BABYMETAL wrote their own lines (or the BABYMETAL team to be more accurate) - originally all in English. Oli asked them to include some Japanese. Hopefully you have realised you can't possibly judge what BABYMETAL are or what they can do (and what they actually do) from just one song - three or four is the minimum to get a real idea of what they are about.
The DragonForce influence on the song you heard was due to them wanting a song in that style - and getting Herman Li and Sam Totman to write the guitar arrangements.
More melodic BABYMETAL songs ... 'Megitsune' will surprise you in many ways, 'No Rain, No Rainbow' is like an 80s rock ballad (live at Legend S Baptism XX is the best version), 'Shine' is just beautiful, 'Brand New Day' is more at the pop end of their scale but is also very smooth vocally, 'Shanti Shanti Shanti' will show you just how versatile Su-metal's vocals can be. There are many more - 'Rondo of Nightmare' gives a very good example of how good a singer Su-metal is, 'Starlight' is emotional and so on - (and only another one or two you might think of as being anything like DragonForce).

_getting Herman Li and Sam Totman to write the guitar arrangements_
It is almost another collaboration: just as Oli crafted a song which was excellent for Babymetal to join (and further shaped it after receiving their contribution), with Road of Resistance Babymetal had crafted a song for that Dragonforce sound and Herman and Sam's guitars.

I heard Babymetal offered to sing all their verses in English but Oli wanted them to keep some in Japanese so they could sing more comfortably, it truly was a thoughtful collaboration from both sides having one another in mind while creating the track

Babymetal: expect the unexpected. Every song is different, with just enough to know its by Babymetal. If you want power ballad tyoe songs: No Rain, No Rainbow or maybe Shine (lot of emotion in both these songs) . If there was a song that would best describe them, it probably would be Megitsune or Headbanger.
I like clean clear vocals as well. But for the sake of this song, it fits so well.

this type of music is normal in Babymetal Universe , here the simple formula me can think for all Babymetal songs : " J-Pop + Metal + 2 or 3 other genre " and on the third album they added more genre from around the world , from 40+ songs they have not single one of them sound the same.

You've said melodic minor vocal lines! Thats what jpop is known for. While japanese music have their own common chord progressions akin to the 4 chord, those common chord progressions traverse in the minor pentatonic scale which allows more variety but samey, hence the anime comparisons. For clear view of that, try react to babymetal - megitsune. It uses a traditional folk japanese song.

Awesome reaction. This is my favorite song on the EP, but then I'm a big Babymetal fan. :) I recommend Babymetal's song Megitsune next. It's pretty heavy and, like Kingslayer, has some synths mixed in.
    th-cam.com/video/cK3NMZAUKGw/w-d-xo.html
The girls are really young in this official music video, as it is one of their first, but they are in their early 20s now. They invited Bring Me the Horizon to play some shows with them in Japan in November last year as part of their larger Metal Galaxy World Tour promoting their third album. One of the original members, Yui Mizuno (Yuimetal), officially left the band a couple of years ago, leaving Suzuka Nakamoto (Su-Metal, the lead singer) and Moa Kikuchi (Moametal, dance and backing vocals).
One of Babymetal's darkest songs, and another big recommend, is "Rondo of Nightmare" with the Mischiefs of the Metal Gods instrumental intro, live at Budokan in 2014: th-cam.com/video/8WBDiLMNZcE/w-d-xo.html. This one is a "Su solo," so the other girls are back stage taking a breather.

Road of Resistance is a very bad choise to showcase Babymetal to someone, as bad choise as Gimme Chocolate. The two songs give a wrong reaction, leading people to say Dragonforce or childish, they need to listen to them after they know whats happening. Newer staff is way better to introduce someone to Babymetal, then go back to older and unique songs.

It seems to me like you don't have a very accurate impression about BABYMETAL. Their catalogue is very diverse, but melodic, catchy choruses are very prominent, so this chorus here wouldn't really stand out among them. "Road of Resistance" is not very tpyical in that regard, as it contains very little of the cute, poppy elements. If you are interested to see another side, please check out "Megitsune", for example, which is the most quintessential BABYMETAL song, in my opinion: th-cam.com/video/cK3NMZAUKGw/w-d-xo.html

you cant judge Babymetal while you only reacted to one song. otherwise you would understand this is normal Babymetal. BMTH actually opened for Babymetal last year in Japan on a few dates. this is how a collaberation should work. both bands shine with their styles and it blends so good. the vocals were toned to sound like old radio sounds. the album was like in a post apocaliptic future so the processed vocals fit the meaning.

For more exposure to SU-METAL's voice her solo dongs are perfect: "No Rain, No Rainbow" Legend S, "Akatuski" and "Rondo of Nightmare" from Budokan and "Amore" from... somewhere (I can't remember :P ) most of these links are already in the comments.

No one is mentioning about MIck Gordon's participation in this EP's production. Mick Gordon is a producer/musician best known for his game soundtracks (Doom 2016, Doom Eternal, Wolfenstein) hence the "glitchy vocals" and "grungy industrial" guitars and effects. If you wish to check him out, try "Rip and Tear", "BFG Division", "Slayer Gates" (chants are of heavy metal band vocalists) "Cultist Base" (guitar sound is of a f*cking CHAINSAW) or "Gladiator Boss" just to name a few.

It's interesting how it's mostly Babymetal fans watching and commenting under reactions to this song. Shows how dedicated this fanbase is.
Babymetal is a group you can't make many assumptions about. As fans we still get surprised by their new works each time let alone you who's only heard one song. Most of their songs have very melodic vocals including Road of Resistance, but it might've been 'hidden' by everything else going on in that song. The pre-choruses of Road of Resistance are to me some of the catchiest Babymetal parts vocally. Check out the official video for 'Megitsune'. It's quite heavy but very melodic and I think you'll love it.

