- The Man of Steel, The Last Son of Krypton, Supes: call him what you like. It couldn't be more offensive than the slew of dreadful Superman games he has starred in over the years. After ranking all of Batman's video game outings, we thought Superman would provide a similar range of quality. It turns out, however, that not only has he been in far fewer titles but almost all of them are rubbish! So buckle up because, with an emphasis on the "WORST", here is Every Superman Game Ranked From Worst To Best!

The fact that Superman 64 is at the bottom of this list proves how legendary it is.

It would actually be terrifying if superman 64 wasn’t at the bottom of this list. Because it would mean that there is something worst out there.
yea the game was so bad, I stop fuccing with supe and start rocking with goku, Superman Returns(film) brought got him back in the circle and MOS(film) permanence in my circle, DragonBall almost fell out cause of evolution but once I went thru the 5 stages with that shit, I decided that in no way has any relation to the series

being the absolute worst at something its really quite the accomplishment, its like being the best but backwards
I actually remember having fun as a kid with the superman returns game. It's probably the best template that we have for a genuinely great superman game.
I really would love a new Superman game like that one but isn't rushed so they have time to make a good game.

1 - Superman Punches and grabs. He almost never kicks. But he grabs alot. It could be done.
2 - He shoots laser from his eyes. How this would be visually in a First person game? In the way that not interfere in the gameplay?
But yeah, It would be simple mechanics but efficient. It could really work! :D

Superman desperately needs to get a good game made by a team that have a lot of clear love for the character like Rocksteady for Batman or Insomniac for Spider-Man
As a Batman fan and a Superman fan and a Zack Snyder fan at the sametime, I'm planning to do sth with my fellows from game industry with UE5 to establish a project about restoring Zack's DCEU in next-gen game media. We plan to make a demo and a teaser in 2 years.

It's between X-Men Mutant Academy series, and the X-Men Legends series. Also the 2 games that were on Sega.
Xmen destiny would have to be one of the worst.
The x-men for the nes has to be one of the worst games ever made and Ljn has to be one of the worst dev teams in existence.

Glad that Superman Returns was the best actual Superman game on this list. I'll admit, the game is actually really fun. You're flying around Metropolis saving people and protecting the city. Any missions are handled by Mr. Mxyzptlk, so that's a neat villain integration
Superman needs a huge breakthrough in the videogame scene, he has so much potential.
(I bet Henry Cavill would be open to voice the character considering his love for gaming)
They need to finally embrace how strong he is and stop trying to nerf him. Spider-Man, Batman, Hulk, they all got fun games because the devs leaned into the things that make them great. Just put Superman up against ridiculously powerful villains and alien invasions and let the player do crazy things. Just go full world of cardboard
@@THNF89 The reason Spider-man and Batman's recent games are so beloved was the passion and dedication behind them. Rocksteady and Insomniac went above and beyond to release those games in such quality.
It is doable, it really comes down to the dev team's passion and dedication to Superman as an IP.
@@ZaronNitro definitely. I remember watching a video about the development of Spider-man 2 for the PS2, the guy who came up with the web swinging system did it on his own time and basically begged them to include it in the game. All it takes is someone with a good idea and the passion to pursue it
@@THNF89 I think I've seen that video (although, it was a while ago). Spider-Man 2's web-swinging was - and still is - revolutionary, I honestly spent hours constantly swinging through New York just to enjoy the sensation. I still do the same with the new PS4/PS5 Spider-man games.
I'm sure if a Superman game is made today, it's flight system would be at the same level of quality.

Atari 2600's Superman is still the only game where I've seen a helicopter fly around in a sewer. There was a satellite in there sometimes, too.
I spent most of my life thinking that there weren’t any 3D open Superman games. When I discovered Superman returns, I freaked out and ordered it for my ps2 immediately. Loved every second, though the game does have tons of flaws.

A good Superman game is absolutely possible to this day. The framework is literally right in front of them. All they need is a good story to get it started and base a game around that.
Superman 64 has to be number 1 it's legendary.
I was worried there for a minute. When they allowed educational games. I was scared something might be better than Superman 64.

