I was a leader for most of my career. Airline captain and a few years in management. I have no desire to lead. When I ride with a group I’m content to follow. Most of the time I ride where and when I want by myself. I can travel at my own pace. I can stop and start when I want.
@@OldNotDead-Club if you're with a known group, it's much less stressful. A group you don't know well can be stressful as you always looking out for the moron
This has become my new favorite channel. Im a outsider/outcast/zero, but Im good with that. Ive always enjoyed setting my own pace. Ive ridden 31 years, from Honda to Harley, Sportbikes to Sportsters and I love them all.
When I was 60 years old, 14 years ago, I rode my Harley 1200 Sportster from Clarksville, Tennessee to visit my younger brother in Fort Collins, Colorado. Trip was 2400 miles round trip. Memories of a lifetime. Your video of Aussie's riding Harleys on a bakery run is on the spot. Thanks.
This holds true for all bikes and group riders. Good video, personally I am extreme outsider, ride around 15-20000 miles a year alone, don’t own a car and don’t care what kind of bike you have I ride the one that seems best for my life travels!
I’m there with you dude. I’m a serious outsider too. 15K - 30K a year (depending on where I’m working). I don’t own a car and have no desire to join a club. Been riding Hondas (VTX 1300 and Sabre 1100) for many years. Just got a road king and traded in the VTX. It ain’t about what you ride. It’s about riding. There’s lots of people out the with “Live to Ride” all over their 3 year old bikes with 4K on the odometer. Edit: I bought a road king because I’ve never owned a Harley. I’ve had Kawasaki, Suzuki, Honda and back in the day I had a Wankel Hercules and a Triumph Bonnie. Never bought a Yamaha (I don’t know why). I’m old so this will likely be my last bike. I wanted to get something the son could rebuild and ride forever.
@@FriedPi-mc5yt Ah, the weekender wanna be type lol. Turned down a number of clubs wanting me to ride with them. Not a chance, grown men whining and gossiping like schoolgirls, P/T tough guys til their "ol lady" calls them then they slink off to a corner and sound like a 5 yr old. My god...
My Dad told me a long time ago, I would not make it in the Army, I can't follow orders, I told him I'm not a leader or a follower, I just want to do my own thing, never needed to be in a club, don't like to be around a lot of people. I like to Ride with 2 or 3 people the at the most.
I consider myself an "outsider". I've ridden alone for 50 years as I've never had other friends that ride. The couple times I have been on group rides I was very uncomfortable thinking I would screw up whatever the group etiquette is.
Recently came across your channel, and I love the psychology twist here…..And believe the best riders comfortably shift from one of any of the three as the situation warrants. I sense that you are comfortable in any of these roles as well
Been riding for 20 odd years. Never been and unlikely to become a Harley rider. So how did this become a recent favourite channel of mine? Because the themes really encompass the broader bike community and even broader than just riders. Nice work mate
Just between you and me, I didn't get my first Harley until I was 45 years old. I m a life long rider and own BMW, Suzuki, etc. I have to say the Harley is a joy to ride.
I'm a little late to this but the one thing I've learned over the years is that in order to be an effective leader, you must know how to be an effective follower.
I am an outsider... last group ride I participated in was last century. Also I ride Shovelheads and do not go over 90 km/h out of mechanical compassion, and wont let peer pressure push me into going faster.
Excellent video! I'm perfectly OK with being a follower and to give appreciation to the leaders who organize events. Also love the rear of the 1996 FLSTN Heritage Softail Special that pops in for a few seconds from 4:45 to 5:05. Same bike I have. EVOs For Ever! 👍
I LOVE being a follower!!!! I have a terrible sense of direction - and and even worse memory. I love to ride and I don’t care if it’s the same destination every time hhahahah
Outsider, definitely, 100%! I’ve never been able to just “fit in”, go with the flow, follow the pack, and I have zero interest in leading anyone, anywhere. Figure out your own way and make it happen. Why are you asking me or looking to me for “your” direction? If you want or need advice, that’s fine. That’s different. If you need help, I’m glad to help if I can. If you’re looking for someone to “follow” keep looking because you’ll just end up pissing me off and we won’t be friends anymore, lol.
What a bloody great video and couldn't be more true!! Been part of many groups in the past and you hit the nail on the head! And regardless of what we are, we're all still a community.
I’m definitely a follower, happy to tag along on a good ride but quite happy to pull the pin if it seem to slow or a shit fight. 😂😂😂 Love your channel even though I don’t have a Harley. I’ve got a 2020 Triumph Rocket 3R
What a great video, I really love this guy. I wish I was there with my bike to ride with these Harley brothers down under. They are some wonderful guys that feel and live a Harley Davidson life. What a release…!
