A few months back, I made the decision to quit kratom. While I still support its use and believe it helps a lot people, I needed to stop taking kratom to address some underlying issues and to see what my baseline was without kratom in my system. My process of getting off kratom was more intense than I had expected. I share my reasons why I quit kratom in this video.

I was on kratom for about 5 years 40 grams per day. I tappered to 20 grams then to 8 grams then 4 grams and then cold turkey. That month was not easy but i made it. You cant get away from it without some form of pain. Now im 7 month off kratom and dont even think about it anymore and have 0 plan of doing it again. Being clean is way better.

Any negative side effects from such a long use? Over time I developed extreme brain fog, short term memory is ruined, problem solving is impossible, I cant do math or basically any other though in my head anymore. Im clean now for 4 months and I still feel like Im withdrawing! Fked up depression, suicidal, absurd anxiety almost anxiety attacks. Made me extremely dumb-lost like 30IQ, im slow, confused, deep derealisation, weak as hell, lost sex drive, motor skills in walk and hand movements. It ruined my life and nothing is getting better as I went clean. Im losing any hope

Only about one week ago, kratom suddenly began seemingly pulling me down and worsening my mood/mindstate rather than helping it, as it had for a very long time.
I quit drinking with the help of God, AA, and kratom, so I believe my spirit is now maturing to the point where it may be time to let the kratom go, as well. However I, too, am battling withdrawal.
I have *drastically* lowered my dosage over the course of this week compared to usual. But cutting off that last amount has been difficult. I’m trusting in Jesus (I’m Christian as well) to pull me through and deliver me.
    Thank you for this video.

I am SO SO THANKFUL for these videos! I haven’t found anyone else at all that talks about God and kratom, I am in the position I am dependent on kratom and I don’t like it and I know God wants me to taper it down. Not that it’s bad in itself but the dependence thing like you’re saying. I want to depend on God again and not be on a substance that I get the feeling of “I need to take another dose because this euphoria is wearing off”. I used to always be sober and I had joy once I accepted God into my life. I love how you are not religious and you are showing people what it’s like to be someone who loves God. There’s a lot of Pharisees out there.. Gods love is what brings people to Him, not religion. I pray for Gods protection on your life since I’m sure the kingdom of darkness will be trying to get at you. Keep this up! 😊

I was on 70+ GPD for a year and a half... I quit cold turkey almost 3 months ago.. first 3 days sucked ... nothing like heroin withdrawal but it was enough to keep me out of work. The next month and a half was just a little better every day. I can't thank you enough for your transparency and sharing of your experience, Joey. I started 5 years ago, when it was clear my sister was going to pass due to metastatic cancer. I hurt for everyone that was going to lose her. My Dad, her 4 kids, her awesome community, and my own pain. I found that just a little bit every three days or so offered a lift. Then it was more and more up to 3x daily. I want it out of my life. I did one day cold turkey and it took me right back to the raw pain of her death, the nostalgia was overwhelming. On day 2, I allowed myself a 1/4 of a teaspoon to take the edge off and couldn't believe that tiny bit helped a little because I was consuming so much more. I am on day 4, thanks to your videos Joey. Your experiences help me to anticipate, concur and ESPECIALLY important: keep me out of my own head. I too am finding exercise as a wonderful replacement, as well as Joe Dispenza meditations and prayer. Bless you and the sharing of your journey🙏🏻

Hello Joey, I am the Tampa wedding filmmaker that met you for coffee month's back.
I have actually been having simular convictions. I am a Christian and Kratom has been enormously helpful for me in difficult times but recently I started to realize that Kratom has become "the thing I go to" instead of friends and God as a way of dealing with things.
I found your first channel during a time period in my life where it really helped me learn about the benefits of Kratom.
And I rediscovered your new channel now, during this new time when i have been having these convictions to move on from it and lean much more on God through difficult times than I have been.

Actually I feel much better than I've felt in a long time. Been doing kratom everyday for 5yrs. I'm hoping to be done with it in another 30 days. This doesn't mean I won't take it again it was just time to get things right in my brain. Iam a believer like Joey and I need to depend on my faith more not the kratom crutch. I have chronic pain, depression and severe anxiety but so far I handling this very well and like said I'm feeling really good for the most part.

