If you put the cuttings in water in a clear glass or plastic container and then put the container on a sunny windowsill, the cuttings will grow roots. Each rooted cutting could then be planted, giving you more basil plants throughout your growing season.
I did that last year and with the pieces I cutted, and put in water to propagate. Basil took over my apartment and I could barely get inside my apartment 😅 I ran out of ideas where to put it when cooking, I started putting basil in everything even tea, I even froze some and gave some to my neighbors. I hope my neighbors are doing alright
If there is enough root mass and the stems are healthy, along with there being some soil space with proper nutrients, the basil plant can indeed come back in full with leaves and even flower if you've done a complete harvest. (Taking all leaves from stem.) I can prove this as well if need be. Plants want to survive, so given proper conditions, these amazing beings will surely surprise you. Awesome video. Otherwise, everything is spot on brother.
my daughter just plucked off leaves last evening for some pasta, ive told her to trim the top instead many times. i will tell her again asap. knowledge is key here... Thanks, i will remind her!
I'd like to see a video of taking care of our garden equipment: clean non rusty scissors, sanitizing those plastic containers plants come in so you can re use them, cleaning minerals and algae and fungi/mold from things like Terra Cotta and watering cans, when hand soap or vinegar is fine and when you should use something stronger like a bleach or isopropyl alcohol solution, etc. I greatly enjoy your videos and have referred back to your channel quite a few times (I have a feeling this will be another such vid), so a Sheffield special on such subjects would be delightful! 🤩 Thanks for your help, keep up the good work! 👍
I have basil thriving in my garden and I appreciate the tips. It’s my first time growing it. I lopped the head off a jade per your video on that, and it’s already growing a new leaf. Thanks!
If the basil plant is getting tall take a harvest and freeze on a tray in the freezer, then bag up when frozen so you can have basil in the winter months too.
Hi Mr. Sheffield! I'm from Malaysia and I just wanted to say you've successfully turned me into a crazy plant lady in my 20s. 🤣 I used to (accidentally) kill almost every one of my plants, but safe to say your vids educated me enough to spare my babies and now they're flourishing! Seriously thanks a bunch. Keep making them vids and I'll keep binging them as I try not to overwater my plants 🤣
As always very informative video. You do have a green thumb clearly.. I wonder if all this applies to other herbs too. I picked an oregano plant from the garden center this summer. I’ve no clue why it died. Every time I repot something it just dies. I tried to attend to it for a few weeks.. but the leaves all dried up and they smelled incredible but eventually it looked like they all burned down. Sadly I feel most garden centres grow weak plants who can only survive in green houses and when you bring them outside they just die.
I followed your other video on growing Basil from shop bought and it worked a treat. My Basil has to flowered and is in a large, ish pot outside. Can I harvest it as you say in this video and can I use the flowers in my sauces? will my basil eventually die or can I save it over winter? Cheers. Steve. C.
I resolved her error by trimming as you instruct, and i repeated the proper way to harvest the basil. ~~ my rosemary isnt growing tho. WT#? i understand some varieties are slow growers... could you do a vid on rosemary, Mr Richard? im sure im not the only one. (i trimmed it back so it would get fuller, its healthy looking but not growing taller fast enough for me).
Rosemary as an indoor plant from seed NEVER seems to thrive. Instead of the bushy things I see in pictures, I have perhaps three skinny, spindly stems that never get past 2-3 sets of leaves. If I prune at all to try to encourage new growth, it just stops growing altogether.
I love watching your videos, what is your take on self watering pots, I've seen an Easy Plant store on line with plants in self watering pots. I thought the soil was supposed to dry out before watering. Worried some plants could get root rot from the soil being constantly moist. What are your thoughts? Have you ever done a blog on this subject?
Hey, great information. I just passed one buy in the grocery store yesterday morning . lol. No need for that one. Rich, have you ever done a video on animal safe plants? Peace.
Great video! But I’ve grown enough cannabis to know this. 😅 Best of luck new Gardners, don’t be afraid to trim your plants! They’re tougher than you think!
Mr Sheffield, I am tempted to buy the water meter that you promote on Amazon. I have many succulents as well as other plants. How do I know that it will differentiate between the water requirements????
It's situational. Bottom water in shallow pots/containers like with seedlings are a great practice. Surely lean towards this method if possible to reduce the plant having washing and losing nutrients from soil with top water method. Also, bottom watering significantly reduces risk of moisture/fungus gnats as well as mold that is prone to form on most soil types. I usually top water but not fully drench newly planted or replanted/up planted dry soil. Then from there after soil is mostly dry I then just continue to bottom water to promote downward root growth. There are many other externalities but these are the most crucial in most use cases. Good luck 👍 cheers.
92 year old Japanese man here, I have 6 aero gardens in my home and they are GOOD~ Some for herb some for vegetable and peppers and also some for flowers~ I use very good water and plant nutrients for the little palpijis ❤
😂 I thought everyone harvested by using the cut method. You can also root some of those cuttings ( leave a couple leaves on top) and voila, even more Basil.
Another video that is helpful to me. You dont happen to have a video about how to harvest thyme and basil the right way? My plants have grown really fat in the rainy weather and are definitely ready for harvest and cooking some nice chicken with rosemarry😋🪴💦
I am a 92 year old Japanese man and your plant show is my favorite from the west! Big fan from Japan keep it up
Wow thanks
Mr-Jiki happy life happy gardening

