Had back surgery last year and it's changed my ability to ride long distance for the worse. 2 hours and I have to pull over as it's getting spicy.

Well 2 hours is a pretty good run and you could argue its good for you to jump off and get some decent circulation - perhaps restore concentration

Thanks for this very entertaining and informative video! I got a great chuckle out of the unexpected way to make planks not so boring, your little buddy is too cool. Got to love how loyal and loving man's best friend is. The exercise advice is great and welcome in my book as well. It's easy to believe as I can clearly see that you personally practice what you preach. My son is doing weight training in high school and I'm going to show him this.

Ah yes, back issues. A pole vaulting injury to my back in high school has followed along the rest of my life. A few hours on the road and I have to stop and stretch or I risk a spasm that will impinge a nerve and make riding impossible. Strengthening my abdominal core muscles really helps. But I have a bad habit of doing exercises when I'm having problems and then forget about them when I'm well.
I appreciate your video -- just the reminder I needed today.

I rode 1800 miles on my Electra Glide in 5 days and developed acute medial epicondylitis in my right arm. It’s painful and you don’t want it. It’s from squeezing the grip too much for too long. When you do that the forearm muscles contract too much and you damage the tendon which attaches those muscles to the humerus at the inside of the elbow. Surgery may be required after 6 months if it does not improve..so..if you are riding long distances be aware this can happen. Take it easy!

The pain I tend to get now is in my knees and right foot since having a motorbike accident in 2018 and now have permanent nerve damage but like anything in life you just have to find what works for you.

My back was killing me on rides that were longer than 3 hours total on the bike. I ride a 2019 Heritage, I have it set up perfectly, my hands never get tired and my ass doesn't hurt. I think the problem was I'm 6'3" and weighed 295 lbs, I started working out and now Im 240 and I can lift quite a bit of weight and I can do pull ups again, my back doesnt hurt at all now on long rides, but my ass does hurt, I think its because now I can notice that ass pain over the back pain I had before.

    Cute puppy.
I changed it up a little. I take a bong hit, hold my breath, then drink a beer.
When I was in corp America, we had to do extra stuff and I got the job or being the office ergonomics leprechaun. I did actually have to learn about it. And you're right, paying attention to the core is how we should be riding. I pay a lot more attention to hit hustling the Thruxton around corners than I do touring on the HD. The big thing is keeping a curve in your lower back. Think of the way a lumbar support on a car works. It presses your lower back forward so your butt and upper back sit further back into the seat and maintains the proper curve in the spine. As we don't have lumbar support on bikes, we just need to be conscience of sticking our butt further back in the seat and trying to keep upright. What happens on bikes is we bend the spine into a C the wrong way, butt & upper back forward, lower back to the rear, if we aren't conscious of it. I do anyway. Gotta jut our butts out like we proud of them.
The power rangers backs are the wrong C, but they're young and made out of rubber. They're also only doing 20 minute sessions vs 600 mile days.

Was told that also work the mussels in front of the lower spin. And one more thing, I use a inversion table every morning for 3 to 5 minutes, sometimes longer. Study state's- man needs sex 27 time a month to help stay of Prostate Cancer, this helps back muscles also one would think. 🤔 Did she say it looks like your going to die. At least keep riding. You keep mentioning that the backrest doesn't look good on the bike. Who gives a damn? A motorcycle is for the rider to enjoy the feeling of freedom, travel, and personal enjoyment. If the owner has back issues and the backrest helps, then let them enjoy their bike without the criticisms about aesthetics. A motorcycle is about the experience on the road......not a beauty contest.

    • @OldNotDead-Club

Thanks for your comment. Aesthetics are very important to lots of people. The whole point of the video is that if you strength certain muscles you wont need a back rest. There's an argument to say a backrest (unless you already need it) just weakens certain muscles and therefore you will eventually NEED a backrest
