I use a Puig sport touring screen as a winter screen on my 1290 SA-S and find that it's heaps better than the stock garbage! No buffeting and I'm still able to get enough airflow to keep my visor/glasses from fogging up when it rains. Thanks for the review!
I've got one on the 1190, did about 1000 miles with it the other weekend and I'm very happy. I've tried 6 or 7 windshields so far and the only two I consistently use are the Puig and the OEM R screen. The only thing I don't like and I'm sure everyone will point out is the GoPro looks though it even though I'm just peaking over the top on mine.
Uso exactamente el mismo en mi 1290SAT. Es muy recomendable, excepto a altas velocidades porque vibra mucho y el viento hace mucha presión sobre el parabrisas. Saludos desde Argentina!!
Looks really effective. I am not a big fan of large screens so have actually gone the other way on my GSA. I fitted a smaller screen which I find more comfortable generally, plus I don't have to change screens when I go off road. As you said its all down to personal preference, which keeps all the accesory manufacturers in business!! :-)
Puig+ crg arrow mirror, spot on review... My personal tips i did apply water repellent each time i wash my bike, that's helps alot if u are riding in the rain.
Windshield looks good and if it suits your demands everything's fine. I would never use a windshield that forces me to look through it. I'd accept some buffeting if there's no better but on safety reasons I'd prefer to look over it.
Currently looking for a screen for my 2019 KTM 1290 SaS, I like the Touratech one but I think the Puig Touring looks the best...not many option for me here in Ireland.
I added MRA X screen on serial windscreen and I'm very satisfied. No buffeting and turbulence. I use Puig on GSA and it's much better than original. I'm 6,3 (193 cm).
Finally got around to installing one on my 2017 SA-T. Only one test ride with it so far. Much cleaner look. Certainly pushes air up and over my helmet more than the stock. But seems stock screen cut a wider swatch, so with the Puig I feel more wind on my arms and shoulders (as you also mentioned that in your video)......but a pocket a clean air on chest area and helmet.
I have the 2015 1290 SA and honestly never had any issues with the windscreen, unfortunately an off road spill forced me to start looking for a new one. I ordered a screen for the new s model and it works great with a better view as well
Unfortunately this screen also broke at the mounting holes , over time I think they became stressed and cracked. I now have a WRS screen. It’s an awesome screen, still large enough for touring and not to big when all the way down for trails. Definitely has worked well for me.
I tried a Puig touring screen on my 2017 1290 SAR because the wind bufferting when I wore my Shoei Neotec2 was deafening. While the Puig was ok. I found a better solution and went back to the small factory screen but simply purchased a different helmet that had a peak, the Touratech Carbon Adventuro. The look of the bike is better and helmet bufferting is minimal.
As much touring as you do I cant blame you for the larger shield but personally I like the stock one better If I was riding it I might think different.
That intro 🤣🤣🤣 can’t wait to see what the new complaint will be 😂. Screen looks good! I like you, have no complaints with the factory shield. I’ve used Puig screens on my past two bikes and liked them a lot. This screen may be too tall for me only being 5’7” though, so maybe the sport option will be better for me. Now go clean that bug!
I'll have to check to see if I can flip my mount around of if it's already in the lower of the 2 positions. This one is so clean though, I don't really mind looking through it.
So I did flip the mounts to lower it last night. Won't get to test it for a couple of days (T-storms) but in just sitting on the bike last night, in the lower position I can just barely look over it now.
Thanks for the update Mario!!! I prefer to look over screens rather than through them. I barely see over the stock one in the standard low position as it is, lol.
I also use the Puig touring on my 1290 sat. Better than stock, but still a lot of turbolence around the shoulders. I have put a windscreen extender on it + some bmw winglets from a R1200gs Adventure... Better but still piss poor wind protection on that bike compared to the GSA I came from.
I bought one of these for my 1190 and it shattered at the bolts so I wouldn't recommend this product plus the fact its only 3mm thick, I then bought a Touratech high screen and it's not as high as the Puig and it's 5mm thick so I highly recommend the one from Touratech. Also I don't like looking through a screen, I think it's dangerous. Excellent Video.
i just orded the touring plus version, is this the one you have? i orded it because of your review, iam 6.2 and the oem just sucks, causes allot of tourbulance on my helmet , i firdt thought my helmet eas crap, but when i bought a 500 dolara toruing helmet , still same problems.
Nice review. Bike looks real clean now in your videos with the new screen and mirrors. I'll be curious how you like it in the rain looking through it instead of over it? Keep up the good work!
Doubt I'll mind looking through it in the rain. Always ran the factory screen higher in the rain and the same on my FJR. As speed the water rolls off fast enough to not inhibit my vision. I'm sure I'll get caught out in the rain soon enough to test it.
Cleaning the OEM the 1st time had me looking at wind screens. I'm not sure I want to look through the screen. I wonder if I can have my factory one tinted. That would look cool
When I first put on my Cali Sci it was too high and I had to look through it. I flipped the KTM mounting arms and it dropped it enough that in the low position I look over it.
Windscreen looks nice. I was just wondering do you prefer looking through the windshield or over it and if you do prefer over it I can see a Back in the Garage episode on how to modify your windscreen.
I like the look of the windscreen and was thinking of giving it a try.....unfortunately according to their website it will fit a 2015 and 2016 KTM 1290 SA T, but not the 2017 SA-T....They must of changed part of the design on the 2017, headlight protectors that work on the 15 & 16 won't fit on the 17........You now wearing Klim? Been very happy with my Latitude Jacket and Pant combo.....
Aside from an additional decal ("t") I don't believe there as ANY difference between the 15/16 and 17 models. I'd see no reason this screen wouldn't fit. Did you try the headlight protectors and confirm they wouldn't work? I did switch to Klim. I'll likely do a video on the new riding gear at some point.
@@2WR I exchanged emails with the suppliers about the headlight protector and one about the Puig windscreen....both said according to their info they wouldn't fit a 2017.....I'll call them next time to see if they can confirm/explain why they wouldn't work on a 17.....
Now that you have some time on the '16 1290SA with the new Puig Touring windshield, since I am 6' 2" and change at 240 lbs, with the same (exact) bike, do you feel this is a good windshield when hitting any parts of my body outside the windshield or my stock panniers ... especially when it comes to buffeting? BTW - I am not a fan of the stock windshield.
For the money, it's tough to beat. Everyone is going to have their opinion and preference but all the other windscreens are about $180+ versus the $120 or so for the Puig (which I've had good luck with Puig in the past). It's always a guessing game when it comes to windscreens and different torso lengths and helmets but given that the SA has adjustability for the windscreen, I'd think you'd be happy(ier) with it. Get it off Amazon (or somewhere else with a good return policy) and you can always return if you don't like it.
How’s the glare? I bought a new touring windscreen and hate it because my handlebars were reflecting on the inside of the windscreen and it created such a distraction. Just wondering if you have any problems with that.
Do You still like Your windshield? I'm thinking about getting one..tired og cleaning my stock one, I'm 6' I'd like to ride with my seat in the upper position but I get way to much helmet buffeting. Looks like a good cure..thanks
The worst windscreen I’ve ever experienced is the stock one on the new 790 Adventure R. I wonder if Puig have managed to sort something decent out for that bike yet?