Hi Joey. I used to watch ALL your kratom videos and they helped me taper and not abuse it. I been on it for four years so far and I know what it got like letting go. I know how it feels to rediscover your true self buried from the kratom haze/bandage and I just want to say I am very proud of you. I'm not religious but God or the universe wants us to live life sober with no crutch and it's really hard but worth it. I been diagnosed with a lot of issues and kratom helped me a lot in the beginning but now I been tapering aggressively because I feel the signs from life that it been a good ride and time to let go for now. But hard because kratom felt like a cheap natural therapist. But we all have to face ourselves and pain one day or another.

Ive been addicted to kratom and gotten clean from it several times. Im about to get off of it again for the last time as i hate being dopesick ... the way i do it is i taper off for about a week. Set a strict dosage schedule and stick to it. Gradually reducing the dose over an extended period of time. The goal is to get down to maybe a teaspoon per dose no more than 1 every 6 hours. Then, when you have a few days off preferably at least a weekend, cut off entirely. Accept the fact that youre gonna be uncomfortable for a while. It sucks but oh well. Keep your mind busy, you probably wont be able to sleep. Take hot baths and excercise if you can. Thats about as easy as its gonna get. Good luck everyone

I've been taking Kratom for 2 years now, though I tend to take frequent breaks once the effects aren't as profound. As an artist, It helps so much with my concentration and manages my daily pains. There's a fine balance with it that needs to be considered though, but definitely has some addictive properties to it. I believe it's certainly a better alternative than chemically induced Pharmaceuticals, especially for its price, but should be used when needed. Taking frequent breaks has been well worth the venture for me personally. Thanks for sharing Joey!😎👍⚡

Thanks for being honest. I’m on day 5 of quitting and struggling a lot. The anadonia is awful and I’m exhausted. Barely slept 2 hours last night. Also believe in Jesus and am praying all day… it’s extremely difficult to go to work and interact with anyone right now and stress seems insurmountable, but I am going to stick it out.
Got started on kratom after a dental procedure I had back in 2019 (bone graft and gum graft on 3 molars) and just kept taking it daily for all these years. I thought it was the miracle cure to all of my ailments- physical and emotional, but every time I’d tried to quit, the withdrawals were so bad I would always reach for another scoop and the cycle would continue.
I feel deeply for anyone trying to get off this substance because it is the hardest thing I’ve ever done…. Have had 10+ broken bones and orthopedic surgeries amongst many other challenges in my life, and nothing compares to withdrawals. I was hooked on pain killers around 2012 for about 6 months after a jaw surgery and I remember those withdrawals being bad, but surprisingly Kratom withdrawal feels worse. I am so tired of being dependent on it.

Withdrawals weren't too bad, but it took a long-ass time to taper all the way. I hung on to that bedtime dose for awhile because I'd get restless leg syndrome all night. Either way, I'm happy with the decision to stay off it, but I still advocate for anyone who wants it to use it. I mainly quit because my son was on the way and I didn't want to accidentally get kratom powder on him, that stuff gets everywhere. 😂

@@SuperThesavageMan. Don't mean to scare you or anything, but I have heard several user reports of people having seziures at high daily dosages (mostly somewhere between 80-120+ gpd). I'm not saying everyone has a high chance of that at high daily dosage, it would be borderline impossible to figure out what the chance ratio might be, considering also that some of those cases might very well involve different lifestyle choices... but I would definitely try and taper down just for the sake of potential safety.
What I would do is to buy a scale that meaures at least in hundredths or thousandths, and go down by .05 every week or every few days. Figure out where your comfort level might be and stick to a reduction routine.
Cessation probably takes so long for some people because of withdrawal effects. Restless leg syndrome being a big one. Not everyone gets it, but my buddy did and it drove him crazy. He'd have to get up out of bed and take nightly walks every night, not being able to sleep because of it. I ended up suggesting potassium and magnesium, which can sometimes help a bit. Couple different vitamins and minerals can help reduce the symptoms of RLS. My mom has it really bad as well.
Also the intense fatigue. You just feel drained and it takes a whole lot of effort to do anything. Tapering would reduce withdrawal symptoms (with the exception of mild to moderate fatigue - or malaise, may be a more apt description). Going cold turkey has a higher chance of experiencing significant withdrawal symptoms.
Then there are also people that don't get any wd symptoms, or just a runny nose and tiredness for a few hours to a few days and that's it! lol. Anyways, good luck! Though I hope you won't need it haha. Here's to hoping at least :)

