ brz with stock pp brembos ? Thanks !
Yessir 🙏🙏🙏
Anyone know where to buy the front left rotor for WRX these days? Its sold out everywhere ive seen.
Hey tanner Does either brake pad set last longer then the other or just depends, for a daily driver?
Primarily will depend on how you drive
Smeedia ahh figured, I just ordered the stoptech slotted with sport pads 🤙🏼 thx for the vid
Will these work on a 2020 sti? The confirm fit thing on Amazon said no. But then again they also said it didn’t fit on your car 😂
Unfortunately no, they're for 05-2017 😭
@@Smeedia ahh okay that sucks haha.
Link for hood vents?
2017 and prior right?
Correct 🙏
I'm looking to upgrade the brakes on my 2015 STI. Its stock HP and a daily driver. Would you recommend Hawk HPS 5.0 pads, Stoptech Slotted rotors and Stoptech Steel Braided Brake Lines?
I would use stoptechs street pads with standard centric rotors and SS lines. For normal power levels and just daily driving no need to go all out
@@Smeedia First off, thank you for the quick response! I appreciate you trying to save me some money, but I will be doing a minimum of a stage 1 at some point and I need new brakes so I might as well. Have you used DBA rotors? I was curious how they compare to Stoptech?
LOVE DBA! Pretty pricey but well worth the money. Stop tech has always been my go to for price
@@Smeedia Alright cool because 1 of the Subaru vendors quoted me $493.50 for all 4 Stoptech Slotted but pushed the DBA Street Series T2 Slotted for $531.75, so roughly only a $40 difference. Maybe I'll give those a try then
Sorry to bother you again, just trying to decide on which SS lines. Have you used Stoptech, Power Stop or Goodridge? If so, which would you recommend?
When you put a better brake kit the abs works fine?
Yessir 😁
I have seen some good rotors at geobrakes.com not sure what kind of you want but they have got some good selection of heavy duty drilled and slotted ones
Slotted rotors. Because race car!
😈😈😈😈
You still running stock brake fluid and lines?
SS lines with stock fluid for now
Cool. Just curious. I know when I used to track my 06 sti quite frequently the upgrade from stock fluid to motul rbf 600 was night and day when it came to brake fade after a few laps. Anyways. Enjoying your build.
Oooof indeed 🤣
Another one 🔥
😁😁😁
No peel back ‘ that’s what she said. 😎
🤣🤣🤣
This pads work for 2004 sti Brembo brakes ?
Yes 🙏 04-17 are same same
@@Smeedia can i use hawk hp plus with this stoptech rotors ? Thanks for all man greetings from Chile love all the content.
Yes you can 🙏😁
what bolt size you used to pop the rotor out?
The brake line bolt that holds the line to the strut
What size bolt to get out the rotor? No one is telling me and whenever i search it, it doesnt say what mm to use
It was just a random bolt out of my bolt box, not sure on what the thread pitch is but I wanna say it was an M8 bolt
@@Smeedia Ok cool thanks for replying. I bought a couple m8 at lowes gonna try them out
Did u push down the e-brake? Lol
Ebrake was all the way down lol
My OEM rotors lasted 80k
Also varies on driving style. I do alot of aggresive mountain driving and started killing mine pretty quick
Pretty sure that saying is “Get two birds stoned” 🤷🏻♂️
Haha same same 😂😂
I thought this was a wrap station #bringbackthewrap
More coming soon 😅
Dude your rotors are facing the wrong way. The lines should be pointing backwards for drilled/slotted rotors and not flaring forward.
