  • Los Angeles, CA - July 9, 2024: On Tuesday, Los Angeles Police Officers issued a citation for illegal camping near the Venice Beach Boardwalk on Ozone Avenue, in accordance with Los Angeles Municipal Code (LAMC) Section 41.18. This section of the code prohibits sitting, lying, or sleeping in public areas, including locations like the Venice Beach Boardwalk. The citation was part of the city’s ongoing efforts to manage homeless encampments and was issued during a significant cleanup operation conducted by a multi-agency task force.
This cleanup targeted a homeless encampment and involved team members from the Los Angeles Police Department, the City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works, Clean Harbors Environmental Inc., and the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA). The operation is part of a broader city initiative aimed at addressing homelessness while maintaining public health and safety, ensuring compliance with city ordinances designed to keep public spaces accessible and safe for all.
These efforts are conducted regularly, with the goal of balancing enforcement with support services to effectively address the complex issue of homelessness in the Venice Beach area.

The Supreme Court reaffirmed that cities have the right to remove campers from public spaces. Now we will see how serious public officials are about ending this mess.
They don't have the "there is nothing we can do" excuse to use anymore.
If they fail to act we will know who to directly blame.

Why wasn't the camper removed in Part 2 of this video? Are they giving notices first? Same with Part 1, that tent remained. In a previous video, the man was given three weeks. Came back, still there. Given one extra day. I wonder if that's what happened here.

In response to a comment the treatment of homeless people starts with themselves. If they are drug addicts they must seek treatment. If they are mentally ill they must be put into facilities. People cannot be allowed to sleep on the streets or beaches or alleys or walkways. Nothing in life is perfect but for those of us who work hard and pay way too much in taxes we too deserve to be treated to safe and clean streets. There are shelters and they may have some problems but advocates for the homeless should put their time & efforts into improving the shelters. The government of California cannot account for millions of dollars for homeless expenditures. This is a serious serious problem that must be dealt with. Working class middle income non celebrity people deserve safe clean streets and beaches.

Why do people do what they do? Because they can. Instead of keep throwing billions of dollars at homelessness it's proven not to work what should happen is is they should be incarcerated put through a drug rehab program and job training program to actually try and turn their lives around. 90 + percent of homeless are homeless because of drugs and or alcohol. If we're going to spend money on homeless then, let's spend it more wisely and actually help them

Today Governor Gavin Newsome of California ordered the state and local municipalities to remove homeless camps from public places throughout California. This is based on the recent US Supreme Court ruling homeless cannot camp on public places. It's been decades in waiting - time to clean up our communities and the state. Enough is enough. The $85m is now going to jump start this effort. Hopefully some of it can be used for the homeless who want the help to get back on their feet and take advantage of the services being offered to make that move.

Wow! Look at the tax payers’ money being wasted! So many police and city workers standing around, nothing, absolutely nothing has been done. I bet this type of wasteful action or inaction happens most of the times. If it is left with private enterprise, can be done with fraction of City’s budget.
