The album These Days has my FAVORITE song by them. My Guitar Lies Bleeding In My Arms... the build, and the guitar just explodes in such an EPIC way. SHOULD have been a hit single!
David Bryan is classically trained and he had been accepted at Juilliard before he joined the band, I doubt he didn't notice... great video, thank you!
The first album that I recieved at 10 years old was Bon Jovi "These Days". I loved Ritchie Sambora's playing and still do. Not a lot of poeple mention him.
I'm a huge Bon Jovi fan and have listened to Wanted Dead or Alive thousands of time but I never noticed that! You have a really good ear! I honestly never knew that part was even a keyboard, I never knew what it was and assumed it was a muted guitar or something.
it is foreshadowing.. and it does add tension... it's literally the definitional of tension, and it releases two seconds later.. there's only one word for it.. GENIUS. I bet Sambora rubber stamped it.
Yeah man, this is great, Keep the faith solo, pure air guitar heaven! I saw Jovi in 89 & 93, i dig everything from the first album up to Faith. Not so much after, few songs here & there. Anyway, Sambora blew my ass away both concerts, i love Wanted, & i never noticed that before & in all honesty mate, it doesnt put me off, the song itself is a gift from the gods, music of champions !!! Wonderful playing pal. Cheers

I noticed that Wanted Dead or Alive part as a teenager and it bothered me too. And I went the similar route as your Keyboard player. "Maybe the wanted foreshadow the majtor that is coming after the minor." 😂 Awesome video. That Dead or Alive bit had me dying laughing. 😂 BTW. another Bon Jovi/Sambora bangers are "Hey God" and "If I Was Your Mother." Those have me banging every time!
Ha! :D As an autistic musician and a huge Richie Sambora fan, I noticed this a long time ago. I'm glad I'm not the only one. :D BTW, This movie is fantastic, funny, and informative. I've already liked and subscribed! Keep up the great work!!
This video came on my TH-cam feed this morning and I’ve already watched it about 3-4 times. You cracked me up talking about the dissonant notes in Wanted. That’s guitar is awesome, by the way. In fact, after I watched this video, I went looking for a video on that guitar. Found it as soon as I went to your channel. Cool stuff. Your story about stepping away from music for a while and coming back to it is inspiring. I’m getting back to playing after a couple of years. 👍🏼
These Days was quintessential Sambora. Each song highlighted his skill and versatility. If JBJ left, and the band played on... I think These Days would have been the direction they took rather than the outlier.
I love the These Days album, it‘s more melancholic than the rest of their other stuff… beside that I think that Keep the Faith is more versatile and prime BJ…in the end nothing beats Dry County… imho…😎
I never even noticed there was a piano in that part hehe But anyway, Ritchie is a hell of a guitar player. It took me a while to give him a chance, but once I started paying attention to his playing, I was hooked.
ben, stay tuned! With your skills and the incredibly ingenious covers, the subscribers will definitely come along gradually, I'll do a lot of advertising for you to my friends in Austria! Keep on rocking 🙌
Holy moly man, I'm a minute into the video and Sambora is one of the reasons I picked up guitar. The 1995 Wembley video is what turned me onto guitar. People don't really know about Sambora, not even guitarists. Sad that he fell off a cliff (not literally) and became a drunken joke but from 85-98 he was a beast.
@@DaBaronSamedi Pretty much every solo on that video is memorable, Dry County is obviously up there. He was untouchable then. Such a shame how his form took a nose-dive post 95.
Have you guys seen him live in recent years? He was epic at the O2 supporting Bad Company... truly incredible singer ... Fun fact... Sambora and Eric clapton play together on the song Mr Bluesman from Sranger in This Town
Richie is such a tasty player, for me one of the best intros is “Damned” from These days, it’s like a groove/funk rock intro, sounds like a tele too. You seem familiar by the way, did you demo guitars for a shop years ago, think they’ve go out of business now!?
Thanks for bringing this up! I've never noticed it, and still, it sounds good to me (though it probably shouldn't) 😅 Might just have been a happy accident. I always loved how they played with D minor and major, leaving it open to your imagination in parts of the verse.
If you like the Keep The Faith solo I respectfully point you towards the Damned solo from the These Days album. Similar vein I reckon. Similar vibe, tempo, style and whatnot. Hands down one of my favourite solos of all time. Absolutely blistering stratocaster magic and often overlooked.
I think the key board was thinking in doing an intro for the next part which is mayor, but you’re right, Ritchie is still in minor! Never noticed it until now, in my head is like a “new” mayor song is entering on one side while the minor intro is finishing on the other, sor of… Well spotted! Wish I had your ear talent…
Nice to hear someone hearing things nobody else seems to hear. I also have that 'problem'. Ever noticed that in the intro of Summer of '69 there seems to be a bass playing along at a very low volume. You hear it best when the chords change. Jim Vallance told me it's 2 guitars. But I know that sometimes producers add little querks to the mix to make it sound special.
Makes me glad i cant tell a semi quaver from a packet of quavers.. i did know the bit you mentioned and to me it sounds like its in the right place. I often wonder what it is like to be a musician when listening to music you must pick up all the mistakes etc.. i am envious but also glad of my ignorance 😂... I guess i can always be a singer or a bass player 😂😂
Dry County for me no contest. Amazing amazing solos and such genius. Wanted was the reason I picked up a guitar after buying Keep the Faith album and falling in love with that and bed of roses intro too. Sambora is a god
