Shanahan has always been more of an offensive coordinator than an authentic head coach, and that worked fine when he had Saleh or Ryans running the defense like the future head coaches they are. But now, with a rookie defensive coordinator and a special teams coach in shambles, the cracks are showing. The Niners have lost talent everywhere-players, coaches, even the front office-and the team looks exhausted after years of brutal, relentless football; since 2021, they've played the most football games second only to Kansas City, and the past two seasons they've had historically savage negative rest differentials. Injuries are piling up, gifted and diligent rookies are hitting the wall, and Shanahan’s high-difficulty play-calling is asking way too much of a team running on fumes and disorder. Brock Purdy is surpassing standards -throwing into tight windows, scrambling when plays break down [for more, see JT O'Sullivan's QB School, a weekly, play-by-play analysis of Purdy’s performance]-but Shanahan’s overcomplicated schemes demand perfection every play. (It’s like asking a Tool cover band to crush a 12-song set with zero slip-ups. It’s just not realistic.) This team needs simpler, rhythm-building play calls that let the talent shine without constantly forcing everyone to be flawless. Give the players a chance to settle in, sustain drives, and make dynamic and impactful plays stemming from their overflowing skills, talent, and experience without constantly fighting fatigue and chaos. If Shanahan wants to salvage this season, he’s got to simplify the game plan and fully embrace his role as a holistic head coach. That means focusing on the fundamentals: discipline, execution, toughness, situational smarts, and teamwork. He’s got to rally the whole squad-coaches and players alike-to believe and breathe those core principles. If he can’t, the Niners might not make a deep playoff run or even make it at all. Long-term, Shanahan needs to bring in a killer defensive coordinator who can again free him up to focus on offense without the rest of the team falling apart. Let’s hope he figures it out for the Faithful's sake-because this team has too much talent to waste.
@BOC4ALL it was a terrible pick. I have never seen a worse pick when you consider what Shanahan Values. A quick passer who makes up his mind and plays with timing. Nothing about that was ever Trey Lance but they drafted him anyway. It will haunt the franchise at least 2 to 3 more years cause of all the picks yt hey gave up. If even half those picks panned out this would be a much better team!
Purdy's decisions to run may or may not be sound, but his repeated failure to slide feet forward can only result in enhanced liability to be injured. It is reckless. Artificial turf tends to be hard, so being slammed down on a shoulder or to get head-bashed by defenses not surprisingly produces concussions of the rotator cup or brain. Sure, teammates may applaud Purdy's literal demonstration of leadership, but what price glory? I watched Mike Shanahan keep playing his QB, the gifted but doomed RG3, even while the guy was badly limping. (Kyle was also coaching for his dad at the Redskins at the time.) That game for all practical purposes ended RG3's professional career. Would Kyle follow his father's example, if the wounded warrior was CMC, Purdy, Mason, Kittle or Jennings? If the playoffs or even Superbowl were likely dependent on a star player continuing, fighting through the injury, the 49ers may discover like father, like son. So far, Kyle has been giving the players time to heal some. But the pattern of overuse of certain players, such as Bosa, on the one hand and Purdy recklessly running headfirst like a FB on the other, a game may soon arise before Kyle when too many key players go down to injury for the 49ers to survive as a winning franchise. Separately, some sportswriter should ask Kyle if the 49ers football equipment can be improved so that the equipment absorbs & contains the force of tackles or hard slams to the turf, rather than the human body. The size and speed of current pro football players makes the impact of collisions almost humanly unsustainable without better equipment. Fans don't like to see their favorite teams playing games without their star players, due to injuries. An example is the Jaguars, where Trevor Lawrence sits out with an injured shoulder. How can the NFL Admin and tv bosses not see the fallen wounded and not demand better engineered equipment?
Zero accountability, continue to run Mcaffery when you got two backs that are younger, faster, stronger….well at least they will have a good Thanksgiving when the Shanahans and the Mcafferys get together. Only problem is the TEAM is in the toilet but the relationship remains intact. Ok
Hello Matty. The biggest mistake Kyle made was hiring Sorensen. The niners are at the bottom of the rankings in losing games in the 4th quarter. With Wilks they were at close to the top. Kyle is too nice to do anything about it. Listen to Baldys overall comments . It's always next week then following week with no changes. Sorensen should have known about possible Geno's running. That's what's makes a solid DC. Appreciate your videos and am a subscriber
You're not going to win and win many games in the NFL when your biggest money players aren't healthy and on the field competing (best chance to win is obviously when all are 100% healthy and all hands are on deck) and that's regardless of coaching since coaches don't play and execute the plays on the field.
And the Kyle apologists will start throwing out the old injury excuses. Yeah, like the other division and playoff contenders don’t have any injuries to deal with; they are all 100% healthy. Fact is, Kyle withered under pressure, punted the ball away, and expected his inept defense to win them a game. But of course, if Kyle’s offense wasn’t so predictable, they should have easily beat one of the worst defenses in the NFC -nope Kyle couldn’t figure it out.
