In this documentary Karina Vetrano went out for a jog one evening in her neighbourhood of Howard Beach, New York City. When she didn't return, searches began and later an investigation. This led to Chanel Lewis, a man who confessed but there has always been scrutiny about that.

The victim of an African savage beast with a black heart!!
And the guilt he might feel for not going with her that night. Jfc
Being a man, I could never imagine what the poor dad went through when he found her.
I think finding anyone u love so deeply would be traumatic. But yes, in a state like that knowing what they must have gone through would intensify that trauma significantly 😢
Jesus, I can’t even imagine the hell of that day for her father. He was already in pain, then he searched for his baby and found her body at 11pm. The thought of the horror, of the duality of the memory of how he would have held her when she was born and then when he found her at the end. Humanity is just the saddest thing imaginable.
The guilt this poor father must have wishing he could turn back the clock and go with her. Of course he shouldn’t feel guilty at all but as a parent you always blame yourself. And he had to find her like that?! I don’t know how I would cope.
I know! But this guy may have got her another time…I’ve only just started watching but this freak was probably a prowler and may have come across her again when she was alone. The dad must feel terrible though, I really can’t imagine.
I hope he has reminded himself often enough that he couldn't possibly have gone running with her that day. It's impossible to walk to the bathroom without significant difficulty and pain when those back attacks happen, and that simple thing takes forever to do. Not that I think it would help him get rid of the guilt all together, but repetitious reminders can help ease the guilt a little bit over time. An absolute nightmare!
The guy wouldn't make it to the courthouse.
Well, he does have a stupid accent right?
The only reason he should feel guilty, is if he had something to do with his daughters murder, but he didn't I hope he forgives himself for not being there, with his daughter...
The mom said what any parent would want to say in that moment. I couldn’t imagine her heartbreak 💔
The mother's anger is completely understandable and justified. The pain she feels is excruciating. The murder of a loved one is extremely difficult to deal with.
I totally agree. there is some other dickless piece of shii in the comments above saying her mom is insufferable and put on an embarrassing display. he must be a predator too if a grieving mother's speech to her child's murderer offends him!!

The mom... That's raw anger, sorrow and grief. I hope the family has some sort of closure though the pain will never go away.
This case has haunted me since it happened because I’m originally from that area and I couldn’t imagine something that horrible happening to my daughters. I hope her dad can find some peace. I really don’t know if I could.
It's almost like he was confessing to a different murder
People want to assume that people with special needs or learning disabilities aren’t capable of doing these type of things.
Exactly. That’s definitely not the case.
Who? Who likes to assume that. I think it's the opposite.
Yup. Meanwhile, crime statistics show otherwise
I honestly loved that mother’s speech. She meant every word. Kick ass mom right there
Hey Mike! I love your videos! I’ve been watching for some time. With all these sad cases you bring us, I’m sure it can get heavy sometimes. So I’m here to remind you that I hope you’re taking care of yourself in between filming and researching. Just saying this because well, we love ya. ❤

You do? Why? For reading stories while makimg non stop stupid faces? Ok. Get outside more. 😂
No matter how gruesome the crime, there's something chilling about hearing cheers after a convictions
You know what really bothers me? (That no one cares about except for those who strongly defend their position):
When people go on about how someone is gonna get prison justice from other prisoners... It just makes me sick that they advocate for even more evil acts to take place because some people believe being locked up isn't a strong enough punishment.
You ever notice that killers are always "kind, gentle people" according to someone
Well duh bro some people that have committed horrific crimes have always for the most part been just the average person where you wouldn't expect nothing like that from them so of course people are going to say they're kind and gentle people if that's the vibe that you got from them you can only go off of your own personal experiences so when they commit a horrific crime it is shocking
@dyoung12b cringe
Well ya..
The killers family and friends don't see that side most of the time....
So It would make sense
And the victims are usually "bubbly" with amazing smiles.
Well they are 90% of the time. It's just that 10% of the time is truly horrifying.
My family and I love your videos! I showed one of your videos to my parents last year, and they’ve been hooked ever since. Keep up the great work, Mike!
I can't believe an anonymous letter claiming he was innocent and set up didn't get him off!!!
His response to the questions was so casual and matter of fact. Later walking thro the crowd outside the court he looked happy. Perhaps he was relieved to be caught
I feel so horrible for her family 😔 Her mother's speach was epic AF and what any parent would say!🙌🏿 I know her father probably has guilt but its definitely not his fault in any way. I'm glad she put up a good fight and got evidence. Her poor dad finding her had to be absolutely traumatic and I hate that he had to see her that way. This man needs to be locked up forever and never let out SMH 😞 Rest in Paradise beautiful 🙏🏿❤️🕊️

It's surprisingly common in cases like this. To the point where people are starting to say black on black crime is actually white people wearing silicon masks to look like black people and attack them.
It sounds insane but there's actually quite a few black people who believe it, look it up, there's lots of them making videos on youtube.
Turning into a race issue is a disservice to everyone.
If there's a case that screams for the attention of the conviction integrity unit it's this one. Developing the suspect was some magical cop work. That's just one of many oddities

