Sometimes you want to keep the color scheme of your vehicle; with me, this was my goal. I took three Motorola antennas with chrome lock-nuts and painted them black to match my vehicle's color. It is not a difficult procedure, but make sure you use paint that is metal-free.
Stephen, wondering how you determined your paints were "metal-free." That super long list of ingredients on all the cans in the store is intimidating. Maybe I need to take a large magnifying glass in the store and spend some laborious time "in research," hi. My task is to tame the shiny aluminum on a couple of antennas to make them more stealth...to next door neighbors, and the HOA!
The Krylon black is metal-free per the SDS. However, it does contain carbon black, which is electrically conductive, but is no more than 1% by mass. I doubt it has any effect on performance as the whip is solid steel.... Of course, proof is in the pudding, and I hope Steve can confirm.