I am back on 2 wheels for the first time in 20 years as of last year. I definitely would be a follower right now. A lot of others have way more experience than I do at this time and I know enough to know what I don't know lol. That said I hope everyone rides within their own limitations and doesn't show off, or try to ride like someone that has done it for years. Keep your ride shiny side up mate! Greetings from the states. Good vid
Fantastic! I just got back on 2 wheels after 20 years as well. I went out and bought 2 bikes lol. A 1200 sporty and a Evo wide glide. Now that the kids are grown, I can go have fun.
Just came across your channel. You present extremely well. Good looking (no homo), good voice, well thought out topics and discussion. Not a Harley guy (I prefer small displacement dual-sport bikes), but you make the topic interesting. Harley Davidson is the Elephant in the Room of the motorcycle "community", and gaining perspective from people who ride these infernal machines is worthwhile.
Interesting video, I’ve been a leader most of my life, but with that said, I am quite content to be a follower when it suits me. And I venture to say I’m a bit of an outsider in the sense that I am quite comfortable going my own way.
I was a leader in a para-military career for 30 years (law enforcement). I thrived in that environment. But it can be lonely. Hard decisions need to be made when time is of the essence. Being a leader can become your persona… your identity. That’s not good or bad. It just is. As a lifelong Harley rider, I’ve morphed into a outsider. Even the occasional meet up with other riders, tends to be old leaders that have sought refuge in being a outsider. 40 years ago, we called them “lone wolves”. I’ve accepted my fate. Roaming the earth from the edges… lookin in and out from a comfortable distance. But always ready to help or lead when called upon .
Thanks that's a wise comment and I can relate to that. I've found that us outsiders are not as outside as we think - we just need to try and be sociable. I'm putting the effort in because at the moment there are others who are dividing the world.
Being a follower, in a case where you have a strong group and a strong / good leader, is not a bad thing. I see follower as a supporter. You follow the leader in a group in support of a succesful ride, or succesful event or whatever the occasion is. I am a follower, and when asked to step up, I am a definite leader. Good content.
I play follower and leader pending on if I'm leading a ride that day. My group takes turns planning and whomever has the destination in mind gets to be road captain. Big benefit rides that we don't put on, we're usually outsiders that hang out in the back of the pack and decide by the second stop or lunch stop if we'll continue the ride or go our own way the rest of the day.
Awesome post! I guess, I am an Outsider (Lone Wolf). I have never rode in a group. Been riding since 30+ years ago, but stopped for about 25, and just picked up again 3 years ago with Slim and now keeping my Fatboy till the end.
New sub here, great videos mate! I think you missed a type & it is what I would say i am. We will call it a "Leadollower". I am a leader professionally so the last thing I want to do with my hobbies is be in charge. I do however want a well planned & organized event so what I do is come up with a plan, work out all the nits & pitch it to a mate so he gets excited at the idea. Before he knows it, its his plan & hes in charge.
While I've played the role of all 3 Types, I tend to vacillate between being an Outsider and a Follower. Having acquired my used, gorgeous '07 FLSTN about 15 months and 8,000 km ago (5K miles), I mostly ride alone here in Arizona, seeking out many of the more challenging twisties to hone my skills. But when in a group, I acquiesce to my more experienced rider friends and am just happy to be part of a group ride as a Follower. And when my longtime, out-of-state friends visited for a week of riding, I chose all the destinations, the painstaking route planning, and led the 4-some ride as a Leader. To me, riding brings a zen-like feeling because you have to always be "in the moment", not letting your mind wonder with life's other distractions or worries.
Well said. I mostly ride on my own, when I rode in a group I was a follower, because there was people, at the time, that were more experienced and knowledgeable than I. I agree with having to be in the moment while riding. When I started riding, biking was all that, still feel it is, it forces you to be in the moment or bad things will happen. I started noticing I was spacing out while driving in the car and riding helped me to take notice this and become more aware while driving a car.
Just watched your video from a year ago I'm a leader in my local church and music director of an international Christian organisation it's been a challenging situation having an outsider come in. I'm a 50 Year old learner rider hanging with the saints as a follower. Love your content on this channel.
I love been a follower. We had a great leader that we rode with from CA to Sturgis. I could sit back and just enjoy and ride. He had gas stations, hotels, restaurants, and senic ponts one of the best trips I have had.
I am not sure what you would call it but I like to watch over everyone an make sure their okay, or if they need something I always try to have extra. I prefer the back of the pack however I am the one that can ride the fastest an safest. ✌💜✝️ Love the channel. Keep being you
Great video mate! I am a leader in my professional career, however on rides I can be both a leader and follower… I prefer to be a follower on rides. ✌️
I started as a follower, grown into a leader, but after couple of years, when everything changed - family, friends, work, even country I am in now - I became an outsider. By a choice, I am too old and too stubborn to give a fk. I just enjoy it my way.