Joey, this is awesome! I'm a Christian too and I do like to basically just say I "microdose" kratom, cannabis and some fungal medicines...but I do it all in tandem (I only take one thing each day, then switch to something else the next) to give my brain a break and not become dependent. I take kratom once or twice a week and I'm 100% at peace with that. This is something I felt the Lord really instilling within me, because I have a caffeine problem and I probably have the potential to become dependent on things. Yet, with autoimmune issues and chemical imbalances the natural psychotropics are really helpful (Psalm 24:1). At the same time, it's really tricky to walk the line between doing things that honor God and our bodies, yet not becoming too fixated on turning to them for our solutions. Only the Lord can truly heal deep wounds, and it's through His love and truth that we resolve trauma.
Maybe you can microdose kratom eventually, maybe not? But either way, we are led by Him and it's awesome when we're receptive to that.
Thank you for being a good example, yet not condemning the use of kratom (or other things), it's *exactly* the way I believe God want us (Romans 14, Titus 1:15, 1 Corinthians 8) to handle stuff. Much love man, keep up the fantastic content 👏

For sure. This is one of those things that's a heart issue and up to each person. Kratom is a tool but when that tool becomes a crutch it can become an idol and that's where I ended up. I have no issue with kratom itself and support its use.

Hey, thanks for the video, I'm also a Christian and a Kratom addict. The Bible says that everything is permitted, but not everything is useful. You should also not let anything control you, so kratom is a kind of idol, using it as a savior in unpleasant situations instead of praying to Jesus in the moment. I was addicted to hard opiates for a long time and now I'm back on Kratom, but it's always a back and forth. As the saying goes: The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. How I would like to stop kratom! I have been taking Maeng Da red for 4 years. Not as a recreational substance, but as pain killer. I have a lot of nerve damage from chronic Lyme disease and co-infections (32 years), MS, and although I am on a super-healthy regimen and very pro-active in my management of Lyme disease and the rest (it is incurable, only manageable) without kratom I would not be in this world anymore. The pain is too intense, ceaseless, day and especially night. Particularly the nerve pain. It is like being electrocuted, over and over. I had to increase the doses with time, and now I am between 4 and 6 teaspoons /day. I am trying to stay away from the "enhanced" kind, but recently I had to take some to be able to sleep. I purchased your book, and I am well-aware that it is way too much and that I am entering now in a reverse phase. The other alternative is pharma drugs with enormous side-effects and even more dependence. I wish you would speak more about how to stop when severe pain is involved. Thank you.

May I ask what Kratom helps you with? For me, pain relief. Pain management is a joke. I had a fabulous primary doctor who for several years helped me with pain relief until the narrative became opioid therapy is bad. I can say for a decade I was on the same dosage never asked for increases never had any issues at all. A lot of what you hear is false. I take Joey talks blend almost the way you do. For pain, debilitating, severe physical body injuries that won’t ever heal, I need pain management. I am bedridden without. Like wheelchair disabled. I have MS too very complicated so after years of excruciating pain my doctor helped get me on what worked. I tried anything, everything for decades. Unfortunately, the narrative, has dropped the pain community with nothing until Kratom. Don’t let anyone make you feel that you are doing anything wrong. I have mobility, functionality with it. I won’t let anyone bully me that Kratom is bad. You aren’t doing anything wrong ❤

I want to say for body injuries that will never heal, you can pray, all you want but if you are in 24/7 excruciating debilitating pain, taking pain relief is not something to be ashamed of. Somewhere between I don’t even know it became a stigma to take whether it is big pharma, marijuana, now Kratom. If you can’t walk, work, have quality of life, you take what works, there is nothing wrong with that. People take medication for high blood pressure, diabetes, this is no different. If your car gas tank is empty do you say oh well, I’ll just sit here, in this spot forever, no. You fill your gas tank and go. Pain relief for bodily injuries that won’t heal you can’t rot in bed, you need to move, be apart of life. If you’re happy, then, you do whatever, makes you happy. But I hate when people think they say I don’t need anything not even an aspirin until you do. If your body works taking whatever it is not addiction. Addiction is when you want to escape life not live it. It interferes with working, family, friends, showing up for life. Be you. Do what makes you happy. Don’t let bullies, with misinformation, tell you to quit whether it’s Kratom or whatever. ♥️

