- ‘Timing was pitiful’: Royal experts react to Prince Harry and Meghan photo after Royals picture. No sooner had Buckingham Palace released a portrait of King Charles, Prince William, Kate Middleton and Queen Consort Camilla - what’s been dubbed as the ‘new Fab Four’ - than a rival portrait from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle emerged from California. Harry and Meghan released an image of the two of them from an event they attended in the UK just before the Queen's death. The timing, says the Daily Mail’s Royal Editor Rebecca English was ‘puzzling’. The Daily Mail’s consultant editor Andrew Pierce believes it was down to a bad case of ‘me, me, me!’ with the couple not wanting the public to forget them: ‘I actually thought the timing was pitiful.’

I’m an American. I agree with the person who wrote in that the Harkles children do not need titles and they could end up being a liability for the children. We do not have royalty here, despite how much M wants to promote herself as such, it’s meaningless. In my opinion, even H is not Royal since he lives here.

Was so pleased Princess Anne formally reached out to personally thank the military for their participation and efforts for the funeral. The Navy signed up but didn't realize they would be such an important part of the procession.

The logistics to that were insane. I'm in US. Don't get to see something like that everyday. Such an amazing job how everyone pulled it together. As an America, the idea that we would have to pay for protection for M.H. or their children (should they ever have any) is just crazy. Most Americans didnt even know they were in the States until that Oprah show. Most people in America has more need for protection than they do.
I am not a British citizen but watching the royal children and grandchildren and the thousands of Brits of all backgrounds and religions who came to pay their respects to the Queen as she lay in state, I couldn't help but be moved and impressed. I felt I was seeing the best of the true spirit of the British people.

I totally agree!👍 I was at the Mall for the Queen's funeral procession along with thousands of others. My friend asked me to video the procession on my phone but I didn't want to.

Princess Anne was the first female to participate in the vigil of the prince's ritual she took part in. It was also a historical moment for her to wear her (well decorated!) uniform. I truly admire her dedication and drive as one of 4 royal children, although Charles sits on the throne, I believe P Anne is the hardest working royal! She keeps her engagement calendar full!
And Princess Anne would have been a wonderful Queen. No nonsense, decisive, fair, no pettiness, no drama. Monarchy first, successfully fit in family and personal life. And so on.

Hopefully they will do the same for the coronation, in a time of hardship anything that not only brings in tourism - and it will - which helps keeps jobs going as well as bringing money into the tax coffers but will again also show the world just how well the UK in general (and by extension all other realms AND the commonwealth and as a commonwealth citizen it was great seeing our military out in front just behind the RCMPs) can put on a show of tradition. Traditions going back hundreds and hundreds of years in this case.

I'm not a Camilla fan, but the way she has stepped up is commendable. The difference between Meghan and Camilla is, one quit the job a million little girls would die for, and other stepped up to do a job she never in a million years wanted. A photographer may have released that photo but it was only released because Megan gave it the okay. The photos are not his if they were hired by her. Megan is very aware of everything around her so if it was not okayed it was not released. Also if she was not happy with it being out at the time it was put out then you would have heard her something being said that she did not release it or she was unhappy about it being released.

They did this event in Manchester in the Uk which is Harry’s home country, if she hadn’t married Harry she was mostly unknown to everyone and without that connection she wouldn’t have made that speech. It’s odd how they aren’t a team, it’s her front and centre as the star. If honestly she felt the RF were an awful institution and they just wanted privacy and normal life they wouldn’t be placing themselves in the public eye and they wouldn’t use or need their titles anymore. Without the RF connection though MM wouldn’t have the platform she has now.

How long will it be before the word "consort" is dropped (unofficially) by the media. It is rather unwieldy. Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and Queen Mary before her were both Queen Consorts and the titles weren't used, except officially.

@@elaineforan4751 Outside of countries where Charles is King she is Queen Camilla and in countries where Charles is King she is the Queen. Queen Consort is simply the type of Queen she is versus Elizabeth II who was a Queen Regnant.
Camilla has been referred to as the Queen Consort in recent weeks simply to differentiate between her and Queen Elizabeth II who had been “the Queen” for the past 70 years. It’s going to take some time when using the expression “the Queen” for people to think of it being anybody other than Elizabeth II. It’s like the fact that people still are sometimes referring to Charles as Prince Charles because he was known by that name for so long.

I did a research on the difference between a Queen and a Queen Consort. What I found out was that , a Queen is an inherited title like Queen Elizabeth II . She was crowned as Queen for being the next successor by birth but a Queen Consort is a wife of a King. So therefore the way I understood is that Kate will also become a Queen consort when Prince William becomes King. I hope I understood it right. You’ve got it correct, though most know that Queen consort is not the ruler. Queen Regina which is how HM, Queen Elizabeth signed her name is the successor title.

Don't forget the Princess Royal's children, they have no titles but we all admire who they are & especially Zara who represented the UK in the Olympics. You are right though, Andrew's girls should not have been called Princess's but it was the Queen's wish. However, they are exemplary in their behaviour, not like their cousin who is an utter disgrace to the family. He reminds me of the second son of Queen Margarite of Denmark. Spoilt brats when children both inherited the worst attributes of their forebears.

Rebecca English is a bit of a hypocrite, I'm afraid! The fellow on the left is the only one calling a spade a spade. I refer to the so called "official" portrait of the Harkles. She rides on Harry's coattails and yet she puts herself forward always as the star of the show. It's pitiful indeed, especially considering that they released these pictures to clash with the official royal portrait of the King and Queen Consort and the Prince and Princess of Wales. The Harkles are constantly trying to compete and upstage all things royal, even the very death of Her Majesty the Queen. Worse than pitiful, actually. They're ridiculously disrespectful. If I were British, I would boycott any whisper of them in your media.

I have to say that QC Camilla has mastered the art of paired photographs well. She and KC3 👑 usually wear complementary clothes, stand side by side, but somehow she becomes the perfect 'foil' to him. So refreshing.

Hi Jo and Richard I've just received my 2 books "the new royals" and "courtiers" so I'm going to be doing a lot of reading for a while love reading when I was growing up people who new me called me "a bookworm"
not only was it appropriate for Princess Anne to wear a military uniform, like her siblings, at her mother's funeral service; she definitely has "earned" that right, and lives her "honorary" status with her actions: going to the military folk who were responsible for the processing of the late Queen's casket on a gun carriage from Westminster through London, doing so with ropes (I know there is a technical term for this; I read about it in one of Julian Stockwin's Kydd" books, but I cannot recall what that term is!) Whatever the proper term is, Princess Anne said "Thank You" in a direct, personal way. I applaud her thoughtfulness!

I felt very Queezy with your Katie Nicholl slot in Light of the internet alight with the photo of her with Harvey Weinstein ?? very very nauseating for alot of women.