I'm definitely an outsider and prefer it that way as I've always been riding alone i only do group rides when I need to or just to support something that I am interested in that is very rare lol I much prefer long distance solo rides that way I'm not reliant on other riders to try and keep up with me 😂😂
Hey mate, very interesting Questions there, I was watching, think'n 🤔 Leader 🤔 Follower or Outsider.... Bye the end of it I said, a Bit of All of them... I was the one who tried to start the Vloggers meet ups in Australia... before the fires in 2019, the Floods the year after, then COVID hit & stuffed that all up... & The other two are obvious... Then you got to the part were we all have a bit of everything in all of us🤙🏻🍻✌🏻 Exactly that, Freedom Cheers Smitty
I am a 70 yr old woman, I ride a fatboy and a softail Deluxe. I am a parent and have been a leader in corporate world. I now have my own business and ride every chance I get. Alone or with others. I only take the lead if the other riders don't want to. I just jump in and become the leader. But, prefer to be a follower. I am an outsider, probably because 98% of riders are men. I wrecked my bike in early 2021. This was a really bad accident. In late 2022, I got back on my steell horse. Good video!
Thanks and great to see someone riding at 70 - that is sensational. It's also good to see a woman riding and watching the channel. Hope i can deliver more good content
Great content topic. I consider myself a follower in the HD community. My position at work is a leader. I look forward to my time off and wish to not have to worry about decision making and organizing. I like to go with the flow and the freedom to follow along. Though I do appreciate a good leader if having to go on a group ride.
That was an interesting group of riders! I'd have said "independent, outsider", but I've been a follower, leader, two decades in the Marines, private to Gunnery Sergeant, had a motley collection of bikes through the years. I go out on my old Triumph more than the Harleys these days. I've got three harleys, but the Triumph is "the odd one out" more than the others. Haven't been on my chop for close to a decade, still sitting at the front of the shop though. I suspect that's a question seldom fully answered as it changes day by day. That's my take from the US. Enjoyed the question being answered, and enjoyed the scenery well.
Was a leader from the time I picked up Corporal in the Corps until I retired as a Gunnery Sergeant. Have been a leader at work since 97. However, I ride alone or with one or two very trusted people. Have never trusted group rides.
I have been riding for 29 years now. I am definitely an outsider. On trips with my parents(each of them riding their own trike), I’ll follow, but normally ride alone. My personality type is leader all the way, but I’m not afraid to follow at times.
Hi Amen, I'm 55 years old this year and been back on the bikes around 12 years. Around 6 or 7 years ago a started up my own group Brisbane Motorcycle Enthusiasts (BMCE). I would organise rides ever weekend and we would normally get around 10 to 15 riders. The biggest problem i had was that 20 guys would say they were coming and only 10 or 15 would turn up. I always booked a pub or restaurant for lunch and had to always ring ahead and tell the publican that the numbers are down and they would always crack the shits. I then said that i would like someone to take over the rides so could have a break and no one wanted. I eventually stoped organising rides , kept the FB page going and went on rides with close mates or by myself. I'm a small business owner, owning Queensland Bearings and always been in a managerial role throughout my career. I'm currently riding a 2022 BMW R1250GSA Adventure motorcycle but looking at changing to a Ultra maybe this year. I find your videos very motivating and inspirational, not just in the of motorcycle riding but with life skills.
I don't mind following or leading but I'm more than likely the outsider. I have trouble agreeing with the "group leaders" decisions on route and destination most of the time. Honestly I really don't like riding with more than just 2 or 3 people anyways, especially if it's a bunch of people I haven't rode much with. I like just going for it and ending up wherever these ride takes me...
I think your right as far as all motorcycle riders are outsiders to an extent, I'd say of those who do ride many Harley riders are followers and seek the community, an Outsider wouldn't do that, you will see them riding alone in something unique they like.
I was a leader for a long time. I recently relocated and I am happy (for now) following the group at least until I get to know the new group and roads.
I do both! Depends on situations. It’s kinda nice to just relax and follow occasionally! I jumped the gun , outsider for sure, I’m so outside I meld in with all the riders that are all three!!
Have been all three at times, was Road Captain for 3 years in a club in Memphis, led my buddy and I cross country & have been content to be a follower as well. Usually ride by myself so I would consider myself an outsider as well. But I’m sociable..
I'm a follower. I hate trying to organize a group ride, plan the ride, or convince others to join the ride. I do like being the reliable one to show up for a ride if it's good, but if it's bad or being lead by a bad leader then I can bail.
I guess I might be an Outsider. Lost some pals when I was young to thrills and spills - others lost limbs and quit. I either had a guardian angel on my shoulder or I'm just plain lucky. I went my own way for a long time - had my own career, agenda, places to see and things to do. I've met some real interesting guys on Harleys though, and I got to say some of the best of them were 'outsiders'. Some of the best games of pool and conversations I ever had were with guys from patch clubs. Me? I ain't never signed up to anything. Maybe I just don't belong? Guess I'm that oddball with the long hair, limp and an old top hat who prefers dogs to people. That'd be me. The 'outsider'?
