Ok. I need more of this. 2 Legendary rock gods. In their own element. Off the road. Speaking face to face. Bringing up old memories. I smiled the whole time.
Watching a video where two of the most influential artists in my life are just having a bit of fun, banter and mutual appreciation of each other is basically bringing me to tears. Lemme explain. Back in the early 90's I heard Thunderstruck, then saw the music video...and for the next 2 and a half decades I have devoured anything and everything AC/DC. Then, with the advent of interviews being posted on the internet, I had to find out that one of the biggest rockers in history, Brian Johnson, is not just a charming fellow, but also one helluva cool, nice guy. The kind of guy I would donate an organ to if he needed it. Not because I am starstruck, but because he is relatable and awesome. Then there's Mark Knopfler. The man that, with his band, recorded Sultans of Swing, Romeo and Juliet, etc...and...my father's favorite, Walk of Life. That last song was such a big part of my childhood years because my dad played it all the time. Once grown up and bought the Dire Straits albums for me and collected the vinyls. And my dad passed away in 2011. So every time I hear Mark's voice, I see my dad's face clearer than I have in years in my mind's eye. That is why this video is one the most beautiful things I have seen... ever.

Hey man, amazingly this is very similar to my story. I got into DS as a kid thanks to my dad, and not long after Thunderstruck took me into AC/DC and heavy rock realm. These were my first favourite bands. Seeing these guys together is a dream come true back from when I was 11.
@Guy Incognito Neither of them are "boomers", because neither of them are American. It's an American term about American generations. The experience of people in other countries of the same age group was totally different from the Yanks.
40 years old and this series has introduced me to someone who has been screaming in the car since I was in womb as a humble ,soft voiced man .Thanks for doing this Brian ,cheers from Vegas!
Never would I ever have thought I’d see these two singing Bernard Cribbins. What if they got together and did an album of North East music, wouldn’t it be amazing. Absolutely superb.
@@CH3825 Sting's too far up his own arse and always has been.. A mate of mine was in a well known punk band in the Police's early days and when they played together he asked to use his amp but called him "stink" (He tought his name was stink) and he refused to let him use it because he didn't get his name right... He was told to get fucked and the amp was used anyway lol
Being a Walker lad, I cycle past here every few days for a workout... I would have pissed my pants, fell of my bike and fell to my knees to begin worshipping rituals had I have seen these 2 lads on the front doing this. I'm gutted I didn't see this little dream get together!
Brian was like this before ACDC And has remained that way. Anyone who knew him back then when he was on the Working Mens' Clubs will tell you that. Amazing man.
Two of the best, great to see them together. Mark is a musical genius who in my opinion doesn’t get as much recognition as he should. Brian is a rock and roll legend.
I used to live a few doors away from Mark Knopfler. Most down to earth rock star you could ever meet. Doesn't say much. Him and Brian go way back, both Geordies.
Mark Knopfler is a hero to me... his songs are beautiful and thought provoking, lyrics are clever, witty and poignant and most importantly, he's kind... and Brian Johnson seems the same, with the rare talent of listening. I could watch this a hundred times and not get bored of watching them and hearing the music and tales. Thank you :)
I'm a bit younger than these two guys, and though it's been more than 15 years since I've been there the memories of Whitley Bay are just as strong, so many happy and carefree days spent at Whitley Bay, Cullercoats, the Spanish City, St. Mary's Lighthouse... Thanks for the vid Brian, you are the man!!
It is just fantastic to hear two musical icons without any pretention. Totally honest and 'in the moment'. No Hollywood glitz, just real people as they are.
2:10 --- If there was no cut, how calm and collected Knopfler reacts to see his lyrics paved on the ground, at the very spot that inspired the song. _"Good grief",_ he says, _"I had no idea."_ Meanwhile, as ordinary viewer from an irrelevant part of the planet, I break into tears. It might be Knopfler's personal geography, but that simple line ("girl, it looks so pretty to me" --might as well be "girl, you look so pretty to me") is universal and would take back anyone down the memory lane.