@mike20451 I'm at the same point. I need some more ideas for how to use it.

This advice is actually very smart! I’ve been doing it “the wrong way” and am going to mend my ways now! Thank you, Richard!

I've been growing basil in my home for a year. It's 10 times the size of yours. It's fantastic

You bet!

Thank you. I've had basil for a while now and ive been wondering how to help it improve
Thankyou for helping me with my basil , this was a big help.
I am loving these herb care tips. Are you going to discuss other herbs in the future?
Maybe see how it goes

Great stuff 👍
Well done. Very informative and easy to follow with your show and tell demonstration. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching 😁
Thank You for your share. Basil is one of my very favorites. I appreciate your advice😊
You're good people

It’ll apply to all herbs
Mr Sheffield. What’s your views on feeding plants with them drip n feed bottles please
Never tried it. Shouldn’t be a problem

Once it flowers it's coming to end of it's life. Not sure if you can eat the flowers
@@SheffieldMadePlantsaccording to many varied sources on the internet, they are edible 😅

Very much appreciate your channel from Canada 🇨🇦
Cheers!
Thanks
I always get beetles eating my basil. What can I do to keep them away?
Thanks for the tips, love my basil and this information will definitely help😉🙌
My pleasure 😊
Thanks for all your helpful information, you are a blessing to my plants lives.
That was why my basil always ended up dying!!!!!

Most is ok. Wet isn’t. They’re fine
Thank you Mister Sheffers : )
Days are getting shorter soo quick these days...,happy festivus in the solstice from n.america
Wow what was the pinkish colour plant on the windowsill
Coleus
Don't forget to pinch off the flowers when the plant starts to mature!
Hey, great information. I just passed one buy in the grocery store yesterday morning . lol. No need for that one. Rich, have you ever done a video on animal safe plants? Peace.
Nope not yet
Tq for the useful information
Great video! But I’ve grown enough cannabis to know this. 😅 Best of luck new Gardners, don’t be afraid to trim your plants! They’re tougher than you think!
I am heading outside quick like to work on my basil. And my mint. :-)
Oh no, you have mint outside?! Hopefully not next to any soil! That stuff grows worse than most weeds!
Mr Sheffield, I am tempted to buy the water meter that you promote on Amazon. I have many succulents as well as other plants. How do I know that it will differentiate between the water requirements????
It won’t you will need to do that
So when do you know when to bottom feed plants and when to completely bathe them?
It's situational. Bottom water in shallow pots/containers like with seedlings are a great practice. I use very good water and plant nutrients for the little palpijis ❤
Never tried it 🤷🏻♂️
MUY DIVERTIDOS TUS VIDEOS
Thanks!
I was just wondering 😮
😂 I thought everyone harvested by using the cut method.
You can also root some of those cuttings ( leave a couple leaves on top) and voila, even more Basil.
Wish I had of seen this before I threw mine in the bin 😢
Honestly your my favourite TH-camr for plants 1million% lol
had its limbs amputated lol
Don't tell me what to do.
😂😂😂😂💀

It’ll be the same way as in this. Not got a specific video
Hey mate. Adam here from Sheffield. I’d like to contract you about a few things but can’t find your details. Where can I email you?
It’s in my bio on desktop
Basil seeds have been awaiting planting for more than one month... 🥱
