    My diet, fitness and flexibility has been better than ever and I haven't been sick in 3 years, only had a headache few months ago, no flu shots, no meds. Just a clean diet. Use to fall in lil pockets of depression, now i'm pretty much in the same situation but my health and attitude has allowed me not to deal with any depression since 3 years ago. its all connected

    Did jiu jitsu yesterday for tirst time in 1.5 year because of injury and bad attitude. I do feel alive today, I'm excited to do everything from study to meet new people and everything. I nearly died on a heartattack yesterday because of the hard training but I'm so pumped for traning tomorrow. Steady wins the race! Thank you Firas!

    Well past my thirties and I've definitely experienced what Firas said about training and diet keeping you feeling and looking young. People regularly think I'm in my late twenties when my kids can be close to that age.

    i am constantly trying to apply my skills to everyday situations such as using my strikes such as elbows palm strikes to open doors or blocks to divert the door. . when standing in line using that time to work on balance shifting my hips. even taking off my jacket i practice my throws. even with small tables at Starbucks im working on my guard and pushing chairs sweeps and trips. striking i basically put on my headphones and work my striking the martial art that i practice is fluid enough where it looks like im dancing but im not. this all is a bit weird but thats how i train when im quote unquote relaxing by myself or in public.

    I am 40 and just started training MMA two years ago, after a life full of no sports, alcohol, drugs, partying and w hole lot more of unnecessary bullshit.
    I have never felt better than I do now. I never had more energy and I never looked better. I frequently get estimated up to ten years younger than I am. The sport not only fixed my body, but also my mind. Same like it straightened my posture, it also straightened my thoughts.
    Attidtude is by far the most important thing to keep in check. I managed to costantly up the ante and am now training 7-8 units a week, mostly BJJ and wrestling, and am looking forward to making my debut in the cage at the tender age of 40 or 41... ;) An age where most of the other people have already given up on themselves and are just waiting to finally die, wasting the time with beer and BBQ in between.
    . I try to stick to something my coach told me when I was moaning about another one of those small injuries, like a turf toe or something like that.
    He said to me: You need to get to the point where you just stop giving a shit. So, no matter if it's the bruises or a lack of incentive to go to the gym any particular day, I will just tell myself to stop giving a shit about my booboos.
    Works wonders and there wasn't one day up to now, where I didn't leave the gym feeling way better than I did upon arriving.
    Thanks for this video. I happily shared it with my teammates to give them some food for thought. ;)

    This reminds of me of the concept of finite and infinite games. Most people only play finite games, where there is a short term definition of winning and losing. The maintenance of ones health is an infinite game. You train every day to stay in the game not to win. You also need to acknowledge your own death to be committed to the infinite game.

    This is something i wish i had been told when i was 17. Sometimes you just need to hear something said in the right way. I'm 27 now and i have come to understand now that what you said here is very true, not just the age old message of eat right and work out, but i refer specifcally to the old age concept. I feel I embraced this mentality that we all just get old eventually so I may as well just get on with it and act like and old/boring person. It's a poor attitude that comes from my personality (I have never been the jump for joy/hyper kind of person) - But it's just a question of just finding the right thing that motivates you. It was a foolish outlook i had and Firaz is right to call this out for what it is. I'm actually a pretty fun and social guy that likes martial arts training but over time, dissapointments and life events i became a bit jaded and lazy. I'm making changes now and feeling alot better for it. Thanks for the video and i hope all watching can start taking the small steps just like I finally am - if they want to!

      Keep strong sir, I'm also 27 and man do i wish i was told this 10 years ago. Know exactly how you feel. Anyway i also started taking small steps and it feels dam good. I am back into martial arts and have started to workout at home too. The Latter has been a huge hurdle for me to get by but I'm finally there and gotta say it feels pretty sweet.

      Hey man you too good work! Yeah i'm boxing 3 times a week now and doing home workouts and loving it. Just very small baby steps is the key. Working out properly by yourself and eating right is tricky so the momentum thing really comes into play here.

      Entirely agree, my diet has changed completely too. I have cut out sugar and I'm making an effort to eat properly. Gotta say that i can feel myself getting better physically. it feels weird lol but a hell of a lot better than being a couch potato

      Tristar Gym yeah definitely, when watching ure videos I often notice certain principles and concepts you speak about in books I have read : for instance the idea of controlling self which is a stoic idea that appears in 7 habits of if highly effective people too tho. Think it would be interesting to see what books you have read and what you took from them not just in ure mma career but other areas maybe

    Hey Firas, I love your videos and I believe this particular two videos could help me a lot. But I have one question, I usually try to train MMA 2 or 3 hours 5 days a week, but because of my schedule I can only get 5 or 6 hours of sleep sunday to thursday and I make up on friday and saturday by sleeping until I feel rested, because of this I have felt really tired which makes training consistently really hard, do you think this is something that I could overcome by going slower and steadier, or should I find I way to try and rest more everyday?