My thoughts exactly. I dunno where they get some of these dates from. Diablo 1 was 97, Diablo 2 was 2000 and Justice League Heroes was 2006. Maybe they got 97 confused with 07. Also, X-Men Legends had already been out for 2 years by the time Justice League Heroes released so it wasn't even the first "Diablo with superheroes." Oh well, the TJ boys do their best
Fun fact: Though Justice League Heroes had nothing to do with influencing Diablo, Justice League Task Force absolutely did. Diablo would not exist without that game.

This is Triple Jump. Their lists always have at least one easily avoidable flaw when they attempt to cover retro titles.
I can't tell whether it's intentional or not.
They proudly put up a video once, where they mock NES games and treat giving them like torturing their victim.
And not the bad games, either. Little Nemo was designed by sadomasochists who live for children's tears, but if you enjoy difficult platformers that aren't designed to just make cruel jokes at your expense, there's a lot to recommend.
But they couldn't tell. It came with a generic NES clone, and so they assumed it must be just as bad as the system that housed it.

Did you really say that Justice League Heroes came out a year before Diablo? Diablo came out in '96 I believe, while the XBox and PS2 weren't around until '01 and '00 respectively. Wtf?

Someone saw the final digit and disregarded the first three.
I wonder if the makers of Superman 64 had any idea at the time that early 80s Superman games would still outshine their monstrosity.
Fun Fact: Sunsoft were planning to release a Superman game for the NES. It was somewhat similar to their game released on the Sega systems. Two leaked roms exist, with a later rom replacing the Superman licence with a original character called Sunman. The latter version was closest to completion, but was cancelled at the last minute. You can find rom hacks of the more complete Sunman version that restores Superman. Although, the game itself was rather average at best from what I hear.
Which is sad... because sunsoft didn't suck at making games.
What Diablo game is being referenced? Original Diablo came out in 96, Diablo 2 in 2000.

Wait a sec, did I miss the Lego Batman 2 and 3 entries in this rundown? Not only is the character fun to play and comes complete with most of Superman’s actual powers but you also get John Williams’ iconic theme music whenever you take to the skies. Surely this counts under your rules..?
I am guessing they were disqualified due to falling under the Lego Batman brand. I never understood the branding of those sequels, I always thought they should've dropped Batman & released them as Lego DC Justice League games. It took them until 2018's Lego DC Super-Villains to drop the Lego Batman branding.

At 19:32 you say the “1998” game. This was released in 1988 and just happens to be my favorite Superman game of them all. Maybe because I grew up playing it in the arcade and have many fond memories of it.
Death and return was good. Great graphics and sfx and even though it was repetitive it was always fun. There were also small differences among the characters in terms of special moves and strike combos, but the principles for each were the same. Underrated.
Not gonna lie, I'm probably going to play that Superman Sudoku game...

As a lifelong Superman fan, I’ve always been dying to see a game comparable to Batman’s Arkham series. Maybe someday… but the realist in me doubts it’ll ever happen.
Yeah sadly unless you're Batman or Spider-Man, getting a game at all let alone a good game is rare.
I guess X-men/Wolverine have a good amount of decent games. Hulk has like one good game out of a total of 3 games. Unless I'm forgetting something I think every other comic book hero falls on a scale of having no games, having bad games, and or having mediocre games.

I love that you did this, and I respect all the work that goes into it (a definite thumbs-up! 😀), but it kind of hurts my heart that you didn't include the actual best game with Superman in its title: The Multipath Adventures of Superman. Within months of Superman 64, it did Telltale games before Telltale Games did Telltale games.
I also respectfully disagree that the 2600 game is so low. It's a horrible gaming experience here and now, but it really did bring a lot of new things to videogames in general. The pause feature was just the tip of the iceberg.

Okay, considering the track record of Superman games, I'm really curious about this list.
I can't believe Lego Batman 2 isn't on this list! Yes, it's technically a batman game! But you can fly Superman around the open world and the theme song plays in the background! So, in my opinion, it's also a Superman game!
I actually liked the Xbox Superman, but I genuinely loved Shadow of Apokolips. Now I’m hoping Injustice 3 brings back a good guy Superman. At least for the multiverse, have a good Superman to play as.