@@joeytalksaboutlife It was because of your channel. You. I was at the lowest point of my life. I mean, I was never ever suicidal. As bad as, my pain became or even the tragedy after health tragedy, the death of my beloved father, my divorce, I never ever was suicidal. Four decades later after having at least a decade of controlled pain with opioid therapy, I was thriving but COVID came, lost my doctor, my meds, and pain management was pushing marijuana. I thought, I can’t live in pain, bedridden. I was searching for anything. You saved my life. Seriously. Joey ♥️ Kratom did too. The Universe brought your compassionate, sweet, smart, positive energy, my way. I know there is a difference between emotional pain, structural physical pain, and pain after surgery. That is why I emphasize my pain is structural, it is, physical. I have three decades of imaging, like MRIs CatScans, sonograms. My pain is complex and comes from three very different parts of my body. That is why I was prescribed opioids. It wasn’t a doctor just throwing them at me. I tried anything, everything to no avail. When my mobility, and functional capacity was at zero, I needed real help. Unfortunately, the narrative currently, being sold is opioids are bad. They aren’t. I’ve spoken to numerous pharmacists over the years. Taken respectfully, responsibly they give quality of life to those of us that would be bedridden or worse. Unfortunately, the same groups, are going after Kratom. It’s pure ignorance.

I’ve been on it for two years and have tapered off over the past month, though not quite as much as I would’ve liked. But still I jumped off completely two days ago. Withdrawals are uncomfortable although manageable but the biggest thing seems to be boredom. I constantly think how much more fun it would be to be on it right now and I’m looking for confirmation that controlled use after quitting might be possible. Do you think it’s a good idea to use sporadically/socially after completing the withdrawal process or is this just the addict in me looking for an excuse?

I started taking kratom in 2012, after a 23 year long battle with alcoholism.
Let me preface this with a little family history. My mother's side of the family are almost all alcoholics. Her father ran his car of a bridge around the age of 50, because he was drunk driving, and 2 of her 3 brothers died in their 40s, from alcoholism. My mother, although not as bad they were, is also an alcoholic. I didn't meet my father until i was 24, and when i did, i found out that he also drank at least a 12 pack of beer a day.
I spent most of my life addicted to alcohol since age 14. By 16, I was drinking every night to the point of being drunk. At 25, I started drinking in the morning and all day long. I needed 5 or 6 drinks before work just so I wouldn't shake so bad. Several times, I tried to quit drinking, and within 36 hours, I would go into seizures. Did the detox a few times, but wasn't strong enough to stay away from the alcohol. Went away to a great Christian rehab in 2011. It was a 9 week program and i made it through sober. I followed that up with living at a Christian halfway house for 3 months. Life was new. I was new. It was great. But at some point, you have to live in the unprotected "real world". Within a few months, I started getting those alcohol cravings back. This was 2012. I didn't want to go down that road that has brought me and my loved ones so much pain. So I started searching on the internet and found out about a leaf called kratom that some alcoholics had used to quit and abstain from alcohol. I wasn't drinking yet, but was real close. I was very skeptical, but I was desperate not to go back into my own personal hell. It took about a few weeks to get my dosage right, but it worked. I couldn't believe it. I could make it through the day and not be fighting those generational demons that had haunted me my whole life. It was too good to be true. I took it everyday and my quality of life reached a level i had never witnessed or thought possible. Then in 2015/2016, I had heard that kratom was getting banned. I had just had my first daughter and didn't want to put that in jeopardy by having illegal substances in my home, so I quit taking kratom. Within 3 weeks, started drinking again. Within 4 months, I had lost everything, including my marriage, license again, job, and relationship with my daughter. February 1, 2017 I enrolled myself in a year long rehab. Did great there. I can stay sober in a protected atmosphere with no temptaion around me, but unfortunately the world isn't like that. After graduating that program i decided that i would start life over in a whole new area to me just miles from where this rehab was. Within a few weeks, the cravings for alcohol was creeping back. I surely didn't want to go down that road again. I was 40 years old and didn't have much fight or hope in me left should i give in to my addiction. I remember thinking to myself, if only kratom didn't get banned. (I forgot to mention that at the year long rehab, we had no television, internet, etc, so had no way to keep up with what was going on in the real world, let alone the news on kratom). Little did I realize, it was never banned. I ordered some immediately. I sit here writing this 5 years later. I have remarried, I see my child regularly, I have excelled at my job. I own 3 cars (most of my life I barely owned 1 because of DUIs, and lack of financial resources because of my addiction). These last 5 years have been my best. I could have saved myself from alot of pain had I found this earlier in life. But I'm lucky. 12 of the guys I was in the year long rehab with, have died from overdose. There is some guilt about me not keeping up with them as good as I should have, because I could have probably saved a few of them by telling them about kratom. I will be forever grateful for this leaf, that gave me a life i never thought was possible.
I hope you aren't as bad as an alcoholic as I was, but for my child, I will continue to take kratom

