Madame Butterfly waits for the ship of her beloved Pinkerton to come. In fact her death comes closer.
composed by Ciacomo Puccini
performed by the Hungarian State Opera
played this at my dads funeral as we went into the chapel. He loved his opera's. every time i hear this it reminds me of my dad who i miss dearly
We played this half way through my sons funeral so that his friends could think of him for a moment, he was 48
We played this too at my Mums funeral as we walked her out...the length of the aisle was the length of the music...everyone was crying...it was truly fitting for such a lovely woman...x
I sing it to my baby girl to put her to sleep...
@@buddyholly73 your comment made me cry... I am so sorry for your loss
Different latitudes , same feelings. Same music for may passed away Father. He loved Puccini . My last homage .Dad , I missed You.
I heard this last night on Classic FM at 2am in the morning while driving on a dark country road. It was absolutely beautiful.
Possibly one of the most perfect pieces of music ever.
without question 😃
this is actually my favorite music in the entire opera. it really moves me.
Mine too. I never particularly liked the opera and, to be fair, it is pretty hard to stage many sopranos as a 15 year-old geisha. I think Suzuki is my favourite character, as she seems to be the only one that realizes what is going on, but is also bearing the emotional brunt in her loyalty to Cio-cio San. This chorus cuts through everything I have ever heard by Puccini, though La Fanciulla del West is my favourite opera of his.
If music is said to be universal, this unspoken chorus is the summit of how it can reach the heart from any human being
Well said! It is so moving and powerful, I get goosebumps everytime I listen to it.
It plucks rare almost never used strings in the soul.
Mum chose this herself for her funeral years ago. We honoured her wishes last year and knew she would have loved it. It's the most sublime piece of music I have ever heard.
You are so right. May her soul rest in peace.
Same with my mom...
I hope it got through to her.... somehow....
The one time I had the fortune to see this opera on stage, the choir came out onto the balcony I was sitting, behind us, and I didn't notice they were there till halfway through. And it was practically angelic as they started singing. Magical music.
My dream is to see Madame Butterfly performed live at an opera theatre. For now, I am content just listening. This part of it fills my soul. It is quite touching.
It's on this September at the Royal Opera House in London 💜
@@melissatranfield4054 I saw it last week at the royal opera house it was brilliant
Beautiful opera
It's the only opera I've seen live. Years ago in Houston. It was absolutely wonderful. I'll never forget. Hope you see it.
I attended last weekend in Dublin. Moved me to tears , I'm a 47 year old construction worker. The guys at work take the piss because I take my daughters to the ballet and opera as I enjoy it myself but its them who are missing out.
Puccini knew how to give life to a dream in notes. Just sublime.
"Humming Chorus" always makes me remember when I used to sing llulabies to my babies and my little brothers and sister. This chorus in particular moves me deeply because I know the story of Madame Butterfly. I solidarize with all abandoned women.
You are my best friend
You are my ONLY friend.
Maybe one of the most ethereal musical pieces...ever!
Mary and Max's ending made me sob
This was in Mary and max?
He smelt like liquorice
and old books, she thought to herself, as tears rolled from her eyes, the colour of muddy puddles
For me, nothing demonstrates how music can capture the soul than this...............
My God, what a heavenly music!!! It is what I say every time when I listen to this chorus.... this must have been inspired from Heaven! This is the most beautiful operatic chorus ever composed...... Thank you for sharing!
I fully agree, this music is from another level of existence.
Tecnicamente não tem refrão.....
He composed while in heavy depression state💔
you know something funny...Puccini said that it came from God, that he he would write it down, but it came from a Divine source
🙏👍
Too beautiful for words really. What a wonderful man Puccini was!
Puccini was dangerous with women 😉
Several people have noted that "Bring Him Home" (appropriately also a night-time vigil) clearly quotes this chorus, but I've not heard anyone else remark on the similarity between the opening phrase and the opening of Schubert's Piano Sonata in B-flat major, D. 960 (same key as this). I've always found that sonata to be extraordinary for just how heart-rending it makes B-flat major sound, so I'm not surprised Puccini drew from it to create one of his most moving compositions.
This is the only music that captures what it feels like to feel bereavement
It's not too loud, but not too soft.
It's just beautiful~
Going to see this at the royal opera house in London, never been to an opera before...I am so excited!
Carly Rose How did it go?
Please, tell us about your impressions!
I hope you enjoyed it. Stunning music!
I saw it in London last week! It was incredible
Echoed in Les Miserables "Bring Him Home". This chorus is sublime, perfect.
you mean plagiarized?
I use this for meditation during the day, 3 1/2 minutes, perfect for connecting to source
I sing it to my baby girl to put her to sleep
The most beautiful romantic opera. I saw it some years ago and it absolutely brought me to tears with its sheer beauty
I will have this played when I am passing to remember the ones I loved. It’s beautiful.
Peter Jackson played this on the sound stage while filming the Line of Durin's funeral on the Hobbit.
*tears*

