- From Act 1 of Puccini's 'Madame Butterfly' we hear Pinkerton's aria "Dovunqe al mondo" followed by the Entrance of Butterfly. This scene comes from the 1995 film of the opera directed by Frederic Mitterand, with Ying Huang as Butterfly, Richard Troxell as Lieutenant Pinkerton, Richard Cowan as the American Consul at Nagazaki, and Jing Ma Fan as Goro the marriage broker.
"All over the world," sings Pinkerton, "the Yankee wanders on business and pleasure ... He does what he pleases wherever he goes, so I'm marrying in Japanese fashion for nine hundred and ninety-nine years, except that I can free myself every month." Soon Butterfly and her friends arrive to meet Pinkerton, singing of the sea, the sky and all the pretty flowers. Butterfly's entrance is absolutely SUBLIME! It's an otherwordly music! You can feel all her purity, all her dreamlike personality, that delicious Song of Innocence giving free flow to all the IMMENSE love that she has in her soul!
Well said 🦋
For me ,the whole production is the most beautiful rendition of Madame Butterfly that I have seen and heard.
My G ! Heaven voices. I have tears hearing this aria.
Happy July 4, from Italia!
Butterfly's entrance 6:38
Where was this filmed? Simply beautiful. Pinkerton is suitably rakish and, of course, heedless in the face of the warning from Sharpless. Butterfly's entrance cannot be done better than this, and although she will come to grief, she seems nonetheless stronger and surer of herself than Pinkerton. The folks at Jack Daniel's cannot have been displeased, either.
The entire Japanese village set and house were built in Tunisia, Northern Africa.
Maravilloso dúo, bravo
The national anthem theme was chilling
A much better version of Madam Butterfly
One of these days if I figure out how, I'll post the whole movie of this opera. Region 1 dvd's are out of print and a bit rare and it doesn't look like Sony will do a re-run any time soon.
Can't wait! The clips I've seen of this movie are magical.

I don't think that's possible :(

I’ve never seen my anthem used in such a chilling way
Is this where Weezer got there idea for Butterfly?
And most of pinkerton
Kann mur mal jemand sagen, wer davon Pinkerton ist, danke
It says so quite clearly in the description under the video. Even if you don't speak English, "Richard Troxell as Lieutenant Pinkerton" should be obvious. If not, he is the tenor sitting on the left.
@@adam28xx Ty 👁👄👁
Jack Daniels for breakfast?
Anytime dear , anytime !
Not a powerful enough voice for Butterfly. That voice is supposed to soar and she screams
Literally what I came here to say. She sounds like what a Butterfly truly “should” sound like- young, not mature. But, Puccini wrote this music for a bigger voice. This voice could not carry on stage over an orchestra and the chorus.
This is a motion picture with close-ups. No screaming needed!
Decir que una cantante lírica grita es no saber nada.
The tenor is weak...
How do you figure?? It's a clear, bright sound. Fits everything beautifully!!!!!!!
@@rogermiller3209 It's a very handsome and fitting voice.
This lighter tenor Pinkerton matches the lighter Butterfly of Yin Huang