I know not everyone has access to legal medical marijuana, but indica troches or some type of edible works amazing at night. The hardest part of quitting for me is not being able to fall asleep

I am horrified to quit kratom due to the withdrawals.. 😢 my fiancé and I want to get pregnant and I know you can’t take kratom through a pregnancy. I truly love kratom so much and it’s helped me anxiety and depression. My fiancé doesn’t understand it.. I understand he sees it as an addiction. He isn’t wrong.
Please share how you tapered and the best way to overcome the withdrawals !

It is not an addiction. An addiction prevents you from living life. If you are happy, and working, plugged into life, don’t let anyone tell you Kratom is bad. Is marijuana bad? No. ❤

@@moneymonroesays agreed. It’s not an addiction.

@@moneymonroesays it’s hard for my fiancé to understand since he doesn’t take anything at all. If it were up to me, I’d never quit. It helps me cope with so much and I never drink due to anxiety. I used to drink a lot! But now I dont. I don’t even “feel” kratom at this point I just feel normal and social with it. So it sucks knowing for me to get pregnant.. I have to kick it 😩 I tried googling if kratom use and pregnancy is bad and I can’t find much of anything other than some sketchy biased sources that don’t like kratom in the first place.

If you get any kind of withdrawals from discontinuing a substance, that is quite literally the epitome of an addiction. The word “addiction “ has too much shame and stigma behind it. Acceptance is the first step to healing and getting better. I believe every human has an addiction to something. Whether it’s work, shopping, food, porn, vanity, drugs/substance etc

I myself am Christian and have been taking it on and off for 3 years or so. I felt like I turned it into a idol. My question is do you think caffeine if addictied as i am should view it the same as kratom? Caffeine withdrawal is bad as well for me but only last 2 days I’m on day 5 and pain is pretty much gone but energy and motivation is zapped. I have a 8 day old baby a 15 months 3 &5 year old i don’t go bank to work for 6 weeks should i keep going or just take it im very low dose?

Looking for some advice I know your not a doctor lol just someone with experience
I currently take 2-4 opms shots a day do you think the best way is to drop to 2 a day then 1 a day and then do a few days of capsule powder then jump off that after a few days of powder? Thanks man I appreciate your feedback

I've been on Kratom for 5 years. It's helped tremendously. I feel called for similar spiritual reasons to quit, but can hardly imagine doing so. I started taking the extract shots daily. Any suggestions on how to start tapering and eventually stopping?

Started a wean like 6 months ago, down to 12 grams per day from 55 grams...it's been tough and there have been doses I was stuck at, like I swear I went from 55 to 25 grams fast, then I was stuck at 20-25 grams for like 4 months, and just in the last month I made a break thru...I think I just need to mentally make the jump below 20 for a couple days to get confidence that I could handle it

You don’t need that to get through kratom wd. Just taper down with the help of supplements and then take a low dose of phenibut and some kava a few times. It’s such a shame he deleted all his Kratom stuff. It was really useful for tapering off. Maybe @joeytalkslife could reupload them or create like a written wiki for quitting Kratom?