Richie es un virtuoso guitarrista y ha hecho contribuciones a la música por su estudio sobre las escalas pentatónicas... Slash jamás ha contribuido con algo...
Never noticed that dissonance, after all these years. So many highlights of his playing and singing. Ballad of Youth was a favourite of mine. Another is the lesser-known BJ track Homebound Train. His guitar work in there is killer. The band could actually jam!
If you haven't checked out Richie Sambora's first solo album, "Stranger in This Town", definitely check it out, it's really good. I always wanted to ask Jon Bon Jovi how it felt to be the second best singer in his band.
As a major Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora maniac, I have to say 1) I didn't notice it until now, but 2) I still don't hear it, I hear the parts you talk about, but to my ear they are interweaved, they don't overlap into that dissonance, the notes are falling with an offset and it doesn't sound off. Also, 3) I have noticed a different thing in this song, for as long as I can remember, but I won't give it away for now :D I'll just give you a hint: have you notice the main riff (which is also the intro with those 3rds) is not always played the same and that there is one particular point where small note sequence is reversed? :D
I guess to us it does stand out but it was absolutely intentional. David spoke about this about 10 yrs ago and John liked the sound. Richie was neutral about it
I’ve never listened to Bon Jovi, now I listened to this moment and at a speed of 0.25 you can clearly hear that the second note creates dissonance, you’re right)
Richie for me is the ultimate musician … I love the fact he was a master of all but his guitar playing was just an example of a true player without all the crap that comes with being a guitar player nowadays …. Everyone can sweep pick etc but when you put soulful playing into a hit song with melody then surly Richie is the winner here ?? 90s Richie was the pinnacle , just go back to the Wembley concert and listen and watch his performance…. Who the hell does that anymore? Man I wish was born bit earlier to witness that
Well spotted, one of the coolest wee musical moments on the record and harmonically the wrongest thing they could have played. But who cares when it sounds that cool
Hilarious. I've done similar in the past, by pointing out to people that there probably/might be something unintentional going on on a particular track, but die hard fans refuse to accept it. Doesn't matter though does it. Many of my favourite tracks have their flaws, if you analyse them closely enough. I couldn't care less, and I'd probably hate it if someone went in there and 'fixed' them. PS, I play Wanted... In my band, and absolutely love performing that one.
I love your channel! It's like you are reading my mind when you are commenting on some songs (like Ritchies singing must have been an annoyance for Mr Jovi!). I only wish you did a little more teaching. Some licks and techniques... Love from a snowy Sweden.
Every time I watch this Ex-Special Forces guy I fear he’s going to tear thru my tablet’s screen and pummel me into runny liquid for being a pathetic 60yo bedroom guitarist. Luv for Sambora who playing Live, did his best Al DiMeola impression on the Ovation acoustic as an intro to ‘Wanted’.
It prob soumds worse to you being trained in scales , sounds fine to me as it doesn't stop and emphasise like you do , it just sounds kwirky , I'm sure they liked it enough to leave in
A very underated Sambora solo/Lick is the outro solo of Someday I'll Be Saturday Night. That lick is so in the pocket with those Tico Torres drums fills. Perfect fit melodic and rythm
Your technical skills are second to none, but I'd really love it if you'd slowed down once in a while and demonstrated a more melodic soloing style. Otherwise, it becomes something like MAB - I remember hearing his solo album back in the early nineties and initially I've thought "holy crap, that's awesome", but then it became more like "wtf, that song is a bit too long", and then I realized it was a third or fourth song - they were all the same with constant shredding which reminded me of a neighbour drilling something in the walls of his apartment at 7 am on Sunday morning... Anyways, cool stuff, but please, please, play some slower stuff as well :)
Lol I never noticed that at all. I was too obsessed with guitar to notice the keyboard coming in 😆 I think you now have spoilt that part Of the song for me 😂
Listening now, it is clear and now I can’t un-hear it😭 Eric Clapton, Layla, at like 1:45, beginning of the second chorus you can hear his mic cut out for a split second! I wonder if anyone else ever noticed that? Cheers🎸
Ritchie always played exactly what the song needed, not enough players do.
Great job Ben👍
indeed, that's an underrated skill!
absolutely...even though he had the skills to just shred away he wrote melodies that were memorable and fit the song
The album These Days has my FAVORITE song by them. My Guitar Lies Bleeding In My Arms... the build, and the guitar just explodes in such an EPIC way. SHOULD have been a hit single!
My fav Sambora solo is in Church of Desire from his first solo album. Very underrated!
100% Stranger In This Town is a forgotten gem and Church Of Desire is the best song on there with arguably his best solo.
Man what a record that is... one of my top 10.
Agree! And “Rosie”
All of his solos albums are so brilliant!
Completely agree. His best guitar work.
The rage, the energy, the tone from those records made me a guitar fan back when I was a teenager.Sambora and Nuno where my heroes
David Bryan is classically trained and he had been accepted at Juilliard before he joined the band, I doubt he didn't notice... great video, thank you!
You are a beast player and I never would have picked you as a Richie fan.....the aggression and passion in each note is infectious to watch.!
Richie is so underrated, such a great player with amazing intuition for killer lines. Dry County is top solo.
The first album that I recieved at 10 years old was Bon Jovi "These Days". I loved Ritchie Sambora's playing and still do. Not a lot of poeple mention him.
As my guitar lies bleeding in my arms solo is phenomenal