@@OldNotDead-Club I have 4 pins holding left shoulder together & 1 fake hip, a few weeks ago I was told I need surgery on my right shoulder, all that hard work through years is catching up, good seats, wind shields & throttle locks are a great idea
Interesting topic as always 👍🏼. I reckon I am a follower but only to a good leader. If a good leader is non existent then probably can swing to a leader or an outsider depending on the followers
I would say I'm an outsider, I prefer to ride alone, but will join any charity ride I can. Biggest ride of the year is the gippsland toy ride followed by the black dog ride. Would be great to see you at the toy run one year.
Pretty informative video, thank you. In my opinion, the best path one can take on their motorcycling journey is that we all start off as lonewolves in some way (outsiders), then we become followers, and then hope to one day learn from our leaders, and lead in some manner. However, I believe a healthy balance is to be able to be both a leader and a follower whenever you need to be one or the other, thus being able to seamlessly bond with the others during almost every group ride. Of course, not everyone is fit to play the leading role, and for these people, I believe the best path is a healthy balance of follower and lonewolf. Personally, I'm still at the very beginning of my journey, and thus I remain a complete outsider for the time being.
I don't see the mindset of riding in packs, never have ridden in a pack and never will . There are too many ways something bad will eventually happen. After 58 years of riding this seems to work for me. On long trips I ride alone or with the wife on the back of what ever bike I'm riding.. I have ridden twice with a long time friend ( early 1970"s) and an accomplished rider but neither of us were a "leader". Currently I "follow" my wife as she's still working on her M license and a two year novice rider with little seat time. I follow her to keep an eye on her and hopefully intervene if and when I'm needed. I guess I'm an "outsider" and a "follower", both for safety reasons.
Thanks for your input. I guess riding in a group has advantages and disadvantages. I like the social part - if you are with others that can ride I think it's pretty safe
I’ve been all 3 over the years. A successful leader can only be successful if egos aren’t involved. I’ve seen a few ruined this way. I’ve lead in charity events I’ve organised, I’ve also followed, less stressful. I think I’ll be more of an outsider/solo rider when I get my license back
I have had leadership roles professionally and personally but I consider myself an Outsider first because I typically am particular about what I want to do and I have the confidence to do my own thing.
I'm mostly an outsider that digs in and grinds and leads by example. Professionaly I've always gravited towards being an instructor (military / Law Enforcement) Now I work in sales and enjoy the team but enjoy the individual achievement even more. When it comes to ridding I'm new. 1st year at 53 years old but love my 21 Heritage and find i most enjoy it when riding alone or with a good friend. I also am practicing on my own constantly, doing drills and practicing techniques on back roadways when I'm not riding having to navigate freeways when I ride in. The more I ride the more I think i will stay an outsider. At best in a small group.
Thank you for video I am just a old School loner so was interested to see your group - community - HOG ride... I noticed your cafe racer jacket from the video it seems identical to mine I was fortunate to pick up one in a vintage shop circa 1960s they're pretty rare in XL 😎
@@CanadianNomadBiker LOL, I bought it France over the internet because it was cheap (much cheaper than here in Australia) It's tailor made other wise it won't fit. Not posh -- fit. small waist big chest shoulders and arms.
I’m from Arizona I think this state in the U.S has a lot of outsiders that turn into Leaders, as of now I’m a outsider. From Arizona ✌🏻 like the channel.
I feel l am an outsider, I do however set up rides but encourages others to take the leadership role so l can follow to shoot footage of the ride . I will lead if others don't know the road . Then drop back to tail-end Charlie to watch over beginner's. As you have seen l ride something different to most people. Not afraid to do my own thing and attend many different events alone . Happy to follow a great group of mate on a 2000km ride over 2 days
I’m an outsider! I was into group rides until 2 things happened. First, I was in TX with a nice group of people but they followed no safety protocols. In the group ride, the leader took us onto a busy highway at 95mph. The group broke up as we chose not to pace at that speed. Then there was numerous lane changes. I decided it was too dangerous so I dropped out. The other ride was in TN where I now live. The ride was for charity. The Road Captain showed up, went to the front with a huge confederate flag on a bracket on the back of his bike. Many of us contemplated dropping out but stayed with the ride to support the women who the ride was for(breast cancer survivor). We were upset the Road Captain would assume all of us thought it was ok to fly that flag. It represents a dark history in the US. He has the right to fly the flag, just not when he’s leading a group for a charity ride. Therefore I’ve stopped participating in group rides.
Outsider is popular. I guess that's the problem with all groups, catering for everyone. Hopefully that hasn't put you off the social side of motorcycles.
