- I Want You to Want Me hi-def is performed by Cheap Trick in 1979 with the live Budokan overdub. The pop-rock song is originally from their second album In Color, released in September 1977 but the single did not chart in the United States. Nineteen months later, a live version from the band's successful Cheap Trick at Budokan album was released as a single and became one of their biggest hits, peaking at number seven in the US, number two in Canada, and number one in Japan. It has since become Cheap Trick's signature song.
"I Want You to Want Me" was a number-one single in Japan. Its success in Japan, as well as the success of its preceding single "Clock Strikes Ten", paved the way for Cheap Trick's concerts at Nippon Budokan in Tokyo in April 1978 which was recorded for the group's most popular album, Cheap Trick at Budokan. A live version of "I Want You to Want Me" from the album Cheap Trick at Budokan was released in 1979 and became their biggest selling single, reaching #7 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America, representing sales of one million records. In Canada, it reached #2 on the RPM national singles chart, remaining there for two weeks, and was certified Gold for the sale of 500,000 singles in September 1979. It was also the band's highest-charting single in Britain, where #CheapTrick #IWantYouToWantMe reached num 29. Source: Wikipedia - เพลง
I love Cheap Trick! ‘78 as a freshman in college, my friend Lisa and I were outside walking around the OK State University campus on a beautiful spring day. I was wearing a black Cheap Trick t shirt with huge white lettering that my boyfriend had given me. A couple of nerdy guys in a car drove by and yelled at me “How cheap of a trick, are YOU?!!”
I gave them the middle finger salute 🫡 haha! 😘
This could be a 2000's pop rock song!
It kinda was when it got a resurgence when it was covered by letters to Cleo for the movie 10things I hate about you
I want you to want me
I need you to need me
I'd love you to love me
I'm beggin' you to beg me
I want you to want me
I need you to need me
I'd love you to love me
I'll shine up my old brown shoes
I'll put on a brand new shirt
I'll get home early from work
If you say that you love me
Didn't I, didn't I, didn't I
See you cryin' (cryin, cryin')
Oh, didn't I, didn't I, didn't I
See you cryin' (cryin, cryin')
Feelin' all alone without a friend
You know you feel like dyin' (dyin', dyin')
Oh, didn't I, didn't I, didn't I
See you cryin' (cryin', cryin')
I want you to want me
I need you to need me
I'd love you to love me
I'm beggin' you to beg me
I'll shine up my old brown shoes
I'll put on a brand new shirt
I'll get home early from work
If you say that you love me
Didn't I, didn't I, didn't I
See you cryin' (cryin, cryin')
Oh, didn't I, didn't I, didn't I
See you cryin' (cryin, cryin')
Feelin' all alone without a friend
You know you feel like dyin' (dyin', dyin')
Oh, didn't I, didn't I, didn't I
See you cryin' (cryin', cryin')
Feelin' all alone without a friend
You know you feel like dyin' (dyin', dyin')
Oh, didn't I, didn't I, didn't I
See you cryin' (cryin', cryin')
I want you to want me
I need you to need me
I'd love you to love me
I'm beggin' you to beg me
Geez... When you actually SEE the lyrics.... Not much to the song at all!!!!
WHY IS IT SO AWESOME?! lol
This song will always make me think of my Dad. He’s still around but he used to always play this song on his guitar when I was a kid. Now I can play this song a guitar. Generational appreciation for cheap trick haha
Was dating a guy who DJ'd at a radio station back in '79 when this came out. I immediately bought the Live at Budokan album. My boyfriend hated Cheap Trick and gave my album away as part of a phone-in prize at the station! I was so pissed, I broken up with the jackass. I still wish I had that vinyl.

From 1979 to 2000 was 21 years and it seemed like a lifetime. I grew up has many many great times and did so much. 2000 to now is 24 years and it seems 2000 was 18 months ago and I've done bugger all in that time except grow old.
Still a very cute tune 🩷💕🩷

Some of my best times hanging out with best friend. This song was one we used to hear all the time.

Dope AF sounds to good times, and in memory, just intense enough to make you "Cry! Cry! Cry!" In Japan & the USA, the kids went nuts for CC. But based on this, in BG, not so much. They had to use the music/audience noise from the Budokan bcuz the Japanese heard this and rocked. CAN YOU DIG IT?!?!?
I love this song

Between the Goldilocks country star in a bola tie, a retired private investigator that's 5 cigs in on a 3 min song and a long lost member of Reel Big Fish on guitar, this video is a little bit of everything
This song Rocks!

First heard this song on a BBC One trade test transmission in the late 1970s.

Seems like the 70s had the best music environment wherever you went. A lot of rock bands earned their chops in Jr High gyms and dive bars.
I saw these guys in southern Wisconsin at a dive bar. Without knowing a thing about them, it seemed obvious pretty boy singing was just a face for the band and the genius of the band was with the lead guitar. That was just two songs into their set.
A few years earlier I saw Styx in a Jr High gym with about 50-60 other people. "Lady" had been out for a while. They weren't unknown, in my opinion, but it sure came across that way. They played poorly to boot.
In the 70s, you had many choices for live music every weekend and some turned out big time later on.
Ole Nielsen, god i love that guy,hes a pistol for sure.
❤ okay.... Love this song cheap trick.....