Two of my absolute heroes. How lucky am I to have grown up with these two and their bands as the soundtrack of my upbringing and my life. I could listen to them talk and tell stories for hours and days.
I was there just a few days ago, right where they’re stood. Amazing to be there, I thoroughly enjoyed visiting the place that was the inspiration for some of Mark’s songs.
mark knopfler is one of the all time great guitar players! the solo at the END of tunnel of love is best described as haunting! it never, i mean never, no matter how many times ive heard it fails to move me! the way it swells in and then picks up speed and volume and then reaches a fever pitch is just beyond words, and thank you brian for being one of the all time great vocalists and all around great guy!!! long life to you both!!!
My neck of the woods. I'm so proud to be from the North East of England. I have lots of childhood memories from right there at the Spanish City at Whitley Bay. This would of been the early-mid 80's when these two legends were flying high in their primes! My mother used to take me on bus trips there in the summer and we'd spend all day on the beach having Ice Cream and eating Fish n Chips.
Two lead singers from two of my favourite groups.Even though these guys are heard by millions on their records we very seldom see much about them outside of the music. This is neat to see.
OMG I'm a huge fan of Mark and have just came across this. Great to see him so relaxed and talking freely. Some of the lyrics of Tunnel of Love there... says it all 😊
This mini series with brian has been wonderful. Britain produced some outstanding rock n roll. I worry for the new generations. It all seems a bit lost now
Honestly musical career aside, I really like Brian as a presenter. Even if you're not really comfortable on camera, you hang with Brian a few minutes and you're good to go.
Tam moore No need to worry, next generation already up and running . check this Australian kids TH-cam channel "Taj Farrant" th-cam.com/video/q17ER-yee6M/w-d-xo.html Taj Farrant heard ACDC when he was 6.
As a lifelong AC/DC and Dire Straits fan I love this video. Knopfler can’t seem to keep his hands off Johnson and to see that easy affection between grown men warms my heart. I wonder if it’s because Mark’s a Geordie like Brian or because he’s a Hungarian like me?! At any rate, it’s a pleasure to watch.
Mark's family and heritage is Hungarian as you rightly say. Mark was born in Glasgow but spent most of his formative years growing up in Blyth in Northumberland. He considers himself a Geordie as do most of the Geordies! Although the Geordie accreditation stipulates that you have to be born adjacent to the Tyne etc I'm sure that family, love and passion for the area swipes you in. Mackums exempted! 😅
@@stevecockburn1993 My understanding is that his father was a Hungarian Jew and his mother was a Scotswoman. Brian Johnson on the other hand has Italian heritage on his mother's side. Both Geordies though, through and through!
This is so beautiful. I love watching those two legends, geniuses and "grandpas". :-) But sadly this is also very unique these days. Just watching two persons enjoying their life, their past, their heritage and respecting each other is so rare, that it made me cry. I know how easy it is to feel hatred these days. Idiocracy sadly is growing near... But real love is out there. And if anyone of you does not feel loved right now, please be sure that I love you. :-)
What a beautiful meeting of two legends sharing the rare ol times Truly lovley I'm embarrassed to say as an American who grew up in Ireland And the U.K. And a huge fan of both artist's and their respective bands and massive body of work I swear I didn't know Mark was from Newcastle I know Sting is ....but you would never know by his accent... But I've been listening to Mark before Dire Straits as he played on Phil Lynott's solo album track called king's call ...about Elvis Still cant believe I didn't know he was a Newcastle fellow..... You learn something new everyday
Wonderful. Wonderful. We need more shows like this one. Love what Brian is doing in these shows.... he is so loveable..... as if he needed to be more iconic. God bless all the great artists he has interviewed in these shows. Will watch them all.