Definately outsider... been riding for 40 years.. used to go to bike rallies with mates 30 years ago.. was always the 'boy racer" .. 2019 went to the US and went across the country and met up with route 66 tours(great people) was always the racer and wanted to go off all the time ... things never change lol😂cheers Craig PS - look up "Harros Great Adventure" on here some xontent on the US and Sturgis etc
I will go to gatherings, but I ride alone to get there and ride home alone. I also usually stay at a different hotel than where the group stays because I need my decompress time. When I ride with others I prefer to be at the back since I know first aid and carry tools.
Definitely an outsider. I know the route but often go my own way only to meet up at the next stop. It also give me the opportunity to ride at my own pace.
Because I'm willing to the homework required to map out a great ride, it usually means that I lead the pack. So in that sense I am a leader. But, when I'm able to just follow it is a nice break and I can just relax and enjoy the ride.
First follower is the bravest. Everyone else takes their cue from them. Leader has the idea but first follower recognises it and says "yep" "good idea", others follow on from there.
I’m a little bit of all of them. Sometimes ride alone for hours on end or follow which is nice because you don’t have to think. I’d have to say outsider for me
I am a FOLLOWER and not afraid to say so I don't feel any negativity on it and here is why. I am a leader in my professional life and in my personal life. I am a manager and leader at work and I am the leader of my household. When it comes to riding and doing runs with groups I much rather not lead, I want to just show up, ride, have some fun, eat, chit chat, relax and make no executive decisions. It is a great way to reset my mind and spirit before heading back to life and having the stress of leading again.
I would have to agree that this applies to a motorcycle riding group…. I am a loner/soloist. The 4th type of Harley rider. I ride a Harley but have no interest in riding in groups and the “bonding”. I am content being by myself. 🤷♂️
These days when someone asks "what do you identify as"...it's going to be a ridiculous conversation - LOL! That being said - typically I am a bonafide outsider, especially in a group of riders that I don't know but typically prefer to ride alone. Since I don't own a bike on account of the very short riding season where I live, my riding is typically a rental and solo riding at a good weather location of my choosing.
When it's something important, a good follower is key to the success of the leader. It can be very rewarding. I've been both leader and follower, even both at the same time at work. I do my best to set a good example in both roles and teach others to do and be their best in their roles. Depending on the situation, we can all be outsiders or have been at times. When I feel I'm an outsider, doing something new or around unfamiliar people, I mostly observe and maybe ask a question here and there to form an opinion to make decisions such as, is this for me, should I stay or go, if I stay where do I fit, and so on.
There are two of us that are newest to our group of riders. Our place right now is to be followers. We aren't the leaders, but may grow into leadership roles
I've played the role of both leader and the follower many times. Leader most of my nursing career. Follower most of my biking career. With this said I consider myself an outsider. I seldom ride with groups due to the fact if you are not leading the scenery never changes.
I end up the leader because no one else will lead. I’d prefer to be a follower and just go for the ride. And I’m a bit of an outsider as I just a much want to ride by myself, as in a group. It’s sometimes more fun to just go on my own way.
What about the type of people who completely do their own thing. Ride alone, ride long haul, overseas, travel alone to do things they want to do. I only do long haul overseas from the UK to see my partner in Germany. That's 700 miles. I do that in 1 day on a sportster and 2023 I will ride to the artic circle in norway. The day riders are such a different breed
Correct....most people who are called leaders..from themselves or others are posers. Doing their deal for self gratification out of lack of self esteem or confidence...but not all. There are actually true leaders...but they won't be bragging about being one. Followers are a dime a dozen...99% of earth's population. Then there are the independent vagabonds...who do their riding by their own inspiration...true independent souls that dont look for or need validation by anyone. I prefer to live that life...always have and always will.
I think a lot of ppl think they are leaders. Most are not. Most are followers. It takes a certain person to be a leader on a bike. And even then it takes another person to actually keep things on track.
I am an outsider. I ride no Matter what the weather is. It can be raining, snowing, or just plain ass cold, like 20% or below. I just enjoy the ride. I ride a Try Glade, A 3-wheeler with all season tires. It is my only mode of transportation. Am from Montana.
Outsider I do attend the odd HOG event but happy to just ride around alone at my own pace. It is interesting when the street 500 and now the x350 and 500 are out they seem to cop the flack, my friend has a green fleck green 72 and I enjoy my Iron 883 . I like to push the boundaries of people perceived perceptions of what a Harley is or the people who ride them I guess.
Last HOG ride I passed 2 thirds of the pack until settling down riding with front group. I knew the road which they did not, been riding since 1972, and was on a 1900 Yamaha. As a group ride is not a race there is no leader or follower only an organiser and participant who can either contribute or just be passive.