Agree! 9ers have many stars, looks good on paper, but typically half of them are injured or out much of the time: CMC, Aiyuk, Kittle, JJ; Green, Ward, Hufonga, Bosa. How long will Purdy stay healthy running for his life every play? OL '23 = OL '24 = The Problem.
It seems to me that Kyle hardly ever takes responsibility for a loss. Kyle has established a MO of not being able to close out games when having a lead in the 4th quarter. I have no idea why the offense is so bland and conservative this season. I agree that the York's aren't going to fire Kyle at the end of the season. But with every loss going forward (I think there will be at least 4 more losses) the fans and the media will turn up the heat on Kyle. Penalties were a big issue. I think the 49ers do have a huge problem in that their receivers are slow and can't get separation. David, Larry and Grant reported that the Niners receivers are tied with the Cowboys for dead last in separation in the NFL. Why doesn't Kyle use the speed guys they have in Cowing and Guerendo more on offense?
*Heavy sigh* Trying to keep the faith but they are making it really hard right now. I will say JJ has been one of the bright spots . He has put the team on his back on more than one occasion and he's getting paid what... 15 milion over 2 years.
Will they be up for the challenge? Wildcard is still a possibility. Of course, the injuries are devastating, and every game there is more. We'll just have to see. I'm just an old surfer and I don't know much about football but even I can see the team needs work! Aloha

Dysfunction is the vibe now, and I have a feeling, the same cultural division we are dealing with as fans has also crept into the lock room too.
As an observer of team dynamics, the 49ers don’t exhibit a winning, integrated dynamic. There are telltale signs: Firing black DC after SB loss. Bosa MAGA hat interview. Aiyuk hold out at beginning of the year. Samuel grabbing Pepper after 3 FG misses. There is an obvious racial rift. This is a team in name only. A fish rots from the head.

His team is loaded with talent, yet he continues to find ways of losing, including blowing late leads and a continued narrative of undisciplined team play -in other words bad coaching.
They drafted road runner speedster Cowling, but don't use him. I noticed watching other NFL games that top receivers are now more lithe, quick, and speedy, not big thick bruisers.
Always felt that Matt is the Walter Cronkite of 9ers reporters. This Seattle defeat was a watershed moment on the season akin to WCs reporting in Vietnam.
Kyle needs to go. He is terrible. But y'all can keep banging your head against the wall but nothing will change with him as head coach. What a waste of a great team of players.
I agree they will not fire Kyle. I do have my issues with his play calling some times but there isn't anyone else out there that can get the Niners back to how they were last season.
Kyle needs to re evaluate his third down plays. He cant just have Purdy drop back to throw and hope the front line blocks for him. The defenders know they only need to blitz and the defensive line hold up their arms to deflect Purdy's passes.
This core is done. There are lots of players that are probably older and not bought in anymore. We should have started the rebuild last year. Kyle needs fresh faces in the locker room if he wants to stick around here and get any results from the team moving forward. The problem i see is kyle is not willing to do that. Him refusing to play the rookies is testament to that. Hes the real culprit here.
I watched the game today, and Brock Purdy was almost always running for his life. He rarely has the time to find open targets. Seems like whatever they tried to do, Seattle always had an answer. I think this year is toast. 49ers need to cut their losses, and start over again. Trade away some of the big names and look forward to building a winning future. I do have hope about the team's future; this year's draft is looking really good: these guys can ball! Now, get some offensive linemen that can do the same.
If they run the table they'd have 12 wins, so they would 100% get in if they end up 12-5. A more realistic goal should be 10-7 though. They'll need help to win the division with that record, but they'll be in the mix for the division and wildcard regardless. No more guarantees at this point
If they lose next week (which is a high possibility), just play all of the rookies and start evaluating for next year. Even if they miraculously get in, they are a one and done in the playoffs.
Shanahan is extremely overrated. He’s always referred to as an offensive genius. I haven’t seen anything genius about the Niners offense this season. Does Steve Spagnuolo think Shanahan is an offensive genius?
Overrated? He’s so overrated he’s the most studied play caller n the league. He’s had the #1 offense in the entire NFL twice as a Niner. Created a ROTY, a MVP, two OPOY and two runner ups for MVP. Your claim is overrated. Teams nor coaches have great years every year. See Pat Mahomes and Andy Reid’s pedestrian offense as proof.
They put a lot on his plate. There are contingencies built into every play call (based on the coverage), so he is assigned to make those adjustments as the offense calls for them or he will “can” the original call and get to the other play based on his pre-snap read.
@@mattmaiocconfl Thank you Matt. And I know that. Maybe not having Kittle out there yesterday limited Purdy's options at the line. Two plays in paticular. -You're the best Matt !!
For some time now the 49ers were noted as having the most talented team in the NFL. With this advantage, Kyle has managed to lose two Super Bowls, and now consistently lose to teams with inferior talent. He has had the capital and time to succeed . A good organization would make changes at the top to change results. Are the 49ers good enough to make those changes as the last time they were was 1995?
