Not really. He's crazy before the face transfer but after that he just plays a pretty standard hero character, and that happens by the end of act 1. Travolta really brings it.

John Travolta and Nicolas Cage will return as Sean Archer and Castor Troy with their original faces in the sequel! Castor Troy will resurrected, Adam Wingard will direct the movie this time and we could see this time Jamie and Adam grown up
John Woo's was the original slow motion master, his style was some of the earlier in movie history, before everyone started over doing it. Absolutley love this movie. You should definitely watch Hard Target.

I do the "hand thing" on every first date i go on. The ladies love it. One of these days i might even go on a second date. More trivia: The movie was supposed to be set in "the near future", where the face technology would fit better, but for various reasons it was decided that it should be set in the present. Obviously they had to keep the surgery part. The boots the prisoners wore are reused props from the Super Mario Bros movie from 1993, because "they were cool".
I had a feeling that giving the daughter a knife would become important. Just didn’t realize how badly it would backfire on the real Castor Troy! How ironic was that?!
I absolutely LOVED that you got to discover what the title meant real-time. Your expression at that moment is priceless! : D John Woo soecializes is absurd and incredible action with really unique corny sentimentality and romanticism that's so fun to watch. Face Off is the most successful vehicle for that for his American films but a few others are well worth watching. And his Hong Kong films are mind blowing.
Face Off is basically a "greatest hits" John Woo film... and its a blast. "Hard Boiled" and "The Killer" are absolute must watch from him. You'll probably enjoy "Broken Arrow" too, lots of silly fun with Travolta again and Christian Slater, here you will discover Woo's dislike of Helicopters 😆 Good reaction.

Jean-Claude Van Damme gets a lot of crap and probably deservedly, but John woo did direct, in my opinion one of the best Jean-Claude Van Damme movies in Hard Target (1993) ... If you care. John Woo has his style that I think appeals more to some than others ... The slow motion spins of heros dual wielding pistols as doves fly across the scene isn't for everyone, but I could watch his movies all day long.

This is one movie I return to sooooo much, I've easily seen it 20+ times because it's a classic popcorn action movie with enough "character" to be more than that. Honestly a classic

Face/Off is a great movie by John Woo. It's unfair to say this, but you can almost reduce John Woo movies down to 'Slow motion' and 'Doves'. Other movies of him that I liked are MI:2, Broken Arrow and Hard Target. There are other great movies that I have not seen. Many people complained about Mission Impossible 2. I believe these are people that mostly had not seen any of his previous movies including Face/Off Face/Off is a masterclass in acting and mimicry. John Travolta mimicking Nic Cage is brilliant and Nic Cage's over-acting was neccessary to establish Castor Troy's style so quickly. This is really good movie and I am glad you enjoyed it.
Saw someone online elsewhere that reminded me a lot of you. Took a screenshot, but we can't share those here. It was just weird. I saw this woman for the first few seconds and was like, "I know her from somewhere, but where? Oh, that's the reaction lady, Verowak!" But then realized it couldn't be.
There's a great podcast called "How did this get made" and they cover this movie on an episode. It's a solid hour of hilarity. They invent the phrase "hand waterfall".😅

Cage went from shooting Con Air straight into this which explains his unhinged performance. Hard Target and Broken Arrow are also John Woo and both mindlessly entertaining.
If anyone's interested in watching Cage's newest films one I highly recommend is Renfrew. Cage playing an even more out of control Dracula is well... Something that's been keeping me a fan of the guy all these years.

Face/Off isn't a remake, but it borrows a lot of its elements from Woo's earlier (and better) movie The Killer (1989), filmed while he was still in Hong Kong. You should check it out.
Not gonna lie, if you like this, you should check out Broken Arrow, with Christian Slater and John Travolta… Even with out Nic Cage, Travolta goes FULL NIC CAGE in that film! It’s awesome, hilarious and pretty thrilling, actually.

This is one of the greatest movies ever, but not how they intended it to be. This is one of the better comedies to exist. Even the prospect of people not noticing taller & fat Travolta swapped faces with shorter more athletic Nick Cage. There’s one line I love, an FBI agent who’s got more power says “get the LAPD on this!” That line made me write a short story of a Secret Service agent saving the life of The President, & being promoted to the greatest crime prevention agencies ever… The LAPD! They’ve got jet packs, scrambler jets, super model secretaries, & even Dark Knight styled tank vehicles.
I loved this movie as well. I was a huge John Woo fan and this movie was a treat. If you are interested in watching Hong Kong movies with subtitles I recommend The Killer and Hard Boiled

Sometimes it's hard to tell why Nic Cage is so well regarded as an actor since he can be a little zany in his roles, but Leaving Las Vegas will make it clear. Also, if you want another John Woo film you should check out Broken Arrow which also stars John Travolta. It's a rather standard action film plot, so nothing quite as high concept as Face/Off, but you'll get to see some more of Woo's skill as an action director and it's a pretty solid film.
when you think about it it's so not credible..... cage and Travolta don't have the same height, the same build or the same weight....😂. but we believe it all the same!! The magic of cinema
A bit late to the party. You said something about Nicolas Cage in a serious role. I heard good things about the movie "Pig" from 2021. It's a drama about a reclusive truffle-hunter whose foraging pig gets stolen. It's the director's first feature film and maybe counts as an indie movie, I'm not sure. But the critics especially loved Cage's performance.
A Stallone vs Schwarzeneggar Face Off would have been much weaker IMO. Stallone is a good, sometimes great, actor, but Arnold, not so much. He's come a long way, but during this period, I don't think he could have carried either role sufficiently. Denzel vs Snipes and Pacino vs DeNiro would have been amazing though.

@@VerowakReacts Definitely check out Leaving Las Vegas. Sometimes it's hard to tell why Nic Cage is so well regarded as an actor since he can be a little zany in his roles, but Leaving Las Vegas will make it clear.
Also, if you want another John Woo film you should check out Broken Arrow which also stars John Travolta. It's a rather standard action film plot, so nothing quite as high concept as Face/Off, but you'll get to see some more of Woo's skill as an action director and it's a pretty solid film.

Isn't it great when they catch the bad guy in the first 10-15 minutes? It sure can spare us from having to watch movies for over an hour.

A bit late to the party. You said something about Nicolas Cage in a serious role. I heard good things about the movie "Pig" from 2021. It's a drama about a reclusive truffle-hunter whose foraging pig gets stolen. It's the director's first feature film and maybe counts as an indie movie, I'm not sure. But the critics especially loved Cage's performance.
I love how Nicolas Cage is acting again, I think he took a break for a while, but now he seems to be loved and getting a lot of roles!
Got to watch Nic in "The Rock" with Sean Connery.
Ok so John Travolta movies to watch, certainly Pulp Fiction, Saturday Night Fever, and Broken Arrow. Nicolas Cage movies,Con Air, and Raising Arizona.

Do not forget The Punisher, Gone in 60 seconds, and National Treasure
A Stallone vs Schwarzeneggar Face Off would have been much weaker IMO. Stallone is a good, sometimes great, actor, but Arnold, not so much. He's come a long way, but during this period, I don't think he could have carried either role sufficiently. Denzel vs Snipes and Pacino vs DeNiro would have been amazing though.