I was never away from the Spanish city as a kid and I play Tunnel of Love Everytime I pass. Two fabulous musician's in this clip. The song is one of the best songs ever written, absolute genius

Just two normal guys having a chat about their childhood and stuff except they're not normal they're absolute legends. Great post!
From a fellow Geordie, Thank You for sharing that. You can take the men out of the North East, but you will never take the North East out of the men.
This video is proof that down-votes on TH-cam are utterly worthless. Thank you Brian for sharing these moments.
Woah.. love to see you in here Andrew. Love your channel (from Mel)
@Guy Incognito Neither of them are "boomers", because neither of them are American. It's an American term about American generations. The experience of people in other countries of the same age group was totally different from the Yanks.
The down-voters could be a load of guitar wannabes who never achieved anything.
@@antoniopodesta8738 Have you ever played guitar? why would anyone who plays / appreciates guitar downvote Mark Knopfler or AC/DC's singer?
@@jordanparker7407 I have no idea what you are talking about.
Get Sting to join them on a couple of songs too...
I come here more often now after seeing this video but Covids getting in the way and that so, no bike rides through Newcastle for me
Same here I would have love to met brian hes my hero amazing guy such down to earth person
Seeing them hug each over just brings a huge smile on my face😊
Brian was like this before ACDC And has remained that way. Anyone who knew him back then when he was on the Working Mens' Clubs will tell you that. Amazing man.
There is sooo Much love and spirit in Brian! Makes my day😃
Could watch these two all day n night. They never lost themselves in the pop world & always remembered their roots.Hats off boyzz. ❤️
Brian is just full of love for his mates. These videos are wonderful.
This warms my heart. I love both of these gentlemen.
Two of the best, great to see them together. Mark is a musical genius who in my opinion doesn’t get as much recognition as he should. Brian is a rock and roll legend.
AC/DC and Dire Straits. Yeah. That should work.... This is amazing!
So much heart. I would PAY to be on this camera crew.
i live 2 miles from this place where they shot this video...i am so sad i wasn't down at the beach at this time :)
We all need this in our lives now and forever Mr. Johnson , Please keep this going sir !
It is just fantastic to hear two musical icons without any pretention. Totally honest and 'in the moment'. No Hollywood glitz, just real people as they are.
I love ❤️ this channel. Is there a more positive guy than Mr. Johnson. Such a nice outpost in a depressive world. Thank you 🙏
Cullercoats resident here. love this and love you both. thanks for the memories and framing my youth with your brilliant music i loved it.
The joy of seeing these two Geordies hamming it up in my childhood stomping grounds. I have stood where they are countless times. Away the lads.
I finally got it, the Spanish city...and the pretty girl, thanks for showing this wonderful side of Mark and Brian, absolutely magical
I visited the Spanish city October 2020 to see the inscription and it is. a fine tribute to a brilliant song by a true legend
How amazing. Shows their humanity.
It's easy to see. They are truly having a great time.
A pair of genuine living legends and proper gentlemen. Class act.
such a heart warming watch. Two ol boys just chatting. Respect.
Two rock legends, super stars having a chat in a small seaside town in the UK. Just such inspirational, down to earth, blokes.
Brian seems like such a nice guy.
All reports say this ^^ is fact. People adore that guy. I've seen him thrice and Knopfler once in 1979.
Two of my absolute heroes. How lucky am I to have grown up with these two and their bands as the soundtrack of my upbringing and my life. I could listen to them talk and tell stories for hours and days.
Brian Johnson meeting up with other great guitarists in these really casual scenarios is the best content on TH-cam hands down.
I was there just a few days ago, right where they’re stood. Amazing to be there, I thoroughly enjoyed visiting the place that was the inspiration for some of Mark’s songs.
How can you not smile at this...
Two Geordie legends. This made me smile. Love Brian he is a true Geordie - funny as hell and so down to earth.
One of the funny things about Brian is, when you're on his wavelength with him, he just might hug you to death! hahaha!
