    I noticed you’ve installed the impeller in the opposite direction compared to when it was removed. I do appreciate your video, as this helped me understand the sequence of the gaskets.

      @@BigIslandMNMinnetonka It definitely does - I have the gen 2 Alpha stern drive. It looks like the take-apart is easier compared to the gen 1 - just the 4 bolts and the 5th above the prop. Does that seem correct? I don't see the extra Allen bolts as shown in your video for the gen 1.

    This is an excellent video EXCEPT you can NEVER use marine grease anywhere near the impeller itself, as it will break down the material. Inly use silicone based lube in water pump and associated areas. Mercruiser Service Bulletin.

    It is so easy to move the little spline , and then have it not align with upper shifter channel , the only way to make sure , is to lay down under outdrive take a flashlight and see if they are lined up straight and propeller is locked in forward.(counter-clockwise)

    That’s soooo difficult to install the impeller that way. By forcing it in. The proper way to install it is to put the impeller on the shaft first and simply rotate shaft clockwise while pushing upper down on it. Just a little tip for next time.

    The best way to put the impeller on is.
    First put all your gaskets etc on. Then put your key on, then slide the impeller down onto the key, and then put your housing on. That's the way they do it in service shops.

  • @jammi__
    @jammi__ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The correct way to install the impeller is to place it on the shaft first along with the key, then push down the housing while you rotate the shaft. It's quick and easy, and how both the manual says to do it as well as how any professional does it. Somehow on these youtube videos you do it the hard way for no good reason.

    Will that cause water not to be sucked up

    • @BigIslandMNMinnetonka
      @BigIslandMNMinnetonka  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      100% yes. The impeller is what sucks water up which is vital to cooling the motor. You 100% need it. They should be replaced every 2 to 4 years.

    • @BigIslandMNMinnetonka
      @BigIslandMNMinnetonka  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      A bad impeller, bad water seal , warped impeller or grovred housing from sand, weeds or mud can get sucked in. Lots of things can stop water from getting in.

      @@BigIslandMNMinnetonka Well I think I have good news. The boat started right up with the with the muffs on with the hose turned on. I ran it in gear forward and backward at about 12-13 RPMs - no grinding or gear noise. the temperature did not go up. It was overheating to over 240 last trip when we found the oil vent plugs missing. Then I put it in Idle and ran the throttle at about 15 RPMs for quite a while 180° is in the very middle of the thermostat gauge it got to 220 and stay there

    • @BigIslandMNMinnetonka
      @BigIslandMNMinnetonka  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I recommend replacing it. If the rubber is old and a fin breaks your motor will over heat. It's not worth risking it cause the damage that a over heat could cause

    • @BigIslandMNMinnetonka
      @BigIslandMNMinnetonka  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The gen 1 is less forgiving and you are more likely to break a fun. The rubber gets garland doesn't seal at well also
