The Ineos Grenadier is way better than you think

  • Thank you for watching! Special thanks to Mercedes Benz of Danbury, Morgan Gerow, and Curry Automotive for helping to set this up! We are exceptionally appreciative for this opportunity!
    The Ineos Grenadier, here in the US, is an enigma. From our research, this is one of the first reviews of the Grenadier in the states. The one we drove today arrived just 3 weeks prior to our test drive. Technically a preproduction model, but near as makes no difference to being complete.
    We both got the opportunity to drive in it today. Michael from Ineos who was featured in our drives, was super helpful, and let us do pretty much whatever we wanted with it. As we both found, while the steering is not something we're used to, the overall experience is pure cool. The ride and handling are great for it's size, and the whole vibe screams "rugged".
    The presence of the Grenadier cannot be understated. No one has seen this thing, many of them thought it was a modded defender, others thought a G-Wagen. Once we told them it wasn't any of those things, the curiosity kicked in and people started swarming it. We suspect that before these become common at soccer practice, these will draw at least a small crowd were ever you go.
    Leave any feedback or cars you’d like to see in the comments below. If you prefer these more straightforward reviews, let us know! We've got a lot of exciting cars lined up for future videos, so consider subscribing!

    Not a snorkel by the way. It’s a raised air intake designed to take the engine air intake position up and facing backward out of the dust path. The wading depth is not increased by its having this installed. An actual snorkel is a part of a waterproofing system that is far more involved than a raise air intake. If this guy is a dealer, that is a very important distinction to know the difference for sure.

      You are correct. The Brits call it a snorkel.

    It’s not a snorkel. It does not increase the wading depth. It is a raised air intake to take in cleaner air when driving off-road in dusty environments.

      Thanks for the feedback! While the Grenadier’s configurator doesn’t call it a “snorkel”, and they do site reducing dust intake as a benefit of the option, in our research those types of intakes also afford the car better water-wading depths. The Grenadier actually offers a different option that’s even better at preventing dust from getting into the engine.
      We definitely concede that we’re not experts in off-roading tech, and we actually didn’t consider dust in thinking about that feature. We hope to do more off-readers in the future, and learn more along the way. Thanks again, and keep the corrections coming!

    I 'll wait and see if they address its issues. I really don't like the backwards rear door. The inside panels that look like they are pop out but in fact you have to remove the whole panel to put in additional acc switches. And the infotainment is way to busy . I don't want to enter the screens for basic ac/ heater functions. and I can't stand having to pull over to safely scroll thru screens to get to main functions.The rear door where you can't do anything without opening both doors since they went backwards with the design. It should be open main side and if you need more opening open the small door . Other manufacturers have figured this out decades ago.

      So many people get the rear door thing wrong. If you reverse up against a wall you can still open the small door all the way and the large door partial until the spare hits the wall. it gives heaps of room in a limited space. People are always looking at opening the doors fully open. In many places, like here in Australia, it is normal to reverse into a parking space. Compulsory in many places.

    I have one of these vehicles - haven't seen it in 5 weeks as the dealer and Ineos Technical are still unable to diagnose the faults with the cabin heater/ air-con.
    Ineos tell me that fixing the car is their priority - how stupid would I have to be to believe this? They have been paid in full - why should they care?

    Can you take out the back seats? What is the dimensions of the cargo area.

    • @manual-motion
      @manual-motion  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Not sure! We didn’t try it on the day but we do know they don’t fold all the way flat with the load floor. They fold against seat bottom but it’ll be a ledge instead of flush. The cargo space is approximately 73 cubic feet, but it’s boxy so it probably fits more than you’d think.

      Yes you can remove the rear seat bit batteries are under the seat. The rear cushions fold forwards and the back folds down. It's a 9 inch drop from the bottom to top of the folded seats.

    Ineos Auto is certainly a small company in Britain, but it was started by a guy who's worth $40 Billion (because, as you say, he was pissed off about the new "Defender").
    So I suppose it's not going away any time soon, despite its serious design flaws (which I imagine will be corrected very soon).
    And even with those design flaws, it's a great car!

      Huh, we thought the sales rep said there would be. Did they recently announce there wouldn’t be one?

    • @mikefoster7085
      @mikefoster7085 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not sure where that came from (your rep info) but there has been no mention of one from my dealer (in AU) and the head of APAC for Ineos. There is nothing in any of the IA literature that mentions it. You can't modify the existing vehicle without major changes to safety and seat design, remember this is a global platform so any changes (or models) will be worldwide. @@manual-motion

      Oh interesting, perhaps it’s something in the early stages of development and they haven’t publicly announced it yet. Not sure. Either way, I think we can all agree a 7 seater version would be awesome!

    • @peopleschamp7258
      @peopleschamp7258 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @mikefoster7085 the talks of a 7 seater is based off the quartermaster which would allow them to make a LWB.

    • @mikefoster7085
      @mikefoster7085 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @peopleschamp7258 interesting, considering the QM is just a chassis extension. I think it's wishful thinking on behalf of the US market. Remember that the Grenadier is a commercial vehicle. They are a low volume manufacturer so they have restrictions for production.

    The seats don't fold flat.
    These pubescent acting reviewers would have no idea why that does/ doesn't matter.

  • @itsruf1

    These never-kissed-a-girl-yet poser reviewers probably couldn't tell if the rear seats come out. Would probably ask who would do that or care why.