"Something broke through the terror: flickerings, fragments of his short life. The random events that brought him to this, his moment of annihilation. When terror gave way to exhaustion, Babe turned to his attacker, his eyes filled with one simple question:""Why?"
+Nathaniel Anderson I will never be able to separate this music from that scene and I'm glad of that.
Beautiful movie

"God gave us our relatives: Thank God we can choose our friends."
-Ethel Watts Mumford
The few friends I have are priceless but, make no error of judgement, for I would glady trade those friendships for just a few precious moments with my children. I have no idea where they are, what they're doing or how they are doing.
Nevertheless, wherever they are, whatever they're doing I hope and pray they are doing well.
Damn it, I can't stop crying whenever I hear this part. Yeah pathetic I know :)
adyvlar adyvlar 6 years later if it still matters, neither can I.
If you're not crying by the end of this there's something wrong with you!
Not pathetic at all. (Though you did make this comment 9 years ago. So, chances are you know now that it isn't pathetic in the slightest)
Not pathetic - but natural :)
Not Pathetic at all. Puccini's operas all have that tug on the heart. Means you're human.

And then they both die in the cosmic spiderweb.
yeah, i'm here from there too.

Thanks for uploading this version. It was used in "Heavenly Creatures" and other versions just don't have the same haunting impact.
I have always loved Madame Butterfly and ALWAYS felt anger at Pinkerton each time I attend a performance. This beautiful piece of music ALWAYS makes tears come to my eyes. Thank you for posting it.
I often travel from Australia to Europe via Japan, with a few days in Tokyo on the return journey. Every time, in the departure lounge at Narita, I experience an overpowering nostalgia and sadness at leaving this first foreign country in which I spent any length of time. I have been known to weep in public. This chorus produces the very same effect. I love it!
un capolavoro awsoluto. una musica fra le più struggenti mai scritte al mondo
I always picture this tune with her waiting by the sea at dawn....
Extraordinaire! This has got to be one of the most beautiful moments in an opera. Magnificent!
Loved this tune for years never knew its name then I found it.so peaceful and tranquil
The perfect image for the perfect music.
So sad so sweet. In covid Times it Makes me feel better There si no time for this 🇮🇹
Hauntingly beautiful.
I first heard this while watching Mary and Max, I had no idea it was from a classic opera !!
This piece is like a window to all things beautiful
played this for my dad at his funeral. He always loved his opera
Going to see madam butterfly tomorrow at Billingham forum!! The humming song is my absolute favourite!!
This is the best and sweetest humming humans ever made! I can’t even begin to describe how happy this music makes me feel. I could cry! 😅When we find songs like this, we need to keep them close to our hearts ❤so that we can share them with others who need them. Or sit in peace alone with them!
Listening to this beautiful music, i feel like i am being hypnotised. It is so serene.
when you need to relax just sit back close your eyes and listen to this soulful piece of great opera music by one of the best composers of operatic music, yet again an Italian.
“God gave us relatives. Thank god we can choose our friends”

Just finished it, i never realized how much I could cry on a movie.. absolutely a masterpiece

'Heavenly Creatures' (1994) brought me here! Peter Jackson's masterpiece!
Just beautiful. My fav piece in this opera
Made me tearful when I saw the opera at Richmond Theatre!!
Amazing.I saw this live at thw albert hall in London that moment of them all apearing from behind me and all over the hall will be with me forever
Amazing
that dance that set s you free.... as a humming bird.... finding that flower...
Love the sound. So peaceful.. 💖
Such a beautiful piece of music, so emotive and sad but yet with a degree of optimism. How often we have felt like that and the results been similar (without the suicide). A calming yet evocative theme
This was on my must do list and to my great surprise our daughter took us to see it at the Edinburgh Playhouse, a wonderful experience I'll never forget
This piece is warm, calming, redeeming... I feel as though I have been forgiven for something I have carried for many years.
So beautiful in a soothing uplifting ethereal way - wish it was on a loop so I could go on listening much longer.
Just click on loop in settings 😊
Saw Madam butterfly at the Royal Albert Hall. In London.
What a wonderful experience.
This is my favourite opera.
Would suggest you see it.
The major opera singers came from Japan.
As you said absolutely heavenly.

