  • On the 29 February 2024 staff and volunteers across health and care got together to focus on embedding personalised care as a system wide approach to improving lives.
Getting it right for patients and understanding what matters to them, rather than what is the matter with them, is key to helping people live longer and healthier lives.
Personalised care underpins the NHS Long Term Plan and is an evidenced-based approach to improving lives and reducing system-wide costs.
There was some fantastic work showcased by all sector partners in North Cumbria and the wider region, along with an in-depth look at how lived experience can impact service delivery and improved outcomes. Keynote speakers also inspired participants in the production of personal and team goals helping improve the care, of those they care for. Guest speaker Andy Walker, MBE, told a very moving story of his life, and his session called One Million Dreams and how to achieve them with a personal health budget, was particularly inspiring.
Although feedback is still being evaluated from the event, there was a lot of energy from participants to share ways of working, use data and known tools to build shared decision-making into everyday patient care.
