I've been making these with my aunts and my mother for 45 years...learned how to use a paring knife and devein the leaves...it was my responsibility to do that first, and learn how to tell when the leaves were just right coming out of the water. We used to roll hundreds of these for wedding receptions, baby showers, first communions, Easter, Christmas. I've never seen the cone roll shape...makes perfect sense! Am going to incorporate that into mine! Thanks Natasha! You taught an old dog a new trick!

It looks great! I am Hungarian, and I make almost the same mixture, but I add chopped raw onions to the minced meat instead of carrots or at least additional to carrots...and it never hurts to add some smoked bacon to it either, it gives a special flavour to this dish! I also add some thyme and dill and maybe a bit of tomato sauce. We call it stuffed cabbage=toltott káposzta.

I almost cried watching this, remebering the cabbage rolls my Grandma used to make. I always meant to get her recipe, but never got the chance, this is almost exactly how my Grandma used to make them (she used a tomato purè with fresh tomatoes and spices), definitely going to use this recipe to introduce my family to the great Slavic cuisine (Borscht, Pierogi and Cabbage Rolls). Thank you for the recipe!

I'm Romanian, but our cabbage rolls are called Sarmale. We like to use turkey meat instead of pork, it's much healthier and tastes so much better! You should try it sometime :) We don't put carrots, either! We cook onion, turkey bacon, and season it with salt, pepper, paprika, and add fresh thyme and dill. Thyme makes it tastes so amazing, and gives it that traditional flavor that we love. After that's cooked, we add the rice and ground turkey. We cook the cabbage pretty much the same, or soured cabbage. Then we fold them, and put them in a large pan (because they are too good and we make a bunch so we don't run out fast!) After the pot is nearly full, we put a smoked pork and smoked sausage leg in between for extra flavor. Let it simmer for about 3-4 hours. We then add in tomato sauce and let it simmer when the Sarmale are nearly finished for about half an hour. And that's it! Would love for you to try it the Romanian way :)

My grandmother used to make stuffed cabbage, even though we are Italian, and sometimes I used to help her in the kitchen, but I couldn't remember how to soften the cabbage so I never made it, but after seeing this video I'm definitely going to make this. I also like that you added some marinara to the filling. My grandmother never did that. Thanks Natasha.

This is one of my all time favorite foods. No one makes it the same, and every time I make it I switch it up.
I grew up in a polish area, but forget the markets, just mention it to a friends mom and the next day that friend will bring you a massive tray!
Its like a badge of honor.
I see you make yours in more of a Russian style, no onions or rice, but it still looks awesome!

On the contrary they cook with onion, carrot ,rice ect. sometimes a bit of cheese in the filling in Ukraine/ Russia...Now it's popular to add some buckwheat or cous cous instead of rice into the mince due to more healthier version it is still very tasty!😋
Natasha doesn't use traditional Ukrainian recipes for some reason..Probably adopt them ..

Yum голубцы they are so good I actually made them recently and I also use a tomato sauce similar to yours and a tip for a faster cooking time is too to have them in the pot and and add enough water so they are fully submerged and put them on the stove and boil them and they only take 40 minutes and after they have cooked for about 25 to 30 minutes add the sauce the acidity in the tomatoes stops the cabbage from even further so only add the sauce when the cabbage is cooked to the perfect texture