Un genio total Puccini...
Wonderful! Connects with the gut!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow!!!!
To all those who have known love and loss !
Humans created this awe-inspiring genius. There was no help from the fairies. God give me strength
Heard this at someones wedding and fell in love with it.
Absolutely beautiful!! So, relaxing, so soothing to the ear. Many thanks and Kind regards Colyn.
this song is a banger! totally pumps me up for working out!!!
Beautiful. Lovely. Beautiful gilm. Perfect story. James Last plays this well also.......
Such a beautiful piece. But having first heard it in the film Heavenly Creatures, I can't help but feel a sense of foreboding because of that end scene.
This version of The Humming Chorus is absolutely fantastic. It really touched me. So harmonious and beautiful.
mary and max! i cry every time i listen to this because of that film :P
Spettacolo !
so so beautiful, seen the opera twice.
Ooooomg...every time I'am...without words...this is wonderful♥️💙🦋😗😍☺️😊
my son sent me this in a message never heard it before love it so beautiful
I remember it vividly. Cio cio San (Madam Butterfly) was looking across the horizon on the backdrop of the stage and a bright light was shining on her.
Moves me to tears.
"He smelled of liquorice and old books"
Yeah... :)
wow! what a discovery for me. I'd not even heard of this movie that you're quoting-- I looked up the quote, and thus the movie trailer. And now I want to watch it! :) Thanks!

"Mary and Max 2009"
himanv . . . you MUST watch it. So beautiful of a movie.
she thought to herself, as tears rolled from her eyes, the color of muddy puddles...
najlepsze wykonanie jakie słyszałam, dzięki
È una delle musiche più belle che possano appoggiarsi alle mie orecchie
Today our Queen was laid to rest and this music Totally sends shivers down the spine , really fitting for a day of remembrance and reverence. Awesone I love this. God bless you Queenie x
the quiet before the storm
I came here after Watch yesterday Mary and Max. That movie was so heartbreaking.
Beautiful melody and does something special within the opera. Still, I like it even better transformed into the song Dormi by Albano Carissi, because that is the version I have been listening to since childhood and I have loved the melody since (we had a CD with that song at home). When I finally went to see this opera one year at the university and heard this for the first time, that was a really strange experience. I had no idea where I knew the melody from :D Connecting this with the rather explosive singing in Dormi was definitely not the first thing that came to mind.
As an Italian, I can say Al Bano is well-known abroad (also in Italy, but we know him as a peculiar character… and his music is definitely not the best Italy's music…), despite his big lack in sophistication; he likes to be loud. I'm glad you discovered and enjoyed the original one.
@@giovannimoriggi5833 Yeah, agreed, "he likes to be loud" is a pretty accurate comment. I do not know that many of his songs, but he does seem to enjoy singing his lungs out in many of them. Anyway, that one CD where he sang classical tunes with lyrics got me to appreciate those melodies long before I got into classical music as a whole, so I owe him big thanks for that at least 😀 I enjoy those songs to this day, even though his singing technique or voice is not the best out there.
Yes, if nothing else he makes the effort to celebrate classical pieces. He stands out because he sings in the register of pop music, he's very good at it, I cannot mention Italian artists who do not take what they do seriously (at least, among those who have been successful in Italy first), but I felt the need to comment because he is one of the artists who's famous abroad, but whose quality is overrated in comparison to what is the real Italian level. In his original repertoire he has signature songs that are very beautiful as well as very famous, but I never liked his character! @@roose468

Una musica così dolce che trasporta la tua anima al settimo cielo.
magnifique cette choeur de dammes Puccini VIVA
" Bring him home" from Les Miserables.
And there was i thinking that I was the only person to hear this.
Back in the 1920s, Puccini sued Al Jolson for damages over a song he had written called " Avalon ' as the music is from the final act of " Tosca ". - Puccini won !
The title song to the musical " Paint Your Wagon " was lifted straight out of Act 1 of Puccini's ' Tosca '.
Just beautiful
Super! Thank you very much