Yeah, always wondered if that was a miss .. exactly 1:44 .. I never could undo it either :)
I couldn’t hear that part, played it back 4 times !!!!!!!
This is amazing I'm laughing my ass off. Keep em coming, dude, your breakdowns and stories are top shelf.
😂😂😂😂😂😂 this vid is awesome. Love the comedy with music virtuosity!
Never Ever Once! Now I can't "unhear" it!!! lol
I never noticed that in Wanted Dead or Alive, but I have noticed that Ritchie doesn't get enough love. Great video; thank you!

Same thing in the chorus of I’ll Wait
vocal note is a minor third, keyboard is a major third on the word wait
i love the ramble!
Man you nail it.
Damned is epic live! Love that
Dry county live from London also
@ yes!!! I was there and he was unbelievable! Also they played it in the O2 in 2009 ish? Was there for that too. Just mindblowing
no had not noticed that in the song but evert time you played it made me laugh.dont know why but it did.
Just found you. Very inspiring. Liked and subscribed 👍
You're a monster player and bloody hilarious! 🔥😆
Thank's now I'll hear it everytime, nightmares will come for sure haha!
You play like a beast! 🤘

Sambora melhor guitarrista de todos os tempos sem dúvida nenhuma
Holy mish-mash of influences! 0:28 Ty Taybor. 0:39 Michael Angelo Batio. 0:41 Zakk Wylde for the win. How did I do?
Ty is one of the most underrated guitarists I’ve ever heard - so melodic and just the right amount of technique

can't unhear it now.....
Did the keyboard player David Bryan come up the slash fall to pieces riff?!!!
It’s the same arpeggio that Slash does in Velvet Revolver “Falling to Pieces”.

yeah I could hear it but I always thought it was a nylon string acoustic/classical guitar
Good ramble.
it doesn't really clash though because a minor and a major third sounding together is fairly common in blues music.
Never noticed the keyboard until today
played 10000000 of times never tought about it...
This guy eats guitar strings for breakfast with a sprinkle of picks on top..
Will have to notice from now on lol
