  • For the 1st time in over 25 years im changing my driver shaft flex from Stiff flex to Regular flex in my driver.
In this golf vlog I explain by knowing your clubhead speed you can identify what shaft flex is right for your driver.
Having the right shaft flex in your golf club is so important to maximise performance whether it be senior, regular, stiff or xtra stiff shaft flex.
I have been a low handicap golfer for over 30 years.
Re energised after turning 50 for seniors golf.

Good video. Fits into my current undertakings. I am 58 y and have ramped up my game since 2021, starting at 36 HCP and am now steadily breaking 90 and trending towards breaking 85. My goal is to break 80 and stay there. I have now an average club speed of about 93 mph and ball speed of 138 - 145 mph. Oddly enough, the stealth driver I bought earlier this year was sold to me with the Kai Li 60s and I now realize why I keep cutting everything right. Even after correcting my slice I regularily get 30y right hits right off the tee. And I want to confront my golf shop seller, who claims to be a fitter, as to why he "fitted" me with this 60s shaft. My previous driver was the maverik with a 55 R shaft and I never had any cutting problems.

Some serious improvement there Oliver. My dispersion improved massively once I switched to a regular shaft, fitters were still trying to convince me I was a stiff shaft but I could just feel the regular felt better and easier to hit.

@@ScratchAt50 I just returned from the shop and they made me hit some balls and I averaged out at 96 mph. He told me the stiff shaft was correct. Then I asked to try out a regular shaft Aldila with less weight and it did feel somehow better and I thought the shots were straighter. This may also have been the lighter weight, idk. He was however absolutely sure that with a speed of 96 mph I should play a stiff shaft.

@@oliveradami199 well your right on the threshold for both so a stiff Shaft could be right 👍
      See how it goes..

I bought used Ventus Velocore 6S for my TSi3 recently. I'm about 150-155 ball speed with it usually. So glad I didn't jump for the 6X as they are more available, because the 6S feels great. 6S feels quite stiff, which means I think I dodged a bullet by not buying impatiently and going for the 6X.

      Thanks for the comment Paul.
You can just feel when it's right can't you. 👍

I need to check my swing speed again. Was measured at a Wilson research center some 15 years ago at 120mph and always used a stiff shaft. Extra stiff felt like a 2x4!
I'm sure I'm between 110-115 now but should be tested. Stiff still feels fine but that shaft flex in regular sometimes feels better.

      Hi Bill
I was a bit shocked when it was suggested I should try a regular Shaft but it was the best thing I've done recently for my game. My driving became way more consistent and I don't lose as many drives to the right now.

I'm kinda strange with my game. Sometimes I play a draw and sometimes a fade. Typically I draw irons but feel more comfortable fading a driver. I got a Ping 450 LST and have to have the weight toward fade side and height decreased on a 10° to keep from excessively drawing it...? Strange.

As each producers have his own evaluation of regular or stiff, it’s often difficult to make the right choice without testing and evaluate.
For example, I buy a Tour AD DI 6 SR (stiff regular) for a swingspeed 92/100, it’s what this brand préconise and it’s seems to be good, but I think I have got chance with this one.

I agree, its more of a guide for people buying 2nd hand drivers who can't get a fitting for the driver they are buying.

Another brilliant vlog Craig , I must stop watching about 10 in a row on catch up lol ,
I'm exactly the same as you I'm in my 50s play off scratch and swing speed is 96 mph , I went to my fitter we went through a load of shafts , I was going to go to Regular , but we tried a 46 gram stiff shaft that gave me 4 mph extra speed with a little bit more control over the regular shaft , but hey we r lucky we have good shaft fitters ... brilliant vlog again and last comment today I promise lol lol .... Ha.. Appreciate the support.. I fought it for a while but I'm at ease with having a regular Shaft in my driver now.. Swing it easy instead of trying to get that clubhead speed up with the stiff Shaft..

Stiff to regular. Thanks for excluding a huge group of older players here.

Did you have to make any kind of adjustment in your swing? I'm making the move from an old Ping G25 with regular shaft to a Ping G410 with a senior shaft. Swing speed with regular shaft about 75 mph give or take. I'm finding my bad swings seem to have more exaggerated results with this newer, lighter and more flexible club. But I hit it farther on good swings. Tom Wishon has said if you err, err on the side of a more flexible shaft. But I am frustrated with greater inconsistency

No not really to be honest.
Feel I can concentrate on just good rhythm to still get good results.
