They had three in 1982 when they still had *Texas* and took *Search For Tomorrow* off CBS’s hands when they no longer wanted it (just as they would do for ABC’s *Taxi* in primetime the same year).
DAN REGION was a great announcer on AS THE WORLD TURNS letting him go was the start of a long down hill slide for AS THE WORLD TURNS. and also not getting to see closing credits go across the TV screen not seeing closing credits crawl across the screen was also the beginning of the long down hill slide for GUIDINGLIGHT.
Not seeing the credits had nothing to do with the downhill slide of both soaps. Every show stopped showing full credits around the year 2000. Furthermore, the firing of Dan Region had nothing to do with the downhill slide of ATWT, as much as I love Dan Region. The death of Douglas Marland is what sealed ATWT's fate.
Dan Region probably had to mention the preemption. But I can tell you from having dealt with him once that he's one heck of a nice guy. He let me use an article he wrote about his trip to Gettysburg in my classes and was very much interested in the fact that I teach history. I wish he'd gotten more announcing work after Procter & Gamble dismissed him from "ATWT."
I remember emailing him, and even tweeting at him on occasion. He was taken aback at how much I loved his announcing days at ATWT. He definitely is a true gent. I was so sad when they let him go in 1998.
Does anybody have closing credits of As the World Turns from the late 80s-early 90s with a wedding photo in the background in lieu of the usual animation of the earth rotating? It was from the days when the theme music was "The World Turns On and On." If anybody has it, can they please upload it?
In SE PA, until mid September 1995 it was on WCAU (Channel 10) and then it was on KYW (aka CBS3) for the remainder of its run (CBS & NBC were playing musical network affiliates so WCAU going forward became known as NBC10).
Wondering what the preemption was? Guessing it was for the US Open, which CBS used to carry every Labor Day (locally was preempted for the Jerry Lewis telethon).
Checking out the cast credits since there's a minister and wedding musicians am wondering who was getting married. I'm wagering that it was Lisa getting married since Grant Colman was in the credits. He had actually left the show in 1981, getting fed up with the drama of Lisa & Joyce butting heads over him (what can you expect with a handsome dude who's an attorney?) The last straw was when a partially reformed Joyce cooked up a scheme of having a terminal growth on her brain, causing him to propose to remarry her (most likely out of sympathy). Lisa, knowing that Joyce tended to be a schemer just like she was in the old days but with a neurotic, nutty twist, eventually ferreted out the truth - and I suspect Lisa still had the hots for Grant even though they divorced.
Stay tuned for Guiding Light next on most of these CBS stations.
I was so addicted to cbs soaps in the 80s. Like a bad 💉 😀
NBC only had one soap opera with Procter and Gamble Productions. 2:00.

I once wrote Dan Region a letter and he sent me a beautiful picture of him with a letter I'll never forget him
What was the letter about?
I don’t know why this theme’s my favourite!
I like this closing because of the trumpet coming in
My absolute favourite!
Love this theme...captures the essence of the soap opera

That was awfully nice of Dan Region to mention a preemption.
I always like the way he would word the preemption
When Was This?
It was his job. He didn’t make up the announcements. They were scripted.
Dan Region was also an announcer for the CBS Schoolbreak Specail

He didn't deserve to be let go!
@@TheDeadmanRules That’s true. It was a cost cutting move.
Money undoubtedly used as hush money for Les Moonves’ predatory behavior.
As the World Turns is a Procter & Gamble Production in association with the CBS Television Network.

Seth came back many times over the years for various short term visits.