So it comes down to preparation. Our preparation is done by Sorenson & Schneider who have NO BUSINESS being coaches on this team. Oh and they will be with us for the next 7+ games
Lucking into Brock Purdy saved Lynch and Shanahan from the Lance debacle. Invest in the O-line to protect him. 2024 draft seems solid. Need a homerun in the 2025 draft. Tank the season and get near the top ten of the draft and maybe get Abdul Carter. Shanahan is burnt out. See if Jed feels comfortable with Ben Johnson. Make a change?
Its a crazy game plan? All CMC.. no Mason , using Deebo and he not producing.. Gurrendo( excuse the spelling) ran for a huge gain against Seahawks last time and didnt touch the ball... why doesn't anyone ask why our whole offence is CMC and basically nothing else?
They have climbed the mountain 3 years in a row and fell they can't keep doing that the fire in the eyes is gone for doing it anymore but yeah Shannahon is a big problem in many ways Lynch should talk to him and say shape up or ship out.
Post season is never going to happen, to many high priced players with guaranteed money that have no reason to put out like they did before they got guaranteed money, never could understand why you would pay someone for what they might do instead of what they did, the hunger to play hard is gone because of the guaranteed money.owners and coaches are not to smart in negotiating contracts.

I agree they will not fire Kyle. I do have my issues with his play calling some times but there isn't anyone else out there that can get the Niners back to how they were last season.
Shanny happy with their play ? I didn’t know he was happy about losing . The fans are not happy to watch them lose .
He throw the SB at the window like on the pre Season to be honest
This team needs a break from the postseason,,, just dnt see them as playoff worthy to many holes to fill. That will take a Off-season or two
Riding CMC is such an unnecessary gamble. There is no reason not to use Mason and Guerendo who proven they can contribute. What a waste.
It;s the same game every week... Poor red zone offense, subpar special teams, 3rd down defense, and untimely penalties.
to many mental errors and to many missing pieces. They could run the table and still not get in, so what I think is they will go one day at a time
If they run the table they'd have 12 wins, so they would 100% get in if they end up 12-5.
One play at the time
Stay safe, ball out
Go Niners
@@Keith-cl3thyet his team is dead last in 1st and Goal situations. Yeah sure, great play caller…great offensive study
@@axis60north Nice comeback, I give you 15 yrs of data - your retort is 10 games. Lame.
Matt. Can you tell me if Purdy has the green light to call audibles. It appears he doesn't.
Please Fire Kyle Already.
It's too bad kyle doesn't read and listen to these kinds of shows. He could actually learn something from us
Bill Billchek is available . File this choker coach now .
Trade Nick to the Panthers ASAP. This season is done.
He got out-coached. Period!
Kyle is losing the faithful….might need to switch up the marketing to “get use to it” if Kyle keeps Kyling 🙄
Just shut all the vets down.... play the rookies and get ready to trade Trent and cut Floyd cuz he's a bust
Run a hurry up offense. more up tempo, Running plays will pit more pressure on the defense.. Defense is just undisciplined
Fire Kyle❤😂🎉
If they don't win in Green Bay...they'll miss the playoffs.
They're an average team. You lose games for a reason. Because you're not good.
This team is heading to a sub .500 season. 6-11 or 7-10
49ers are gonna lose 10-11 games this year. BOOK IT.
I wanna see Grant Cohn and Matty in the same room. 💀
No you dont
We're in the same room three or four days a week. If he disagrees with me, that's fine. Hell, I live with people who disagree with me on a lot of subjects. :)
@@mattmaiocconfl 😂😂
Suddenly sub 500 season looming large in horizon 😫
Why didn't they use the tight end in the passing game?
Because he sucks.
The league has caught up to and now passed Kyle. It's pretty obvious, time to move on from him and this regime. Jed grow a pair and get Ben Johnson.
Baby steps ???? This choker coach has wasted our great talent . He is so arrogant , never learns from his mistakes .
Greenbay is gonna annihilate the Niners! My money is on the Packers!
I'll take a blowout loss over one of these heart wrenching losses any day.
And then Buffalo will smoke them the following week which means they will be 5-7 after 12 games. They are done.
Getting cold outta here at Levis , let's all go to Cabo with Deebo 🌞 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Shanahan is doing a poor job so he takes blame along with the GM.
John Lynch needs to step up and make a coaching change 😮
Or resign
Looking towards the draft.
New coach staff request 😊
well when you blow 2 super bowls you should be under scrutiny
No accountability Kyle ….take a close look in the mirror…..it starts with you !!!!!!!!!
Don't fire Shanahan. Trade him to the highest bidder. Use those picks to lure a new coach
It's a wrap
Hope they enjoyed their 'Trump Dance'. Losers!!!
Haha
The young 🐀 cant get it together he has lost so many big games how many chances does the guy get .
