    I just realized that I was sitting here with my eyes bugged out and my mouth hanging open while watching this video. I've worked at construction for a good number of years of my life. Remodeling, building, having to figure out to make something work, making old homes look new again. I loved doing this type of work. Unfortunately, I am half crippled today due to this type of work, but I can always appreciate the amount of time, effort, knowhow, etc. in order to get a good job done. I know that this is just a video game, but I get the same feeling of accomplishment that I always felt once the job was finished. It certainly appears that you've done quite a lot of work here, great job ! I think that my favorite settlement make over is the outdoor movie theater (I forget the name)
    Also you did a great job on some of the homes as well. I think that my favorite house make overs are in the town of Good neighbor (not certain of the name here either, or the characters either, senior moments I think) And sincerely, This stuff is just fascinating.

      Skooled Zone has some good no mods settlement builds that actually look "realistic" and by that i mean he makes it look like structures can be supported logically, unlike Oxhorn who has the most ugly and unrealistic settlements. Haha oxhorns guard towers are floating on platforms with tiny little steps leading up and his light placement is so janky worst fallout 4 builder nothing he does ever looks good

    The level of detail and amount of effort you've put in here is impressive. After viewing I've decided to scrap everything and just make a simple new structure to house all the beds and amenities where the loaded logging truck was. Following your advice I will concentrate missile and laser turrets facing the only spawn point. I couldn't believe how many bad guys spawned when I first visited this settlement to start the build. There was even a giant hermit crab. Thankfully I brought my trusty instigating four shot homing missile launcher and made short work of the encroaching threat. Thanks again Oxhorn

      build a mortar in a settlement you control and craft Clear Sky firework at a chem station. Power the mortar and drop the firework into it from your menu. Far Harbor's weather is scripted to be bad so they don't extend as far or for as long as the mainland. PS Not the junk mortar, the firework firer one.

      Before fallout 4 came out i thought youd be able to become a goul like vampirism in skyrim. Betheda should come out with a goul dlc where it changes your characters to a goul version oof your preset characters

    on a ps4 and using the 'scrap that settlement' mod I was able to go and scrap the boarded up door on the first building inside the Echo Lake lumber yard and it turns out to be a completely whole usable building except for one small corner that's outside the buildable area. I was even able to add a door and I now use that as the settlement bedroom area. you are great oxhorn and thanks for taking the time to show us all this stuff

    I noticed the same thing about Gracie! Duke enters the doghouse, Mishka sometimes does for a few minutes before exiting, but Gracie never did, for me. It eventually occurred that maybe she is too big for the average sized dog house, so I crafted one from CVC that was bigger and more open. She had plenty of space, but still refused. Odd! Regarding the beds being out in the open, I never knew you got a penalty for that. I assumed it was much like settlers not being affected by the heat output of things like fire barrels. Still, I always felt poorly about leaving their beds exposed to the elements so I always made sure they were enclosed, anyway. Didn't know you could loot fog, either! Lastly, the conveyor belt table was really clever! Another amazing build, Ox, my favorite thus far besides Vault 88 and your Hangman's Alley version II - keep it up!

    Hey people watching in 2020! There's a mod on PS4 called the "Scrap anything" mod that allows you to scrap ALL dirt piles, leaves, etc. It makes your settlements look 1000x cleaner. Also it lets you scrap that hideous cabin and stone walls from Tenpines bluff, making the settlement usable!

    I got pissed and just scrapped the entire house with the scrap everything mod lmao. That mod is a blessing. I tried to re-build the second half floor but I got too confused. I plan on bringing up the foundations for the little half ground floor to match the original and have one giant common room.

    your assumptions of the conveyor system was backward... it would be where they pull the logs out of the water and feed to the saw mill. Love the fallout 4 videos. your lore videos contributed heavily to my love of the game. thank you.

    @ 9:57 I got around this by using conduit and the wall passthrough with the conduit. Once I got it in the room, I used the power radiator conduit ends to get power where I needed it. After I placed the beds and tables the conduit is covered so well it's hard to see, unless you're looking for it.

      I know this is late as hell, but there were some new chems in Far Harbor that boosted you based on your rad level. The more rads you had, the more buffs they gave

      He has armor that increases his strength state based on how many rads he has, so he purposely keeps himself at high rads when carrying a lot of stuff.

    I did something similar but with concrete (except for filling the floors in I used wood). For the top I just capped it with the concrete at the roof. This gave me some flat area up there to put windmills on so it worked out well. This barn approach is nice though. For the wall on the third floor I just built out on the concrete structure i made more and more until I filled all the open spots.
    Also I am on PS4 with no mods so what I accomplished I was pretty proud of.

