- During a raid, Léon (Jean Reno from Godzilla and The Big Blue) threatened a man with a knife. He orders him to call a number. Léon takes the phone… | Buy or rent Léon: The Professional here: amzo.in/movie/isv/leon-the-pr...
Léon, the top hit man in New York, has earned a rep as an effective "cleaner". But when his next-door neighbors are wiped out by a loose-cannon DEA agent, he becomes the unwilling custodian of 12-year-old Mathilda. Before long, Mathilda's thoughts turn to revenge, and she considers following in Léon's footsteps.

Before John Wick, there was Léon.
Léon would eat John Wick's puppy for breakfast lmao!
And right between em' is Ghost Dog
Before Lèon there was Arthur Bishop
Would be sick to bring him into the Wick franchise
@@williamtoad8040 Arthur Bishop (2011) came 16 years later than Léon (1994)
When top quality films were still made. Reno is so cool it hurts!
I understand what you're saying.
100%
quality films ended in 1976. everything after is pulp pop
seriously. and not to say hes dressed poorly, but rather, i doubt any other actor could pull off this roll with this outfit. you basically _have_ to be a french badass for it to work
@@bogaczew80s and 90s had incredible movies. What are you on about

Gary Oldmans favorite food is scenery.
😂 shittttttttttt
Don't you like exclamation points?
This movie is an absolute masterpiece
The best HITMAN movie ever made !
for pedophiles?
I can’t believe this movie is 30 years old! Still iconic AF.
Way!
What a great film. I remember Gary Oldman really scared the shit out of me when I was a kid. Just his unpredictable nature made me so uneasy. What a villain.
He's a great villain. Also awesome as Drexl in True Romance.
Me too. Back during cable television I caught this movie channel surfing in my early teens and I remember him cracking his neck gave me an uneasy feeling
Cop: What do you mean everybody?
Oldman: "I MEAN EVERYBODY!"
EVERYONE!
Still find it hard to fathom that Mo Harris from Eastenders is Gary Oldman's sister.
Mind you,
she is also a class actress in her own rite.
Criminals: We don't call 911.
Leon: I can make you.
Good one
😂😂😂😂
I understand.
The 90's were a different world.
Gas was $1.09
Best decade for film. Those days are long gone.
wacky ass
@@tovsteh I would say the 90's was the end of decent film, golden age was 60's to 80's
Man, that is the truth.
The 90's has a ton of great movies. This is one of them.
Looking for the remake "Matilda"...