They didn't remove arcade mode in Injustice 2, they just made it a pain in the ass to find for first timers. For some silly reason it's tucked away in the Multiverse labeled as the "Battle Simulator" and no I cannot begin to fathom why.
Literally Arkham with henchmen being intergang, robots from luthor and toyman, kryptonians from the phantom-zone with a low amount of solar-power (and like a dozen others I could mention).
You know the quickfire gadgets in batman? Same thing with superman with heat vision and arctic breath but then there's another set with left trigger instead of right, with physical moves like Ground smash, tornado spin, sonic clap, and throw.
Skill tree could allow for enhancements like tornado spin makes an actual tornado affecting a larger vacinity, another upgrade would have him throw it.
Oh you think I forgot about special-combo moves? Ice-block stun, multi-blast heat vision to quickly stun a bunch of guys, throw a piece of the ground, and the last one would be heat vision and arctic breath at the same time, which would insta-kill.
You could chain together moves like tornado spin and heat vision to get more guys with one attack, and all of this is founded on the idea that better moves cost more solar meter.
Solar meter is a logical nerf since he can exhaust his body of it in comics if he uses too much power too quickly.
Furthermore a skill tree could also affect the special combo moves like the move where you rip up ground and throw it? If you hold the buttons, costing more solar-meter, he rips ground (earthquaking to protect himself with a shockwave) and lifts it so as to erupt ground in a forward-moving trail. This would be one of various attacks that bounce enemies, further integrating flight into the combat.
It says a lot to the quality and amount of superman games when;
1. The whole video is under half an hour
2. They had to include education games and justice League games
3. They struggled to say anything good about the entries until it was into the top 10
4. Even before watching it I predicted that the 2 injustice games would be top

Superman has the same problem in games he has in films... He's so ungodly OP that he's hard to make a game/film around. We can only see Kryptonite so many times. How do you make an engaging property about someone too powerful to be hurt? I don't want to call Supe's boring, but threat dictates interest and if someone is perceived to not have any viable threats people will mostly find them uninteresting.
So if we ever want an AMAZING Superman film/game... he's going to need to be nerfed, or they're going to have to introduce a threats that makes Superman seem inadequate.

not all superman movie are bad. the reeves movies (1 &2) and superman returnes are some great superman movies by the critics.

Would it be possible for you to do a top 10 video on the top 10 games that go overboard with their spinoffs like with Persona or Final Fantasy, I personally love both game series but it can get confusing and ridiculous trying to figure out all the lore after awhile 😂😂😂

I played hours upon hours of Superman Atari as a kid. Superman Returns Xbox 360 was an underrated game.
Was purely here to make sure Superman: The Game was properly represented. I think you did a decent job. That game definitely taught me a lot about how to keep track of where a line would bounce if hitting multiple angles along the way, which, well, is clearly as Superman as it gets

Perfect! Format, jokes, material top banana! Superman games ranked from legendary crrrrapppp to wild card, but what else to do with Superman.
I love death and return of superman it may not have a multi-player but the action and collision detection is crisp unlike say LJN's maximum carnage which is choppy as hell and sound effects are crackling sticks.

The fact that a movie tie-in game is considered the best solo Superman game really says a lot about this character's luck with videogames.
I hope he eventually gets a good game experience,though it would be a very hard task considering how OP he is,a Metropolis open world game would be kind of pointless if you can just explore the entirety of it in a few seconds because of how fast his flying is,i feel a linear game would be the best way to properly adapt his abilities into videogame format.
And even then they said it's a good framework for a superman game. It just needs to be put into a better game.
Well that was the case for Spider man for a long time. Spider man 2 tie ingame was considered the best Spider man game for nearly 20 years until the PS4 Spider man came along

The 2600 game is apparently misunderstood to you much like E.T. is to most people. Take Luthor’s henchmen to jail and repair the bridge. Pretty easy really and a rather advanced game for the 2600 at the time. The Sears version is rather rare and pricey.

Technically Injustice 2 didn't remove the arcade mode, it just awkwardly hid it in the online multiverse mode....which is really really weird and clunky.

It's baffling that Superman never got a good dedicated game, considering his popularity and how long he's been around. The closest he ever comes is being part of an ensemble cast like Injustice or the Lego games. All things considered, it feels so unlikely that in all these years and after so many attempts, no one was able to produce something that isn't mediocre at best, it's almost impressive.

Well, look at the bright side, Superman's videogame career should at least inspire people to think about why he doesn't make for a good playable character, or even why educational games suck. ^^