Not a bad way to go.
I would not mind being hug by Bj
He is just that type of guy needs to show his affection by cuddling
mark knopfler is one of the all time great guitar players! the solo at the END of tunnel of love is best described as haunting! it never, i mean never, no matter how many times ive heard it fails to move me! the way it swells in and then picks up speed and volume and then reaches a fever pitch is just beyond words, and thank you brian for being one of the all time great vocalists and all around great guy!!! long life to you both!!!
It's good to know that hard rocking musicians like Brian Johnson actually likes Mark & Dire Straits, sounds like he very much respects Mark
This is the best thing on the internet. Thanks Brian. Great stuff.
Two lead singers from two of my favourite groups.Even though these guys are heard by millions on their records we very seldom see much about them outside of the music. This is neat to see.
Q: Which side of bed does Brian get out of every morning?
A: The right side.
Si many peeps" go back " to when they were age 7 ish , if they had good memories These two seem to be no exception🎶💙🤗
What a great interview. I've always wanted to hear Mark discuss this. And Brian is a GREAT interviewer - and a cool guy.
Brian Johnson is such a lovely man fame and fortune hasn't changed him one bit I just think he is so normal and someone nice
Two lovely genuine blokes, totally unspoiled by success.
Thanks for sharing Brian, keep up the great work and never lose that lust for life and grounded nature, made my day this, champion 😀
OMG I'm a huge fan of Mark and have just came across this. Great to see him so relaxed and talking freely. Some of the lyrics of Tunnel of Love there... says it all 😊
Es precioso verles a los dos ahí recordando y hablando.... Precioso 😍❤️
this is one of the coolest things i’ve seen in a long time, could watch much more of this!
This mini series with brian has been wonderful. Britain produced some outstanding rock n roll. I worry for the new generations. It all seems a bit lost now
Ac/dc last album was #1 in like 25 countries... lol
@@kentuckyjerk323 i was referring to new bands
There are some amazing young bands out there. Just not on the radio. Thank heavens for bandcamp, TH-cam etc.
Honestly musical career aside, I really like Brian as a presenter. Even if you're not really comfortable on camera, you hang with Brian a few minutes and you're good to go.
Tam moore
No need to worry, next generation already up and running . check this Australian kids TH-cam channel "Taj Farrant"
th-cam.com/video/q17ER-yee6M/w-d-xo.html
Taj Farrant heard ACDC when he was 6.
The Dire Straits-AC/DC collab we have all been waiting for!
Too much quality in a one video. Legends!!
But sadly this is also very unique these days.
What a beautiful meeting of two legends sharing the rare ol times
Truly lovley
I'm embarrassed to say as an American who grew up in Ireland
And the U.K.
And a huge fan of both artist's and their respective bands and massive body of work
I swear I didn't know Mark was from Newcastle
I know Sting is ....but you would never know by his accent...
But I've been listening to Mark before Dire Straits as he played on Phil Lynott's solo album track called king's call ...about Elvis
Still cant believe I didn't know he was a Newcastle fellow.....
You learn something new everyday
Wonderful. Wonderful. We need more shows like this one. Love what Brian is doing in these shows.... he is so loveable..... as if he needed to be more iconic. God bless all the
great artists he has interviewed in these shows. Will watch them all.
I was never away from the Spanish city as a kid and I play Tunnel of Love Everytime I pass. Two fabulous musician's in this clip.
The song is one of the best songs ever written, absolute genius
This right here, warms my heart! Two good souls, in music and personality.
This is just lovely, what great human beings.
“My brain is like a junkyard at the best of times”. Great quote, could be the title/lyric of a song. I wish they’d post the rest of this trip down memory lane. 💛
Tenho grande admiração pelo Mark e Brian. Mark Knopfler é o maior guitarrista que já conheci.
Imagine having a day at the seaside and bumping into these two. Pure legends