It's obvious where Karina gets her "force to be reconed with" spirit from. The man obviously went into hiding after hearing her speech and licking his wounds Karina fought with her life against. God bless her mother and rest in peace sweet angel.
Having lost an adult daughter, I have beat myself up for not trying harder to get her away from her husband. I can’t imagine how how Mr. Vetrano must feel and then to be the one who found her. Everyone tells me it’s not my fault so I hope he gets encouragement like that. I hope he has found a good way to cope, because things like this can lead to your death as a parent. He admitted to it, had to go to hospital the next day for hand injuries, has a past of being angry at women in particular AND had been researching the case daily and seeing what would happen if he got caught…guilty
Yeah, sorry. I'm someone who actually looks into recovered black boxes out of curiosity and I'm saying that he got way too close to this case. If I started buzzing over one specific plane crash and that was regularly something I'd be involved in, people would reasonably start to doubt my hobby is so innocent.
Good instinct to have, btw. I just like graphs and numbers. Fear those who want more to do with, yknow, -people-.
Love the way you tell these stories, so entertaining. You should do an episode on a girl named Megan McDonald. She was murdered in 2003 in upstate NY and it went unsolved for 20 years. They just made an arrest in earl 2023. My wife was friends with her and I'd love to hear your take on it.
I am from that area where she was found. She was one year older than me but many of my friends knew her. I would love it if Mike would cover her case.
this happened a few miles from where i live. i never even knew they solved the case; just always worried heavily about ever returning to the area. i hope karina’s family has been & continues to be surrounded by nothing but love.
So you lived there and you didn't know they caught him? Of course not. He wasn't White. Sad but true.
Man the moms speech is on point!!! Everything she said I second
I got teary eyed and yelled HELL YEAH at her mother's speech. Powerful.
Her mom's speech gave me chills. Wow. She's amazing
I LOVE how her mother addressed the news. I hope mom and dad are able to find peace and happiness again. I honestly wonder though if he was even physically capable of overpowering her so easily. He looks extremely weak and I'd have to see undeniable proof.
This one is a tough one to watch and it’ll haunt me forever. I think about Karina on almost a daily basis when heading out for my daily run. Since learning of this case, I have been more vigilant of my surroundings, only wear one ear bud, and I always have pepper spray in my hand in the ready to spray position. It is incredibly unfortunate that so many women feel unsafe when running in their own communities. However, we have to deal with it, and make sure that we are prepared for the worst no matter what. RIP KARINA🤍♥️
Please stay safe!

How her father could hold himself together and stay strong for his family after being the one to find his daughter is astounding.
Praise to her family but praise to her mother!! Saying what she needed to say with no filter and full of emotion and feeling. I couldn’t imagine what I would be saying or doing if this happened to a friend or family member, let alone a daughter. She is a strong woman and I send my thoughts to this poor woman’s friends and family and my condolences!
So let me get this straight, his DNA matched, he went and got a tooth removed from his hand the day after the murder, his phone was pinged at the location, he was google searching the murder right away, and he confessed, but people wanted to believe he hadn't done it!? Strange times we are living in.
I agree.
Only the water part of his confession doesn't add up.
It's typical to pull race card in 2024 when ur a minority perp and victim is white. When you pull race, all the activist groups spring into action to throw mud on the victims and the case, regardless of facts
@@333-u9o sure, I mean he's special, he didn't have a perfect recollection, doesn't even remotely begin to disprove all of the smoking gun evidence against him. I mean real mic drop stuff. The fact that anyone convinces themselves that monster is innocent infuriates me.
@@333-u9o He could have gotten multiple crimes confused? When he thought they mentioned something about a spillway he pushed himself back in the chair and it made him anxious and angry. This may not be his first crime like this. If you put them in water there wouldn't be much DNA if any left.
The defence went to the Oj playbook, I also think the police should look in to who wrote that letter, my guess would be either one of Chanel's family or an activist group who think he's innocent.
His DNA under her finger nails, his search history after murder, and his cell phone pinging on that tower are convincing enough

I remember, when I was in my 20s, I read a novel where it opened with a woman going jogging alone. And being attacked.
It gave her point of view, of contending with being momentarily breathless from the jogging, putting her at a disadvantage that her killer had likely preyed on.
And over the years, when I hear of lone female joggers being attacked, I remember that fictional victim.

This story just breaks my heart... and I have personal experience that happened when I was in university: a girl from my dorm disappeared off of a bike path while training for the NY Marathon, later found dead. Didn't know her, never met her... at the age of 17 it was a bucket of cold water on the head regarding the reality of life in this sick, sad world.
(I am surprised to hear that only 92% of women worry about their safety while running. I hope the other 8% are MMA warrior women.)
Thank you, Mike, for so much insight into who Karina was. She sounded like a bright, compassionate young woman and I can't imagine the depths of grief her family must still feel.
