- Police respond to concerns about a homeless woman acting violently towards people on the Venice Beach Boardwalk. Witnesses inform the officers that she attempted to bite one person.

I've lived years close to Venice. The insanity is a major hazard. A vacation in Europe is a much better option I'm guessing even with all the professional scam artists.
Patton State Hospital and many others have room to take her in. Housed, cared for by MDs, meds given daily, exercise, recreation, education, possible rehab. and most of all not a danger to US, and she will feel better.

The AMA should get in touch with legislature and pass something into law, to house these peoples into a State Hospital There needs to be a COMPREHENSIVE plan. Revolving door, notice to appear/disappear is NOT a solution.
They did that back in the 1960s....but the National News (CBS, NBC, ABC) attacked the mental hospitals....and they were all released.
The USA doesn’t allow people to be held against their will indefinitely. I’m not being smart, it’s the problem with that solution.

Your “solution” ignores the fact that that is only about a 72 hour hold where she gets medicated and stable and they have to release her. You can’t hold people against their will in this country. I’m not advocating for all our tourist towns to be like this but it’s the problem with our brand of freedom. We can’t just keep who we want in a mental hospital because we don’t like how they use their freedom if they aren’t breaking a law. And we can’t keep people indefinitely for committing the misdemeanor of dis con.

I don't get how somebody sitting on the grass ranting is a danger to herself or others. Seems to me she only got violent when the police showed up.

So what was the charge? I mean I did not see really anything illegal she was doing. Acting odd is not a crime or all of Venice would be locked up.
She's not being charged per sey, shes being taken in for evaluation under the possibility of being cray cray. It's a well meaning law often abused that gives cops permission to take you into custody for your own good.
