So I have my 65 inch TCL r635 from 2020 and that has EVERYTHING this tv has. I’m glad I went with the 2020 6 Series. Best choice I’ve ever made for tech.
I’m planning on doing the same. Looking to get the 75r635. How long have you had it? Any problems or issues? I’m upgrading my 8yr old Samsung. Hard to switch brands worrying ability quality and longevity
3:25 - No. No coming back from my disappointment. What is this thing, TCL!? 65" R635 Owner here... do NOT make me go HISENSE U8. --no HDMI 2.1-- (grumble) (grumble).
This is the new TV I've been waiting for. Can't wait for your review. I still like to go to the theater, but think that an 85" in my home theater room can get me close to that cinema experience. Games should look awesome on this beast too!
With not going to movie theaters I recently bought 70" 4K HDR 10 tv vs the 50" 1080p we used to have. I sit like 5ish feet from it and is the perfect size to be immersed in the content in addition to my 5.1 surround sound and hue bulbs.
I purchased the TCL 75 inch series 8 in December of 2020 which was the biggest and best offering TCL had at the time. If this new 85 inch delivers comparable (hopefully better) picture quality the viewing experience would be truly enjoyable. However, it really needs to be coupled with a robust surround sound system to do justice to a TV like this. When I added the Sonos Arc coupled with the 3rd Gen Sub to mine it took the entire viewing experience to a whole new level of enjoyment. I also went with a highly adjustable tilt and rotation wall mount setup yielding much better viewing angles and I'm sure would do the same for this 85 inch.
Caleb, you are like a CLONE of my friend Keith 30 years ago! It's uncanny! When I watch your videos, all I can see is my friend Keith! They say everybody has a double! Well, yours is called Keith, and he lives in London! 👍😂
If I had an 8500 sq ft house with a huge living room, I might go for this. But since I live in a small apartment, I'm fine with my 55" Samsung. I remember watching TV on a small 12" CRT TV back in the '50s and this is by far the extreme. TV buying has become for some, an obsession. I, for one, am not obsessed. There is just so much you can do to watch TV. Since most broadcast stations are still stuck in past century with 1280 x 720 transmission, then again this would be over kill. The only way you are going to get that "dynamic" brilliance that everybody goes Ahhhhh! about well, you'll need a comparable 4k or 8k disk player. Netflix, Hulu, or something else might have those Extreme High Definition films available, but again, that would be currently limited. So, thanks for the video. Interesting to watch some of the stuff people are now buying...not me.

@Plankton Correct! I just checked and you are right the specs show it is HDMI 2.0. SO I am going with LG's new TV LG 86NANO90UPA it has 2 HDMI 2.1 plus ATSC 3.0 which I have 12 stations in my area and I really wanted to try that out.

Who has TV Stands that are even big enough for these tvs? It be nice if they provide option to move the legs to the center. I would be scared to Wallmount a tv this big.
i love seeing all these huge tv's We'd never get one of these, main reason being space. We have a tv room/office, and it would NEVER fit anything larger than a 55inch tv. But I love seeing these titans, it's hilarious.
I have a projector in my basement on a painted 100"+ screen. I doubt I will replace it with another projector as 85" is big enough and it avoids the compromises of a rear projector.
Review was posted 5 days ago on their actual website, scores 4 out of 5. Pluses are Brightness, black levels, vivid colors, good motion, gaming, great sound, negatives are off angle viewing and low luminance color. They have a video posted as well but on the digital trend website
Caleb, this is going to be fun to repack and ship it back out to TCL. It seems this beast will need a professional calibrator. Best wishes to TCL on this new platform.
Comically huge indeed. I hope you get hands on a Sony A90J 77" OLED TV. That seems to be the sweet spot for an OLED TV this year especially with the price lowered to $3500 as of writing of this comment.
9:53 “movie theaters are basically closed” 🤔🤔🤔 From what I know, movie theaters are opening back up, and many have been open for the past month or two. Especially the two big chains, AMC and Regal.
Save the box in case you ever need to pack it up for returns/exchanges or if you move. Where does this TV sit in the 3/4/5/6/8 TCL series? I never liked the image quality of the theatres, I think my old plasma picture looks better. Sound on the other hand is so much better in the theatre. I think going forward the costs and setup of the sound systems is where you are going to have to invest for that theatre experience.
With a tv like this, where you have to adjust every input, do you have to adjust the input for a console that you use for both gaming and movies? Or is the tv smart enough to know you're not gaming and adjust it for you?
Which TV do you use as your main everyday TV Caleb? I am trying to decide which TV will be my next TV, I haven't upgraded for 15 years. My budget is up to $3,000 Canadian, TIA.
3:20 - 3:23 of this video signaled that this is not a TV I'd be considering to replace my older LG TV. Personally in good conscience I don't see the need of spending good money on a TV that doesn't have HDMI 2.1 in 2021. For some this TV is perfect for them and that is great, for me missing HDMI 2.1 is an oversight I can't move forward with.
I want a 120" to 150", but would require an 8k source at that size I think. 120" max for 4k for me in the room and position it would be in. Not going to spend 100k+ however
I run a 1080P DLP projector at 150", and sit as close as 6 feet, and can't see the pixel structure. The picture is beautiful. You don't need to spend 100k. Even a 4K DLP projector can be purchased for under 2k.
My daughter would make a whole ROOM out of that box! AND Dad gets an awesome TV, WIN-WIN!!

Depends on the size of your room and how many people are watching from how close. 85" can do quite well in a small theatre room.
Take in account aspect ratio too😁😁
10 feet away your good according to THX specifications ;)
15 feet