    I think that you keep the right balance in ur settlements when keeping original items and placing new items. As I have noticed in a lot of your places I have kept the same items too. Where things seem logical or aesthetically pleasing to the eye our minds are alike. :)

    That bug thing you call a trogoliyte (sorry for my bad spelling) is a mirelurk hatchling. Those annoying little suckers that come at you all at once. My friend suggested I use Molotov cocktails on them. Works well.

    The logs in your activity area are log cutting challenges it’s like a public event people go to see it’s also why there is a log rolling over by the swampy area

    Been in a creative mood, and I'm making my Echo Lake Lumber Mill a sort of "embassy" for the Commonwealth under the Minutemen (having defeated the Institute). Heck, every one of my Far Harbor settlements are my Minutemen base camps, being used to help keep the peace between the Synths, Children of Atom, and Far Harbor.

    When using the markfordelete command first use disable. If the right thing disappears then use markfordelete. If something else disappears use enable. Doing it that way you delete the item which keeps the save from bloating but it also removes the item without having to fast travel.

    This was interesting, I build for strength. I have Beast cages in a chain going from crops to herbivories to carnivores up to death claws. I didn't know that there was only one spawn point so I fortified it so much that my defense is in the 200s. the one thing I'm proud of is my pack of 20 dogs. Thanks for the patching ideas, I've been looking for a way to redo it. If only ps4 had a decent hope for mods...

    Oxhorn, a little trick to get rid of that decal in your dining area is to scrap the floor piece then put another one down. Not sure if anybody already told you that.

    If you can't scrap something just select it with console on, and then write 'disable' so it will be invisible and you can build something else in the position (if you did not select it correctly just write 'enable' and it will come back).

      Sadly this doesn't work with decals--rust, garbage layers, etc. You get a message saying that it is attached to the world space and cannot be disabled.

    You’re amazing Ox.. others have said it but you really give me inspiration.. all my settlements get better as I move on. I haven’t used mods yet but I’m going to add some I think.. I’m a builder/restorer in real life( projects from the boss.. err I mean wife) I truly believe our characters would sit talking for hours having a beer/ or other adult libations.. your story telling about all you do is fascinating.. great job..

    Two things I hate about that location, 1 is the building along the road being boarded up making a wall instead of a building and the shops not being inside the settlement.

      Although im like 3-4 years late I just got the dlc and it annoys me so much that those shops are not in it but things like the bleachers are. Also i agree that not being able to destroy or use the house sucks

      This is old, but if you have scrap everything, you can scrap the door board and access the inside of that building, and it’s fully rendered. In my game, I use it for bathrooms.

      @@SomeGuyWhoPlaysGames333 I modded the location in the CK, fixed the building along the road so it isn't boarded up, extended the build area all the way past the shops and the building behind them almost to the road, and fixed that boarded up building as well so it has an interior.

    @ around 19:50 ish you were saying how you marked for delete those piles of garbage but as a player on ps4 when I deleted the furniture in that room (instead of trying to store it) the trash that it was with disappeared as well, interesting video, thanks for sharing this I really like your settlement build!

    Having 17 bars just makes things look bad imo. Like a marketplace makes a settlement look amazing and efficient and I know a lot of bars gives you a 100 happiness but I just feel that looks > happiness lol

    I think you should use the two containers that you didn't scrap by your docks as backdrops for two of your bars from your food court. It will help your FPS by focusing several of your settlers in your dock/lounge area. There will always be people hanging out on your docks.

    Since there are still people playing FO4 as well as a lot of new players, I'll just throw out a tip regarding spotlights, and more specifically spotlights stopping their function when you leave the settlement. If you wire them separately to a couple of interval switches, each connected to a terminal, and then set the "on" functions of the spotlights to a different time (max & close to max), and the "OFF" times to 1 second, then the spotlights will remain on and working all the time, with just a one-second stoppage that will occur randomly. In short, they will always be on if you wire it up right and set their timers correctly.

    Oxhorn. Marvelous build. I was looking for some lore info on this location in Far Harbor. The terminal on the desk that comes with the settlement actually has a playable tape in it. There is a message about someone complaining about being spotted coming across the log roll at 5 in the morning. If they want the profits to keep rolling in they need to put a stop to the nosy snoop. I went across the log roll but all I found were some mirelurks. I was hoping that you were better at finding what the tape was referencing.

    watching at the end when your having issues with lights in the market area, I had t thought that you can use a mod to string the hanging lights around the structure about half way down to add lights to the ground and the area where people would be watching the games after dark.

    So those floating logs towards end of video you were chatting about the ones in a line across the water.. @ 45 min time stamp. Lead to an underground bunker that's extremely well hidden right under a fallen tree out there. Very nice build for what you were working with.

