It is feisty isn’t it?🤔
RIP the two members of The Cars
Ric Ocasek (March 23, 1944 - September 15, 2019), aged 75
Benjamin Orr (September 8, 1947 - October 3, 2000), aged 53
You both will be remembered as legends.

Man
..they were the epitome of 80's before the fucking 80's
Iconic.
Yep, this. So many people think they're an 80s band, but they got their start well before the 1980s.
Benjamin Orr's voice was unique......not modified by other sounds.......his voice was an instrument in and of itself. Beautiful.
I always thought Rik was British
This is really well said. Benjamins voice was unique.
Well said Martha :D
Benjamin Orr- so gorgeous and talented
It's funny, I like Ocasek's singing better, but most of my favorite Cars songs are the ones Orr sings.
That synth tone is everything
A little dirty sawtooth, a little smooth square wave, recipe for happiness.
I was a DJ at my school in the Soviet Union in 1984. At the disco, I included this song three times in a row. The Сars band was one of my favorites on my playlist.
Interesting & cool! I always thought 'Western' music wasn't really available back then,in the USSR or other communist countries.
@@markhealey9409 This is true. It was quite possible to obtain recordings of famous Western groups in the Soviet Union at that time. Although vinyl records fetched huge prices on "the black market", tape recordings of these records were more affordable.
what other songs from the eightees were your favorite ones?
@@rockwhk , There were many groups. They mainly represent the style of synth-pop and new wave. I remember groups like Depeche Mode, Men at Work, Yazoo etc. But for some reason, in addition to the songs of the The Cars, I especially remember the song "Video Killed the Radio Star" by The Buggles.

Wanted a lift ....These Cars are just what I needed .
The Cars were an anomaly. Little bit New Wave, little bit classic rock, and a whole lotta cool. No wonder their songs are still all over the radio.
The Cars rocked, I agree, one of the best bands ever. They jelled. Miss them and Ben.

45 years ago today.... this piece of magic was released...
I had no clue it was that old. I thought it was late 80s or early 90s music when I was growing up at that time lol
I also didn't realize they sang one of my favorite songs ever, Drive. 🙏
i love this song. Its a masterpiece, never ever gets old. Just as good now as it was in 1978.
If we could only freeze time...

I remember the first time i heard this song on the radio in 1978. I had no idea who The Cars were at the time but they sounded like no other band. Hard to believe that was almost 45 years ago...

Well, when a band is a real band they sound as good or better live! The Cars were a real band. I miss them.

Amazing song for the 70's, it sounded so different ot the other music at the time, Cars were really on top of the 80's pop sound before the 80's
No its70s sounds going into the 80s PERIOD 70s sounds started in the late 70dz
70s pop sound indeed
NOPE 70s Pop Going into the 80s
To me it sounds like a song that would come out in the 80s.
Was this a serious comment? Cars were in genre' All their own

Almost 62 years old and still listening The Cars
I'm almost.. cough cough 63, and I still am. I was 17, and a trainee pork butcher when this hit the UK charts.... I wish my body was 17 again🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I blasted this once while driving and a car pulls with young females in their 20's. They were rockin and screamin turn it up!!
That guitar solo is just.....sublime.
Do you hear the bfdi in it?
Agree
I agree, the solo is great. The funny thing is that I first interpreted sublime as subpar and was ready to write a very argumentative response, lol.

Ben Orr Orzechowski rocks in this song! I loved this song in the 80's and I still do.
What was cool about The Cars was that there's never been another band before or since that sounds anything like them. They were truly unique. That's _very_ rare in the music industry, where most ever band/singer sounds like everybody else around them, with the same "sound of the moment." And their music was incredible. Can't even believe this album is now going on 42 years old. The other day on my lunch break I was sitting in my car eating and listening to this very album, marveling at how kick ass it still is, and how much it eclipses present day music. Proud to say this was the music I was raised on. :)
Very true :) I agree, warm regards from Tasmania
I guess they're just what we needed.🎹🥁🎸🎤🎶📻😎
His voice wasn’t like that he could hit high notes and everything, but his sound is just amazing. The way he sings “as long as it was deep, yeah” and “you always knew to wear it well and you look so fancy i can tell”. Seriously, am i the only one who just can’t get over the way he says “and” and “yeah” ??
@@phebedezwart5870 Subtle and very effective.

Ben Orr, such a rare talent and voice. RIP
Beautiful voice.
Yes, Ben was beautiful and fabulously talented, and I cannot understand how anybody could confuse the melodic warmth and range of Benjamin's voice with Ric's - light years difference. From Patricia H. not William H.'

The song that said goodbye to the 70's and welcome to the 80's.
No, the sound of the 70s Going into the 80s. You can look at it both ways
Nah, the Stranglers did it before
The Cars had a unique sound that kinda blew away DISCO which was prominent in the 70s. They ushered in the 80s with that and unlike other bands doing synth at that time The Cars were more popular and radio friendly. Plus it didn’t hurt that Benjamin was a part of that band ❤️❤️
I think I just found my mother in the audience. The dark haired lady in front center at the beginning with the Dorothy Hamill Haircut. 70% to the left side. 0:21
Definitely the Cars signature song, so young at the time

To hear them on the radio, you kind of just passively listen because they are always on, but when you intently pay attention, you realize just how good these guys were.