@@OldNotDead-Club The ride was in a local country town in WA...Ive only been on 3 or 4 big group rides before. So I went and asked if I could ride with them. Do you have a Harley? No. I had a WLA in 1972.I replied. Well , seeing I was apparently the only local who turned up on their bike They said Tag along at the rear behind their last guy....and breakdown trailer. It is after all a public road. So I did and went around town making a noise and blaming it on The Harley riders. Out on the road I found I began to overtake until my comfortable speed was found. It was good blasting past bunches of Harleys. My bike was clean and shiny. Truck like motor. Noisy but ugly single vince and hines pipe that was on it when i swapped my F6B Wing for a real bike not a 2 wheeled 1970s Civic. I stopped half way in the ride and waved at the passing bikes with their riders and passengers. I did not ride the last 20 kms as that stretch of their route has a very long straight, with a kink in the middle , then more straight road where it is possible and tempting to explore the upper reaches of your bikes performance. I thought this would be out of bounds on a group ride with a respectable profile.

I like to
Ride with 2 or 3 people the at the most.
Thanks many people are like that
I consider myself an "outsider". I've ridden alone for 50 years as I've never had other friends that ride. The couple times I have been on group rides I was very uncomfortable thinking I would screw up whatever the group etiquette is.
IMHO perhaps there are some benefits to joining a community and a little positive thinking will allow you to relax?
SAme...by the time I hit mid 20s all the guys got married, wives wouldnt let them got lazy etc.
Recently came across your channel, and I love the psychology twist here…..And believe the best riders comfortably shift from one of any of the three as the situation warrants. I sense that you are comfortable in any of these roles as well
Thank you. You are very perceptive
Been riding for 20 odd years. Never been and unlikely to become a Harley rider. So how did this become a recent favourite channel of mine?
Because the themes really encompass the broader bike community and even broader than just riders. Nice work mate
Thanks very much. Your feedback is appreciated
Great point!!
Great point!!
@@OldNotDead-Club as for me, I'm definitely an outsider
I'm an outsider trapped in the body of a leader who identifies as a follower🤣
LOL - great reply, thanks
hahaha, i feel it!!!
Very good! Funny as hell! Totally fits into today’s world.
I am a HOG member in good standing, I participate in the fund raising but just not feeling the group ride thing at present. I will ride alone though.
Yeh, good comment
I am an outsider... last group ride I participated in was last century. Also I ride Shovelheads and do not go over 90 km/h out of mechanical compassion, and wont let peer pressure push me into going faster.
wise words and shovels are very cool bikes
Excellent video! I'm perfectly OK with being a follower and to give appreciation to the leaders who organize events. Also love the rear of the 1996 FLSTN Heritage Softail Special that pops in for a few seconds from 4:45 to 5:05. Same bike I have. EVOs For Ever! 👍
Thank you - yes Evo's are cool wish I had of kept my first Harley which was an Evo.
Evo's for me too. Best motor they've made. Tons of parts. Cheaper to fix. Easy to work on since I like to work on my own stuff.
I LOVE being a follower!!!! I have a terrible sense of direction - and and even worse memory. I love to ride and I don’t care if it’s the same destination every time hhahahah
Lol, lots of advantages to it!
Lol, thanks for your comment, seems to be a lot of us outsiders
What a bloody great video and couldn't be more true!! Been part of many groups in the past and you hit the nail on the head! And regardless of what we are, we're all still a community.
Thank you
Am a leader and a follower. Everyone in a group has ideas, some good, some bad. Just enjoy yourself on ride outs.
Thanks
I’m definitely a follower, happy to tag along on a good ride but quite happy to pull the pin if it seem to slow or a shit fight. 😂😂😂
Love your channel even though I don’t have a Harley.
I’ve got a 2020 Triumph Rocket 3R
What a great video, I really love this guy. I wish I was there with my bike to ride with these Harley brothers down under. They are some wonderful guys that feel and live a Harley Davidson life. What a release…!
Thank you. That's much appreciated
Good vid
Thank you and glad to hear you are back on a bike - stay safe
Fantastic! I just got back on 2 wheels after 20 years as well. I went out and bought 2 bikes lol. A 1200 sporty and a Evo wide glide. Now that the kids are grown, I can go have fun.
@@MichaelRCarlson that's great news - go for it
Just came across your channel.
Thanks I think we all have a little of each in us
I was a leader in a para-military career for 30 years (law enforcement).
Good content.
thanks that's much appreciated - i agree with you
I play follower and leader pending on if I'm leading a ride that day. My group takes turns planning and whomever has the destination in mind gets to be road captain. Big benefit rides that we don't put on, we're usually outsiders that hang out in the back of the pack and decide by the second stop or lunch stop if we'll continue the ride or go our own way the rest of the day.
Thanks, I agree all the spots are good - sometimes
Awesome post! I guess, I am an Outsider (Lone Wolf). I have never rode in a group. Been riding since 30+ years ago, but stopped for about 25, and just picked up again 3 years ago with Slim and now keeping my Fatboy till the end.
Thank you - love the Fat Boy
Well interesting video! I agree with your last observation. We are in all three types and others as situations changes. Well done! Enjoy your videos.