    The animation mess he was talking about I've been trying to find animation Rings or animation legendary effects that you can apply to equipment or items that you collect, example if you give a NPC a Pip-Boy you expect them to use it see you assign that animation to that item or if you give them a knife you assign the proper animation to that knife much like how the hats work whenever an NPC is wearing a hat but most of all I would like an animation for the jetpack for your NPCs specifically companions since the only characters that will fly and follow you are either bugs or I Bots.

    You know I have a challenge for you Oxhorn! Take a settlement, your choice which, and try to modify and improve it, basically what you did for this, without any mods! There are a few rules to this though. Rule 1: Is of course no mods or console commands, you can only use what the game gives you naturally. Rule 2: Hangman's Ally is excluded because of it's size and difficulty to settle. Rule 3: If you succeed then you have to make a video explaining it just like any of your other settlement videos. Other then that you have free reign to due what you please. By the way two requests can you do a video about the quest that get's you the Mill as a settlement an a character profile on Piper?

    I've decided to make it one huge COA settlement (seeing as it's right next to Atom's Spring). Possibly as a way to help people realise that with "Tektus' new way of doing things that has nothing to do with DiMA in the slightest", the Children of Atom can be trusted. The main building has transformed into a Visitor Centre to educate the citizens of the island about Atom. If you're needing a snack, you can stop by the Atom's Spring Cafe (next to the river). I'm still wondering about other buildings.
    Also, the Fog and atmosphere is probably my least favourite part of Fah Hahbah. Nothing ever looks pleasant (Except for interiors and the outside of Acadia) and you can never see clearly.

      That's the reason I don't play in Far Harbor. I can't see anything. I did an initial runaround in about 4 trips and haven't been back. Likewise in Nuka World. I have troubles playing an evil character. My mind is too lazy or something to think along the devious pathways. LOL

    I'm playing on survival and have capped my level at 50 so It doesn't get to easy so I only have 360hp so far harbor is an absolute NIGHTMARE to survive in so I decided to make a settlement in echo lake lumber and needed some ideas and your builds are awesome.

      I know exactly what you mean. When I am playing, I AM that character. I have to concentrate on every little thing I do or say to figure out the evil response/action. That is uncomfortable to me and against everything I have learned in my life.

    FYI for fellow console players! USO is great for adding all kinds of stuff to the work shop! It may even be on PS4! It doesnt add anything to my knowledge.

    Due to the atmosphere of fallout harbor, ive decided to make a castle there, I'm still not using mods so its taking forever because concrete and cement are hard to come by, I'm a huge Dracula fan so this was the perfect setting muahahaha.

    Anybody watching this video in 2021. Years after watching this video, i finally know why the weather always turned bad in this settlement. Its the "region" data in the DLCCost.esm. Region data can change the weather or sounds for specific areas as overrides. To remove the crap weather from far harbor on PC: open the DLCCoast in F04Edit and find the Region data. Simply remove the weather overrides. The glowing sea uses it to always have radiation weather and Nuka World market is always sunny weather.

    i know this is an old video.
    i think it is part of a mod i have installed but...
    while i am in build mode i hit the insert key on the keyboard and it tells me "extra object selection enabled and i can then get rid of a lot of the items that can't be scraped, but you have to be careful as it can scrap the houses and other items that the game thinks is still there and it messes with the LOD when you move thru where the big item was.
    try experimenting with hitting different keys on your keyboard like f1-f4 while in build mode

    i hated echo lake lumber as a settlement location. but you have made it nice. my largest most developed settlement in all of fallout 4 is the visitors center.

    I know it’s been years.. it’s only been a few months that I started playing.. the most fun I’ve ever had building/ decorating was back in the Star Wars Galaxies time.. you could make ceiling fans out out of a mine( hub of the fan) sword blades ( fan blades) a fighting staff ( shaft of the fan) etc.. take a short storage box and make an oven/ range. Use weapons mods as burners, Jedi crystals as knobs etc. you could place items virtually anywhere.. rotating items.. I once made a big screen tv with a ground scene with a 3D effect . A Tie fighter tilted out of the screen shooting at an X wing.. long winded .. sorry. I’m older been gaming since Diablo.. worked at a hospital across from Blizzard in Irvine California.. beta tested most of these games since Asherons Call. I hope you at one point see some a these.     This is why I use spring cleaning. You do have to be careful with it, but with practice you can delete all that garbage.

    By the way Ox, What mod do you have that allows the huge posts to be placed. I love the post and beam ideas not just at this settlement but in some of my others where the issue of settlement buildings are just hanging in mid air.

    Dear Oxhorn, could you please tell which mod you used for the nice looking carpets under your beds? I especially like the green and dark red ones. I have a mod for carpets, but it's different and has many modern looking ones with patterns that I don't like. I'd rather use the same mod as you.

    My question is, if I were to delete the buildings, would I cause a big hole to open up in the world map with nothing in it? Like if I jump in it would I fall for thousands of feet before dying to nothing?
