CASKET shopping is NOTHING like you've EVER shopped for before!

  • Remember that casket shopping is a significant aspect of funeral planning, and it's essential to approach it with care and consideration for both your loved one's wishes and your financial situation while avoiding the dreaded up-sell. PLAN AHEAD!!!
SIDE NOTE: I forgot to mention urns for cremation remains....do not buy them at the funeral home. $$$$. Amazon actually sells them and larger funeral homes have storage for remains that you can rent for a small fee until you decide what to do.
NOTE: Coffins have six sides. They are tapered at the head and feet, and they are wider at the shoulders. Caskets are rectangular in shape and have four sides. In addition, they have long rails along the sides to make transportation by pallbearers easier
    Here are a few tips;
    1) Set and Stick to a Budget: Emotional decisions can lead to overspending. Having a predetermined budget will help you make a financially responsible choice.
    2) Check Financial Allotments: Determine if there are any funds allocated for the casket, such as from a pre-arranged plan or life insurance policy. This can affect your budgeting decisions.
    3) Consider Cremation: If the deceased wishes for cremation, you can skip the expense of a casket altogether and opt for a rental casket or use a simple container for the viewing or service.
    4) Respect the Deceased's Wishes: Always prioritize the deceased's wishes regarding their funeral arrangements. Even if you have different opinions or family members disagree, it's important to honor their desires.
    5) Shop Around for Caskets: Don't assume you have to buy the casket from the funeral home. You can purchase one from an alternative source and have it delivered to the funeral home. Allow for adequate lead time to ensure it arrives on time.
    6) Bring a Supportive Friend: Casket shopping can be emotionally challenging. Bringing a trusted friend can provide moral support and help you make objective decisions.
Cheers, and wishing you great health. Tony

For me, the process was overwhelming. And the whole shopping experience just seemed strange and inappropriate after caring for my parents. But I was shopping online when caskets showed up in my - recommended for you. I know I'm over 50 now and a cancer survivor, but it was very depressing to see caskets recommended for me when I'm shopping for paper towels and laundry detergent. But there are many more options available nowadays.

First of all...congratulations on being a cancer survivor. A very dear friend of mine was recently diagnosed with a very bad breast cancer and I am very sad but hopeful.
Secondly, bad on Amazon to make a suggestion. It's like - we're gonna get all your money up until the end. So annoying. I must admit I am so curious now to take a look but then it'l be in my searches forever. I'm sure there is a huge selection.
Yes, the process is quite surreal and I think no matter how much you prepare yourself it puts a harsh light on a reality that we would all rather not think about. At the same time, the last thing we want when we are faced with loss or our own mortality is being taken advantage of....dying unfortunately is big business.
However by the same token, it will hopefully inspire us to remember to live and try to be happy and enjoy the smallest moments.
      Cheers Tony

@@maletenance I’m sorry to hear about your friend being diagnosed with cancer. I’ll be praying for her or him.
And you are so right. Sometimes the greatest joys are found in small, unexpected moments.

WOW, I had no idea, will be dealing with cremation at some point, got it in my mind that it would be quite straight forward and fairly simple process. Going to have a discussion now and try and work a few things out. Thanks for taking the time to make this video. !

I forgot to talk about Urns. Don't purchase it at the funeral home.....way to expensive. Amazon actually sells them. I really need to make more notes when I do the videos - I forgot, some funeral homes offer storage for urns if you have not yet decided what to do with the remains, which they don't tell you because it's very inexpensive. I think I'll have to make a part 2. Thanks for watching and subscribing. Cheers.
