    Just had a baby ficus clone die on me and upon autopsy I found a death plug so safe to say over here there is no controversy only regret I didn't find it before hand 😭 I was able to cut off the top and salvaged the literal 2 inch baby tree top 🤞 hopefully she has it in her to send out some roots!

    I think there's a death plug in my new philodendron baby... Some of the small leaves at the bottom are turning yellow. But I just got it and I'm afraid to repot it right now. Cuz everybody says wait! What 2 do? What 2 do?😮

    • @ohtheplacesyoullgrow
      @ohtheplacesyoullgrow  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Older leaves yellowing is very common and not always a cause for concern. It’s just part of the plant’s natural life cycle. If you notice yellowing on multiple leaves, that’s more of a concern. Sometimes I do immediately repot new plants, but only if I suspect something is wrong with the plant (like the soil looks waterlogged, or I suspect root rot). If everything else looks fine, I would just wait and let the plant settle and acclimate to its new home before digging around 🥰

      Yes it does! It helps roots absorb nutrients and it rehydrates moss. It also helps keep away pests on leaves if you spray it. I love it. The one I use is from here: biosnutrients.ca/discount/MICHELLE20 (MICHELLE20 will get you a discount)

      It’s a mesh casing used to grow seeds and propagations in. It’s supposed to breakdown over time, but sometimes doesn’t and ends up causing water to get trapped and rot the roots

    out of curiosity, how many death plugs will a plant usually have? I just repotted my baby MTC the other day and I removed the outermost death plug that I could find (I didnt bother with the soil that it had come in. didnt want to bug it's roots too much). not sure if all plants have more than one, but I suppose it really depends. would it still be worth checking to? I only up-potted the other day when I had removed the death plug. im just not so sure if it would cause harm to the plant if I were to just take it out of its pot, fresh after up-potting, and sift through its roots then determine if it has another one or not. It looks fine so far, the biggest leave has perked up a whole lot since it arrived in the mail day a few days ago, but would this still be something I should check into asap? or would saving it for another would be the best route to take?

    • @ohtheplacesyoullgrow
      @ohtheplacesyoullgrow  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you found one death plug, it should be fine unless there are multiple plants in the pot. If your plant is doing fine, I would probably leave it as is so it can acclimate and recover

I try to remove as much of the material as possible but dont go nuts trying to remove every single piece coz im terrified of damaging the roots too much 😅

    I just brought home a neon pothos that was soaked in water & I was going to wait to repot it but it was so soaked it wasn’t drying out at all so I did repot it & it had horrible root rot so I saved what I could, do you think that repotting so soon was a a terrible shock to the plant and it prob won’t survive or when it’s in those conditions is it okay to repot with a lot of extra tlc to help it recover from the shock?

    • @ohtheplacesyoullgrow

      It’s a mesh casing that growers use to grow seedlings because it provides optimal growing conditions for young plants. It’s supposed to break down over time as the plant grows, but sometimes it doesn’t and can cause water-log inside the mesh casing.