Thanks for the sub! Lol, great answer, very wise and I can relate to that
While I've played the role of all 3 Types, I tend to vacillate between being an Outsider and a Follower.
Thanks, I think many people will agree about riding as therapy and the zen like state acheived

Great video mate!
I am a leader in my professional career, however on rides I can be both a leader and follower… I prefer to be a follower on rides. ✌️
Thanks that's much appreciated. It is relaxing and fun to be a follower on group rides
I started as a follower, grown into a leader, but after couple of years, when everything changed - family, friends, work, even country I am in now - I became an outsider. By a choice, I am too old and too stubborn to give a fk. I just enjoy it my way.
Way to go, thanks for your input
I'm definitely an outsider and prefer it that way as I've always been riding alone i only do group rides when I need to or just to support something that I am interested in that is very rare lol I much prefer long distance solo rides that way I'm not reliant on other riders to try and keep up with me 😂😂
Fair enough! Thanks for the comment - outsider seems to be a popular choice

🤔 Follower or Outsider....

Thanks and great point you have made. It certainly is more relaxing just following along for the ride
Than you - you are lucky to have multiple bikes
Semper-Fi brother. 03 for life. 😁
Great channel love your content. Paul from Harley Road show a great guy.
Thank you, yes he is
Was a leader from the time I picked up Corporal in the Corps until I retired as a Gunnery Sergeant. Have been a leader at work since 97. However, I ride alone or with one or two very trusted people. Have never trusted group rides.
Probably very wise, thank you. I think most ex military are natural leaders when in the general public
I have been riding for 29 years now. I am definitely an outsider. On trips with my parents(each of them riding their own trike), I’ll follow, but normally ride alone. My personality type is leader all the way, but I’m not afraid to follow at times.
Thanks great way to be
Hi Amen, I'm 55 years old this year and been back on the bikes around 12 years.
Thank you that's appreciated
I don't mind following or leading but I'm more than likely the outsider. I have trouble agreeing with the "group leaders" decisions on route and destination most of the time. Honestly I really don't like riding with more than just 2 or 3 people anyways, especially if it's a bunch of people I haven't rode much with. I like just going for it and ending up wherever these ride takes me...
Thanks, both ways have advantages and disadvantages.
I think your right as far as all motorcycle riders are outsiders to an extent, I'd say of those who do ride many Harley riders are followers and seek the community, an Outsider wouldn't do that, you will see them riding alone in something unique they like.
Outsiders are not loners?
I was a leader for a long time. I recently relocated and I am happy (for now) following the group at least until I get to know the new group and roads.
Thanks, nothing wrong with following - otherwise there are no leaders
I do both! Depends on situations. It’s kinda nice to just relax and follow occasionally! I jumped the gun , outsider for sure, I’m so outside I meld in with all the riders that are all three!!
Lol thats the way to be!
Have been all three at times, was Road Captain for 3 years in a club in Memphis, led my buddy and I cross country & have been content to be a follower as well. Usually ride by myself so I would consider myself an outsider as well. But I’m sociable..
lol i can understand that - i'm a sociable outsider too
I'm a follower. I hate trying to organize a group ride, plan the ride, or convince others to join the ride. I do like being the reliable one to show up for a ride if it's good, but if it's bad or being lead by a bad leader then I can bail.
Great spot to be in and essential
I guess iam a loner, been riding all my life not into riding with any groups of people prefering to go where i want when iwant.
Nothing wrong with that - great feeling being free
Thanks - good comment

Thanks for watching, outside us a popular choice
Yip thanks Amon I think you just hit the nail on the head for me I would probably consider myself an "Outsider" being that I'm allittle intro
Thanks for watching
A follower ... I find I have a wider scope of Learning, and meet more people.
Great point! Thank you
I don't see the mindset of riding in packs, never have ridden in a pack and never will .
I think I’ll be more of an outsider/solo rider when I get my license back
Thanks Michelle, look forward to seeing you on a ride again
Winter has arrived here in Scotland, hopefully not to harsh so can still get a ride out someplace.
I sympathise with you - winter can be tough
I have had leadership roles professionally and personally but I consider myself an Outsider first because I typically am particular about what I want to do and I have the confidence to do my own thing.
Thank you
I'm mostly an outsider that digs in and grinds and leads by example.
Thanks - great to see someone with the discipline to practice. With your back ground you will also be able to lead if you wish

Then drop back to tail-end Charlie to watch over beginner's. As you have seen l ride something different to most people. Not afraid to do my own thing and attend many different events alone . Happy to follow a great group of mate on a 2000km ride over 2 days
Thanks Lizard, keep up the good work filming Melbourne rides! Hope you are loving that new bike!
I ride alone for the same reasons!
