- This video captures my bushcraft shelter build in the Australian bush from concept to December 2021. Whilst it's yet to be finished I felt that the completion of the outside mud walls culminating in the end of the year was a fitting combination for a montage video.

Wow, great effort. I have watched a few builds before, but they were all Northern Hemisphere with lots of straight soft wood available. Aussie bush is much tougher with hardwoods. Thanks for posting.

G,day mate totally enjoyed watching this video and I must say I was absolutely blown away about your craftmendship and quality work, I thought you were going to build 2nd floor because the integrity is under it , needs metal roof and tank both up and down , solar panels and batts converter etc and its bloody solid little hut

Hello, love the work and creativity expect this Basecamp shack to be enjoyed for many years to come 💪🏻👌🏻 always wanted to build my own shack or cabin been in Australia for a year now got another 3 so still time. Where are the best areas of land to do it and can I legally just walk into the bush and build a cabin out of the way without speaking to local councils? Be great if can get a response please
Hey mate, thanks for watching. In NSW, you're generally okay to do this in State Forests without asking permission. They allow camping anywhere so long as you don't cut down any standing wood or remove wood from the forest without a permit. You're not allowed to do this in any National Parks. Cheers, Alex.

Not really, they are there but unless you go looking for them you rarely see them. The most common snake I saw were Red Bellied Black snakes but they were all out on the roads near by sunning themselves. Cheers.

@Master Yoshi i had the same concerns and reading some of the other comments of people who have connected on fb and sent messages which have been read but with no response seems very much a case of severe depression and removal from all engagements i truly think alex really needs some mental health help really hope his well and seeks help to pull through his tough times n rough patch come on alex you can do it we all know you can mate greatly missed hoping you return to your healthy self
Does anyone know of any laws relating to erecting bush craft structures/creating a base camp in national parks/state forests etc? also love the vids Alex!!
Cheers Tim. As far as I understand it's not permitted in National Parks at all. In state forests it's ok so long as you don't cut down trees or live in the shelter long term.

Can someone help me with a question. I don’t understand where the TH-camrs that do this kind of stuff build this stuff. Is it just National park? Or do you have to actually buy land and do it? Someone please help!
Hi Bill5931. Thanks for watching the video. I built this in a state forest that is used for logging. You're okay to build something there as long as you don't cut down any trees even if they are dead. All materials I used I collected off the ground.
You cannot do this legally in a National Park as far as I know.

Hardens the wood makes it more resistant to rot and termites.
Hey do you think building anything like this would be possible in the outback of central Australia? It can be hard to come by good timber like that
If the resources aren't there it would be very difficult.
I guess you would have to adapt and build differently. More mud walls using smaller sized branches as support. Or even partially dugout shelter to save on wood etc.