Some who griped about the previous view may well now bitch about the reflections of the instruments. Really, though, griping about the view from someone else's bike seems rather pointless. Might want to avoid riding near a river at dusk at certain times of the year, though; a few years ago I was coming home from PA, riding down US15 along the Susquehanna above Harrisburg, hit so many bugs I had to stop three times to clear my face shield!

I ordered and installed this too. What a difference compared to the stock screen. I can ride with my open helmet all the time now. No wind at all.
I have original wind shield and feels buferind and helmet vibration, after you change it, bufering an vibration has gone?
@@mbmotoriga3109 yes, no more buffering. I am 1,85m.

I have the Puig and love it! Sooooo much better than stock
Even with the bug and the horizontal reflection, it is far superior to your old kaleidoscope windshield. Thank you.
Had one on my last two GSs, great piece of kit..bit too much protection on the GSA in hot weather...great VFM.
Currently looking for a screen for my 2019 KTM 1290 SaS, I like the Touratech one but I think the Puig Touring looks the best...not many option for me here in Ireland.

Hey! I got mine first this time!! ;)
Puig also has a headlight protector thats clear
What about the refection at eye level, presumably from the instruments, as seen in the video. Worse at night?
Keep in ming the camera isn't at eye level so video is a bit deceiving. I've has zero issue with any instrument reflection day or night.
If you want it lower you can take the factory brackets off and turn them upside down this will lower the screen about another 1inch
I'm gonna to that tonight to see if it makes much of a difference.
So I did flip the brackets and now I can barely see over the top of it. I'll do some testing once the t-storms clear out.
Windscreen looks nice. I was just wondering do you prefer looking through the windshield or over it and if you do prefer over it I can see a Back in the Garage episode on how to modify your windscreen.