    I do BJJ here in Michigan under a De La Riva affiliate school and I started training about 14 months ago, with the only background in fighting/sports being a year of high school wrestling, which was like 3 years ago. I started training 5 days a week right at the beginning, got a little unmotivated because I was getting destroyed as I go to a gym with mainly bigger guys. I am one of the smallest guys in the gym, but I am the smallest most active as of now. I did hurt my knee and was out for two months because it was just bugging me so much, the knee still isn't 100% and doesn't seem to wanna heal. I saw an orthopedic and got it checked out, he said it was nothing, so i hope he is right. After my last semester of school ended, I started going to BJJ everyday and to every class. At first it was hard because I was getting so drained. I don't get sore at all from BJJ which is nice and lets me train without an issue the days to come. Since I started going to all the classes, I can tell what he means by "the more you train, the more energy you get" because I don't just go to every class, but I stay after too. On Thursdays I go in the morning, then to the evening class, stay after until everyone leaves, then off to the night class, unless the guys at the evening class stay long. I have created a VERY strong habit. There was times when going to bjj was like a "Man I dont wanna get up" type of thing. I was lazy and all that. Now its like, I can't wait. I have been making so much progress and I have been surpassing and smashing my goals.

    Hey firas, just wondering how long it takes to brake a bad habit like smoking cigarettes, I’m beginning amateur boxing, I’m 1-0 and I want to break this bad habit because I know I’m not functioning at my full potential and it will hurt me going forward. I’ve tried quitting many times many ways. Any advice will help!

    Love what you said, just one thing....sorry to tell you but no matter how much you work out you will still get old. I'm in my mid 40s and have worked out but I'm still getting old. That is one thing you cannot stop and of course death. You can probably avoid some deceases that may come with obesity and being lathatargic but getting old.

    Hey coach do you think what time of the day you train plays a role in whether you feel energised or tired? When I do bjj/boxing in the afternoon I come back home feeling sleepy but when I do it at night I come back home being more stimulated. I know some people say the opposite happens to them. Perhaps it is a nutritional thing?

      Bon Oh i would try not training as hard. Generally the earlier the training the better this allows for your metabolism to burn longer. Keep your workout a little lighter and shorter but more frequent.

    Thank you so much for this video. I agree with you 100%. I am 27 years old and I've been truly too dumb to not to train regularly and I really feel terrible. My question is probably also a little dumb. Can I reverse it? Can I fix damages I have already caused to my body if I start training now? Can I go from "old" to young again?

      I know you are right also about self image. But this was so eye opening to me I am kicking myself. Especially now, I sleep in my bed fighting some virus, shaking, feeling cold and miserable. And I count it has been two years I've not been active and I've been sick more times than back then I was going to gym. It is time to change my attitude and be responsible for my health.

    How important is sleep? I sleep about 5 1/2 hours a night. People say it is very important but I am very healthy even with this amount. Will it affect me in the future?

      Guillermo Fuentes if you do not mind me commenting, sleep is important, but everyone is different. I feel invigorated after 5-6 hours of sleep. So does my Sensei. Then, there are people that need those extra few hours because they feel like a zombie without it. The key is listening to your body. Actually listening.

    I wish i can show this to my gf but she wont watch it for sure and if i try to explain it to her she will just keep saying noo exercises only make me more tired blah blah lol impossible to convince her the importance of exercise....lucky for her she doesnt eat much and fast metabolism shes naturally slim..or else ..lol

    What about the fact that some of us just can't afford to train? There's no food in my cupboards where am I going to get the $75 every month to go sign up at a gym. The sad truth is many potential world champions never even stepped inside of a gym because they grew up too poor to even have that opportunity. This is why I loved the old idea of boxing gyms that would open in a rough neighborhood and just let the kids come in to train for free.

      A,c. From trial and error. I take one day off a week and when I feel I need to I take additional days offf

      Tristar Gym+, im training 4 times a week, on a level that i have to rest the next day.even i really want to train every day, i can't. Thanks for the videos.