Thank you, outsider is very popular
I will go to gatherings, but I ride alone to get there and ride home alone. I also usually stay at a different hotel than where the group stays because I need my decompress time. When I ride with others I prefer to be at the back since I know first aid and carry tools.
Thanks
Definitely an outsider.
I know the route but often go my own way only to meet up at the next stop.
It also give me the opportunity to ride at my own pace.
Outsider is surprisingly popular
@@OldNotDead-Club not sure whether you stated this in your video, but to be a biker in the first place, one tends to be an outsider to start with.
@@robertholland7558 yeah that's true and probably why so many replied with outsider.
Because I'm willing to the homework required to map out a great ride, it usually means that I lead the pack. So in that sense I am a leader.
But, when I'm able to just follow it is a nice break and I can just relax and enjoy the ride.
Thank you, yes being the leader takes work.
First follower is the bravest. Everyone else takes their cue from them. Leader has the idea but first follower recognises it and says "yep" "good idea", others follow on from there.
Thank you - that's a great point and very insightful
I’m a little bit of all of them. Sometimes ride alone for hours on end or follow which is nice because you don’t have to think. I’d have to say outsider for me
Thank you - yes they all have their merits
I am a FOLLOWER and not afraid to say so I don't feel any negativity on it and here is why. I am a leader in my professional life and in my personal life. I am a manager and leader at work and I am the leader of my household. When it comes to riding and doing runs with groups I much rather not lead, I want to just show up, ride, have some fun, eat, chit chat, relax and make no executive decisions. It is a great way to reset my mind and spirit before heading back to life and having the stress of leading again.
I understand and agree with that 100%
You’re actually a leader whose having a rest being a follower lol 😂
No problem being a follower as long as you have a Good leader! 👍🏻🙏🏻😀
Spot on, thanks
Love you video bro keep them coming
Thank you that's much appreciated
Lol, the beauty of it is you can identify as anything you want and people have to agree lol. I'm going to be Batman for a while.
Wise words, thank you
As a Sigma male I am most definitely an outsider. I prefer to ride alone almost all the time.
Riding alone be great for the soul, I do it alot
I don’t what I am lol! I mostly ride alone. I have rode with groups . But I usually split off somewhere along the way.
Thank you
There are two of us that are newest to our group of riders. Our place right now is to be followers. We aren't the leaders, but may grow into leadership roles
Thanks for watching
I've played the role of both leader and the follower many times. Leader most of my nursing career. Follower most of my biking career. With this said I consider myself an outsider. I seldom ride with groups due to the fact if you are not leading the scenery never changes.
Thank you, wise words indeed
it was a great day regardless of the suspect weather thanks for your input to the day mate and your video cheers ferbs
Thanks Chris
Lately Ive been solo riding! No one can ever make time to ride! I ride pretty much all year round here in Central Texas! 💯
I'm envious - we have bad weather winters but at least no snow
@@OldNotDead-Club thats very unfortunate! No worries chief! 👍🏼
I end up the leader because no one else will lead. I’d prefer to be a follower and just go for the ride. And I’m a bit of an outsider as I just a much want to ride by myself, as in a group. It’s sometimes more fun to just go on my own way.
Thanks, that's true sometimes riding on your own is the best
Totally relate to that Troll! Cheers!
It's a great point but not everyone can do that - even if they wanted to
Correct....most people who are called leaders..from themselves or others are posers.
Spot on, thank you
I am an outsider. I ride no Matter what the weather is. It can be raining, snowing, or just plain ass cold, like 20% or below. I just enjoy the ride. I ride a Try Glade, A 3-wheeler with all season tires. It is my only mode of transportation. Am from Montana.
Thanks for your comment and hello from across the world
Im just happy to be here!
Great attitude and wise words
Depends on the scenario....I can all be three at anytime, depending on the circumstances.
Thats a great spot to be in
Outsider I do attend the odd HOG event but happy to just ride around alone at my own pace. It is interesting when the street 500 and now the x350 and 500 are out they seem to cop the flack, my friend has a green fleck green 72 and I enjoy my Iron 883 . I like to push the boundaries of people perceived perceptions of what a Harley is or the people who ride them I guess.
True we are all leaders followers & outsiders … we all lead ourselves to our bikes than we ride outside than we follow cars truck other bikes .🤘🏻
Lol
Last HOG ride I passed 2 thirds of the pack until settling down riding with front group.
I knew the road which they did not, been riding since 1972, and was on a 1900 Yamaha.
As a group ride is not a race there is no leader or follower only an organiser and participant who can either contribute or just be passive.
thank you - i thought HOG groups had strict rules on their rides?
@@OldNotDead-Club The ride was in a local country town in WA...Ive only been on 3 or 4 big group rides before.
So I went and asked if I could ride with them.
Do you have a Harley?
No. I had a WLA in 1972.I replied.
Well , seeing I was apparently the only local who turned up on their bike
They said Tag along at the rear behind their last guy....and breakdown trailer.
