  • I had an old Milwaukee portaban that I purchased several years ago. It was a wreck when I bought it. I never did a thing to it, just ran it. But every time I needed it it worked. Needless to say its earned a facelift. These old saws are pretty solid units and are worth picking up if you have the opportunity. How much $$ should you pay? How much $$ is worth investing to fix it up??
    Watch and find out!!
    BLADES I use:
    14TPI: amzn.to/2tZOPNB

My old portaband that’s identical to this one is the best investment and one of the most used in my shop. I built a stand that you can set it on and an easily removable table for it.

Make a table top stand for it. Zip tie the trigger and use a foot pedal it will quickly become your go to for quick cuts on projects.

That same saw was given to me. Replaced switch, tires. It started leaking oil after running it. Did you replace any gaskets on your rescue.

Great restoration! Good trick to use a compartment box to keep the screws with identification where they belong. I used ziplock and piece of paper, but there is no sense of order as opposed to the compartment where they can follow a specific order. I just bought a new portable bandsaw for 200$ + taxes (15% here!!!), so 230$ CDN (or 175$ USD). This is a King Industrial, exact same thing as the Chicago Electric sold by Harbor Freight. So to say, the cheap one! You now have a great tool in great shape for 100$, which is nice! Congratulations for 2k subscribers!

Hey Joe! Im sure you're going to fall in love with the saw. I personally have no love for abrasive disc fiber dust. The quiet, spark-less cutting the portaban offers is a welcome change. Does your saw use the 44 7/8" Blades? (Thanks for noticing the 2k subs)

Yes, it uses the 44 7/8'' blade. It came with a blade in the case described as "good for wood and plastic"... I did buy good blades along with the saw as I suspected they would have cheated on price with a fake blade! I was right! I've used the saw for a few pieces and I already love it. I'll keep the abrasive disc for special jobs. Thanks!

Im not sure how Amazon is in your area but the best deal on quality blades I've found was a 5 pack of lenox 'wolf' series for $24.99. Thanks Joe

I bought 3 Starrett blades for 30$ (23USD) at the local shop.... I'll take a look next time on Amazon!

Someone left this model and a 7" Dewalt angle grinder both thoroughly been in a fire and as a former fire and water damage restoration technician for electronics (very good lolz) and a third year IW apprentice I think it's fate telling me to get my burnt ass back to work!

Nice those are excellent tools, plus I think the new ones are not made in the US. There was one last week on craigslist for 100 bucks I should have snagged it. Take care, Dave

$100, Good price, they are pretty handy to have. The online vendor I bought the parts from said milwaukee still makes the best ones. Thanks Dave