@@absolutetuber up and coming
@@absolutetuber And of course they did send the black guy alone down the stairs, the one way, the killer could have come up, since he wasnt in the elevator :D
In France the word "sérieux" means someone who's reliable, professional -- when you hire someone, you want someone who's "sérieux"!
@@Daniel-rd6st At least they gave him a job. XD
I like how he's happy to be alive . Even though he has half of Bolivia in a couple of suitcases and the cops downstairs.
How to give an overweight guy a heart attack 101.
I always thought the same thing as a kid
It ain't even cut yet.
I think that’s the point. Leon scared him so brutally shitless that he was instantly willing to go to prison just to get away from him.
He’ll just divide that up with the cops, and it’ll all be swept under the rug 😂
Still on of the most gripping cinema scenes ever........ love the fading in and out of Léon 'do you understand' ! ! ! !
Yeah. That cinematic take when he comes from the shadows, and vanish in the shadows made the movie industry for 20 years to try replicate that cool factor.
Seeing it again after so many years, I never noticed how Leon corrects his grip of the knife at one point, and then how he looks at the phone after the call.
It is partially comical that both stare the hooker when She goes by... You can forget that part easily.
He never even makes the guy drop his gun. Just methodically shrinks then controls his world.
Back when villains were not so stupid yet. The hero was just way too cool for them
and they felt real with a personality
The way he banished in the shadows at the end is insane brilliant, Leon more than a gun man is a modern ninja haha.
The fat guy did some awesome acting!
The fat guy😂. My man has a super computer at his finger tips to look up the actors name. “Fat guy” hahahahaaaaa
I thought the same while watching him
Some films. Are beautifully un-remake-able.
What's funny is that this movie was "inspired" by Cassavette's "Gloria". I love both for different reasons.
They had to trash La Femme Nikita, which is on par with this movie. It's grittier and not as refined as this one. And Reno is in that one too as Viktor the Cleaner.
I have to hand it to the big guy his panicked state felt real. Just imagine the adrenaline pumping and then the relief when you realise you'll live to see another day!
"There's somebody coming up he's serious" then the guy cleans up the dregs off of the table lmfao
That the bat part
I like how they scripted this like Leon is the villain in a horror movie.
There are a lot of memorable scenes and shots, but 6:29 them both watching this lady walking out always cracks me up
That's the real life Mathilda that inspired the movie, Maïwenn Le Besco, Luc Besson's wife at the time, he started dating her when he was 32 and she was 15. He later dumped her for Milla Jovovich when filming the Fifth Element
@@MrGenedancingmachine yet another sketchy detail in a very sketchy, but dope film nonetheless.
I like that scene
Leon knew she's not a treat and will not speak about it forever..
Let her live😅😅
@@camionerosfurgoneros5915 it's not just that: "No women, no kids" is one of his golden rules.
@@mescaLEOso what happens if a woman was shooting at him?
This is when I saw brilliance from Mr. Jean Reno
Janet Reno is the best.
Love Rudy Guilianni as the hotel employee.😂
I actually thought it was Abe Vigoda at first
I said out loud “is that fucking Rudy Giuliani?!”
The eyebrow rising when he says "he wants to talk to you" LOL
Makes me appreciate in films like these the henchmen also have a distinct cool factor to them despite being in one scene. I don't know why these guys carry that cool when so many films don't manage to capture it.
The music in this movie elevates it so much❗️🔥
It's by Éric Serra, same guy who composed the music for Goldeneye.
I knew it sounded familiar!
Everything about the introduction of Leon in this movie was amazing. Barely spoke, sly killer not using loud guns, let fear get the better of his opponents. Then when he did speak: "Dial this number ... Yes ... Do you understand? So say ... Good" (backs into shadows) So amazing. This scene never gets old.
Oh Yeah, Jean Reno Was Great In Ronin, Too! Actually, He Saved The Day! Thank You.
Even though there’s an assassin coming, I like the dude getting every bit of coke off that mirror. 🤣
The killer guy should’ve gotten them some addiction help. Now that’s a movie we can all enjoy.
Dedication to the craft.
I like the dude who goes out after the camera went dark.😂 A real genius
Isn't it to get high, to heighten his senses? so he can deal with the attacker?
@@finc4164 no, dingus. It’s because he really likes cocaine. It’s very addictive to some people.
Great movie. Have loved Luc Besson films since "The Big Blue". Reno is great in that too.
Reno dans le Grand bleu est monumental !
Of a certain age, you will understand how great a film this is. It derives from La Femme Nakita, but never knowingly. I remember seeing this at the cinema originally. Unbelievable. Gary Oldman was almost other-worldly. Reno....it goes without saying. Coolest cat out there. Danny Aiello. Nuff said. Genius film and viewpoint never improved.... even by Besson himself who has tried several times. Top Ten Films of any good taste and film knowledge as far as I am concerned.
Im not sure of the connection with La Femme Nikita, one of my all time favorite movies. The remake point of no return was ok I suppose.
how does this derive from it though?
The only connection I’m aware of is Jean Reno played Victor the Cleaner a similar character. Love both these films
I forgot to mention same director
Both are great movies but La Femme Nikita had Annie Parilaud the professional had Natalie Portman NO CONTEST.
Was Luc Besson not involved in both those franchises?
They don’t make movies like this anymore…
They can’t, it’ll illegal to have cool masculine badasses anymore. They all have to be gay and gay isn’t cool.
They never did, only this one.
The way he emerged from the shows is iconic. Dude is cold as hell
Unbelievably good sound design and score, this whole scene is 10/10!
Jean Reno is absolutely brilliant.
I remember convincing my brother to come and see this in the cinema. He was like, whats it about? I said just wait and see. I only read a review about it in empire mag and i knew i would like it. 😊
Everyone is John Wick!
Until Leon steps into the same toilet!
They do not make movies like this anymore ❤
That’s a fact
No, just in real life when powerful Democrats want to unalive you
@@GaryFalcon411when the silly worm forgets to blame the Republicans equally in on the mess with their stupidity….
Because of the underage innuendo "and the actial age of the actress," you will never see a movie quite like this again. Apart from that, it's a really good movie, though.
the movie with orgins to pedophilia. great child abuse stuff
You actually feel every bit of the guys anxiety. The panic running around and doing everything on impulse. Even when he grabs the phone he wasn’t actually looking for the phone. He just saw it while running chaotically. Guy killed it with the little screen time he had.
I watched this for first time when I was 15 in 95 and I remember being terrified of the killer in this scene. Amazing movie, good old times. Always thought Portman was younger tho, came to realize she same age as me like 10 years later when I saw closer in theaters
1:36 notice how Leon appears in frame? a shadow. sudden and quiet, like death itself. and when he lets the girl in after the shooting - he appears as light on Mathilda's face.
Why do I keep seeing this recommendation? I love it. I watched it twice last week. Then...yt algorithm started to remind me of things I'm trying to forget. 😂😂😂
I dunno why i always think of the bodyguards having wives and kids. But this dude gets to live
The opening shots of this scene are TOP TIER
Turns around.. Jumps when he see's nothing.
Actually, my favorite scene of the movie.

Awesome director, the best actors.
This and the big blue are up there in my top 10, classics
What a film! Still my favourite to this day

The way he disappears too far, you feel like the hand is not his 😅
What a Film, and what a Cast.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Rudy Guiliani traveled back in time to 1994 and became a door man LOL
Great movie
I wish they still made movies like this.
Wait the soundtrack is the same from 007 goldeneye? Just listen to the background music, i love it..
One of the best action movies ever made and it's got plenty of humor and soul
He did not blink!!
One of the finest films of its, or indeed any, genre.
The is an amazing film but The Big Blue is miles better. Jean Reno Is a great actor and i like in so many films. Even bad ones.

The filmmaking was extraordinaire.

This movie is so amazing non stop action
When I first watched this film I missed this first bit. It didn’t matter. I always felt this was just a way to show Leon’s skills and it feels a bit like from a different film.
It's a great film
Best movie ever!
Love the name and pic

Movie perfection.
I always considered it unjust that he killed the whole crew except the main gang leader. Great movie though!
"Serious" was a bit of an understatement.
Awesome movie!
Love the part when heavy breathing stops.
" i understand": Reno is a very good teacher
The perfect film
Que j'aime ce film...avec Nikita, Léon est un exemple du genre! Le role de Léon s'inspire d'ailleurs du personnage Victor joué par Jean Réno dans Nikita!😎
Utterly brilliant film 👍👍👍👍

1:25 That’s Luc Besson’s then-wife, Maïwen. She was underaged. He groomed her and then eventually abandon her and their child to run off with Milla Jovavich during The Fifth Element. Milla was young enough to be his daughter and barely in her 20s.
