      Hey Mr Sheff here's a great plant dust hack for you. I use a fluffy duster with a long pole, that way the tallest plant tops can be dusted too. The leaves shine an the plants absolutely love it, I do it several times a week. They perk up everytime. Happy Planting.

    Aquarium water conditioner, if it’s a good brand, does two things to water: It removes chorine, and it breaks down chloramine and ammonia into available nitrogen. Both these things are good for plants.

    I agree that misting is useless for humidity, but it can work wonders to free leaves that get stuck when unfurling. I've saved quite a few of my Melanochrysum leaves by misting them when they got stuck in the stem.

    I live in the Pacific Northwest. I was afraid of sun burning my snake plants. All that did was make my plants leggy and slow growing. I put them in a south facing window and they are growing at a steady pace.
    Fish tank water has been a game changer. I'll never need to buy fertilizer again. Even for cactus and succulents it's great.

      I live there, too, after living in Southern California for decades. Our house, near Seattle, has very wide eaves and is surrounded by Douglas firs, so virtually no natural light is available, especially in winter. Mr. Sheffield's lament about dark and rainy days fits the climate here perfectly, and I've found that his advice is the most applicable to my situation of anyone I've watched. Best tip: grow lights! I have them everywhere and I, too, wonder what the neighbors think we have going on.

    Personally, I've found that a philodendron and arrow plant I have had a significantly easier time unfurling their leaves after I started misting them every day. Misting doesn't help with humidity per say, but certain plants' leaves need some extra moisture to thrive.

    I have a "surviving" calathea. She would grow a leaf and as that leaf starts to die, a new leaf grows alongside. So on average, I have a leaf and a half. Lol... I do use stress coat as I have lots of aquariums. I also tried giving it milk as I saw that in another video. It did quite help. You are so true, these challenging clatheas are very high maintenance.

    What ive learned growing Monstera's indoors that it is very beneficial to spray the leaves every week or two. I noticed that it helps growing new leaves. I think this is due to the fact that indoors the leaves of the plant wil collect dust and grees that is naturally in the air indoors in any house. You wil notice that when you spray of the Monstera's ( i do this outside ) there leaves whil shine alot more, and the new leaves wil grow faster. Just a free tip from a happy grower. Greetings

    Great video!! Can you tell me what plant that is at time stamp 8:59?? It looks like your Elgergrass but it's all bright green, no purple? I found that light for me made the biggest impact. I did order 2 separate Sansi grow lights but I am not really a fan. They are EXTREMELY Hot! I burned myself trying to set them up! I am afraid to leave these on in my bedroom with no one around all day. I tried to return them but the shipping was cost prohibitive. I might try and sell them on FB marketplace. I found Barrina's to do the trick for me. I can touch and move them even when they have been on all day. With a new grandbaby on the way I need them to be safe. Thanks for all your amazing videos! they are so much fun.

    I am so happy to find your channel. I’ve had houseplants my whole life, but married, moved to a colder climate & wasn’t having much luck. Finally started seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and was thinking of trying new ones. However, for the 2nd year in a row, I went to help my mother & was gone for a month. The 1st year, I came home to beautiful plants. Last year I came home to dead plants, including my Grandmother’s Christmas Cactus. I’m 68 so that may give you an idea of how old it was. My husband swears he did what he did the year before 🤔. Now I’m leaving again for mother’s and am terrified about what I may come home to. I went to Amazon and got your water meter & the API Stress Coat, game changer! Love them both! I have shown my husband and I’m still nervous as to what I’ll come home to. Love, love, love your channel. Thank you❤

    not a criticism. Of course if you uncurl your hose and leave it spread out in the sun, the water in it will heat up a bit. I recently sprayed the tops of a dirty plant with the kitchen sink sprayer.

    Did you find out if your begonias are one of the iridescent species? Someone’s selling a green/red one like yours for cheap near me, I’m thinking of buying one, if it is 🤔
    The way to check is basically take them into a pitch black room, like at night with all the lights off. Take some pics with flash from various angles. If you see shimmery color changes in the leaves(usually turquoise or navy blue) it’s an iridescent species you can make more shiny with proper light/conditions. I swear it’s the best kept secret in the plant world. If people knew you could call them “iridescent shimmer colour changing plants” they’d be charging £££££ for little foliage begonias!
    …ahhh who am I kidding, I’m gonna buy it anyway😅

    We got a Zebra Calathea and have no real issues. Use rain water and got it in a spot about 3/4 meters from a south facing window with a little more shade provided by our Monstera. It gets a little crispy on a leaf or two if it drys out quicker than I expected but otherwise it's doing grand and got a bunch of new growth coming through this year 🤙

    Does the moisture meter that you show in the video really work well? i read so many bad reviews on that meter and had some bad experiences with that specific meter myself.
    After doing some research i found out that there is also a meter from the brand Skyard, this one has many good reviews and i ordered 2! i also believe that the Skyard meter is the original one and the other ones are knock-offs.

    Why waste money on water conditioner? Just let tap water sit for 24-hours with plenty of air exposure and the chlorine levels will be far lower if not entirely free of chlorine. Another option is to boil it for 15-20 minutes and let it cool.

    • @SheffieldMadePlants
      @SheffieldMadePlants  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Look up chloramine

    • @MrSmith_
      @MrSmith_ 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@SheffieldMadePlants Indeed, you are right in some areas utility companies can use chlorine, chloramine, or a combination of both. It's worth checking with the local water company to verify which methods they employ to treat the water supply to ensure if it's necessary to buy water conditioner.
      Also, I apologise if my comment came across as snarky. I think it's important to let others know if something is necessary or not. I personally have had great success just filling a watering can with tap water and leaving it open to the air for 24 hours and using that to water my plants.
      Anyway, I'm waffling a bit now, but thanks for all that you do with your channel. It's great you are sharing your knowledge and experience with others.

    • @EarthBound_Spirit
      @EarthBound_Spirit 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Chlorine and or chloramine are not the only things in tap water plants don't like either.

    • @MrSmith_
      @MrSmith_ 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@EarthBound_Spirit My suggestion wasn't concrete advice for every situation. Of course, there are plants with specific needs and requirements. My main point was to spread knowledge that some people may, or may not, need to use a water conditioner since leaving tap water open to the air for 24-hours causes the chlorine in the water to evaporate. And rather than jumping head first into buying a water conditioner that some people may not need I thought it better to mention it.
      There are many minerals and micronutrients in tap water; however, it _does_ differ from place to place. What *is* important is that people do their research on suitability whether they _need_ to buy a water conditioner, or not.

    I agree that misting plants doesn’t affect the humidity much, unless you do it all day. But that takes all day, and also, everything in the house will get soaked. There are ways to boost indoor humidity, but you probably don’t want to do any of them, if you also have to live in the same room.

    If I may Mr. Sheffield, I bought a baby monstera last late summer & it’s happily growing. But, it’s really growing (6 leaves, I think, & appendages) I feel it’s time to replant. Two ?? When I repot, should I bury the appendages? I also bought a pot roughly 2.5 times bigger than its current one, I’ve watched you & it looks like they enjoy being root bound. I plan on buying a moss pole before I transplant, but I need your advice first. BTW, I ❤❤❤ your show, you are hilarious! Educational without being boring. Thank you.

      What’s appendages? Try not to bury the stems or petioles in soil cos that can cause rot issues. Keep the crown at the same level it is now. You’ll be fine though. Forgiving plants