I'm not surprised at your shock. Most people don't realize that Su is fluent in English.
She's also on video at concerts speaking German, French, Dutch, and Finnish.
She really tries hard to communicate with her audience. Which is more impressive, because she's actually very introverted by nature.

The two Babymetal songs which are most like this sonically are "Arkadia" and "Distortion." There is an Official Video for "Distortion; for "Arkadia" I recommend you listen to the album version, the audio is cleaner and the vocals are clearer than live. Two others which come close are "Tales of the Destinies" and "BxMxC," they will take you to quite different musical places.

It actually feels more like BMTH made the song sound a lot like a BABYMETAL song, 'cause this is actually a normal style for BM, and in turn, making the two vocalists blend sooo well together and making this song sound like an OST for an awesome hard-hitting action anime or live action movie. This would even fit well in the upcoming Matrix film or even the upcoming Bleach anime revival/final season. I think if this was promoted in Japan, this would really be a big hit and be successful with the Japanese fans. Perfection!

BabyMetal is a super diverse genre band with tons of different styles of music under there belt. Its quite forgiveable for people to have heard one or 2 of there songs and think they have a good handle on the band, but once you start listening to more you kind of get it. The best way to explain it is BabyMetal has a unique feel to there music (lots of transistions, clear vocals, ect) that makes up there feel, however the genres they tackle range from Deathmetal, heavymetal, grundge, rock, 80's pop, techno, eurobeats, hairbands, rap, and the list goes on. While you may not want to do a bunch of baby metal reactions for your channel, it would do you good bit to listen to there latest album Metal Galaxy (which took number 1 for metal on Billboard in the USA) in your own time. As for the song of theres you reacted to that sounded like dragonforce, well thats because it was written to sound like dragonforce and then ended up being a collaboration with dragonforce when they came on and wrote some of the guitar rifts for it.

Su-metal is a versatile vocalist, she is melodic but she can do other styles as well. The group also experiments a lot, so Road of Resistance is just one sound. A good song to showcase Su that is melodic is No Rain No Rainbow - Legend S version live. Shine is a good one too. th-cam.com/video/VsNgGF47YZo/w-d-xo.html The video is taken from two performances so it lacks a certain continuity, but is a beautiful song. If you want to see other aspects, check out Shanti Shanti Shanti which is Bollywood influenced or BxMxC where she raps.

If you didnt like the over processing...means you did not understand the song! "system failure" "your corrupted" wake up shut up back up your a puppet... The reason for japanese lyrics...because the english language will not let you "staccato" note for note ... japanese lyrics were on point with the instruments timing. English in metal comes across like a power ballad... unless your cussing. If you really want to be in awe... listen to Babymetal and you will figure out why the bass player has a 7 string bass. He can match the drummers double kicks note for note... now thats epic. What would you expect from a country that produces 90% of the equipment bands use...

I've to agree with you, while I do undertand they were looking for a cyberpunk kind of sound here, heavy vocal distortion is not really my thing, it works here as it has a purpose. BABYMETAL have so many different songs, but my guess is that Distortion is the closest one, though between the new ones, The Trilogy of Light as a whole is amazing (they are three songs: Starlight, Shine and Arkadia, Shine being my favourite). 🤘🦊⚡

Hey! Seems like fans guided you the wrong way for Babymetal, there are two songs that you don't have to listen for a first time with the band, they are Road of Resistance and Gimme Chocolate. The first one leads people to say Dragonforce, and it sounds like that because they collaborated in it but reactor doesn't know it and misunderstands it. And the other while is their most popular older song, it's different and confuses people making they believe they are as childish as they supposed, but they do it in purpose in that song and a few more.
In the past years it was hard to explain and show Babymetal to people because there are too many songs with different sub genres and rythms, but now a day I would pick some of their last album to showcase Babymetal, probably BxMxC or one of the trilogy of stars, Starlight, Arcadia or Shine, then go back to older staff.
    Give them a chance!

If you interested in song structure and how they delivered..
Then Babymetal had a big catalouge for you
They are famous for blending and mixing genre
power/trash/death/black/pirate/folk metal, ballad, R&B, hip hop, enka (japanese traditional style), reggae, bubblegum pop, progressive, techno, EDM, latin, etc...
They had a ton arsenal of proffesional song writer,
Every song is big project.. its safe to assume that you will get the best of them in every song..
Maybe it will hit or miss for some people.. but worth a try...
    React to Babymetal ...??
    Expect the unexpected ... 😀😀

Love country music and love BABYMETAL! I'll check out your tracks.
Criminal to autotune Su- even for effect, but it does sound great. Best song on the new BMTH album.

More melodic in minor. Check out Babymetal "Akatsuki" live at Budokan Black Night.

I highly recommend listening to anything off of XXXTENTACION’s ? Or 17 albums. He puts so much emotion in his music that will sweep you off your feet. I will continue to recommend him on almost every video you produce. I still love the content as always thank you!!

Good reaction... Babymetal do many different things, they delve into many different styles, so it's impossible to classify them just by hearing one song (they are impossible to classify anyway, beyond being a j-pop / metal fusion). Road of Resistance is more of an anthem going at full speed, but they have several more melodic songs (and the lead singer, Su, continues growing and getting better).

I liked Oli's voice being pushed really unnaturally because it exaggerates the contrast with BabyMetal's vocals.
