The Philippines was under Spain for more than 300 years which is why there are some Spanish words in our language. "Noche Buena" is for the feast on Christmas Eve while "Media Noche" is the feast on New Year's eve. 'Hope you guys enjoyed your food. 😊
Canada has alot of filipino community and they usually have christmas party hope you get invited in some of it for you to experience maybe authentic style noche buena
There's a huge Filipino community in Canada.Im sure they celebrate the Christmas party.Hope you invite anyone of those,so you can experience the filipino spirit of Christmas.
My favorite Christmas Traditions here in the Philippines are Family and Friends Reunions, Monita, and Monito (Exchange Gifts), and Christmas traditional Foods like different kinds of Lechon (Pork belly roll, whole roasted pork, and Lechon kawali) Pancit, Macaroni salad, Fruit salad, Crema de Fruta, Mango Graham and Relyenong Manok (Stuffed chicken). yum!🤤🤤🤤🤤💖💖💖💖 Maligayang Pasko at Manigong Bagong Taon to you too.
*Noche Buena is a Spanish word and that tradition well came from them... we adopt Noche Buena to be part of our culture and mix it with Asian culture... but if you are here in the Philippines generally to well-off families... put Pork Lechon, Grilled Seafood, and of course Chinese Ham like Majestic Ham or Excellente Ham on the table... But if you are a middle-income family, Chicken Lechon is good enough for a feast with an average size of Pork Ham... this food was mentioned are for Dinner before Christmas eve... actually the food that we eat on Christmas eve is just a simple Hot creamy chocolate and we call it Tsokolate eh and we pair it with Ham sandwich, Biscuits, Churros, and Kakanin or rice cake...*
Honestly there is no specific food for noche buena. We will just cook food and eat whatever is in the table on christmas eve. What makes it more special are the people inside the house. Family and relatives coming together on special night. Sometimes each realative has one dish they have to bring. But thank you for noticing the Philippines tradition during Christmas season starting from september. 😂 keep it up guys. God bless❤❤❤
A lot more is missing :) fruit salad, macaroni salad, baked macaroni, the famous lechon, nilagang baka, some kakanin or rice cake, casava or ube halaya. Quezo de bola, ham cooked in pineapple.
Spot on. Those are some of our Noche Buena Starter Pack. Most will also serve lechon, kaldereta, menudo, morcon, embutido, lasagna, carbonarra, pansit, chicken cordon bleu, chicken afritada, buko salad, kaldereta etc... It really depends on what the family wants But yeah, most typucal is spaghettI. Them there are tons of party games, prizes, exchange gifts etc...
The food items you prepared here are typical for any Filipino party celebrated any time of the year, if not for a typical weekday meal per item. Many will cook and prepare other uncommon and special items specifically for Christmas eve and Christmas day. For my family, we do chicken macaroni salad, sweet ham, any special bread, maybe cheese pimiento (keso de bola with grilled red bell pepper and mayo), local hot choco drink, and fruit salad, for Christmas Eve. Christmas day will have big items that are intended to shared with relatives and friends (could be any combo of): pork or beef lechon, grilled chicken, stuffed chicken, bbqs, rice, ox tongue in creamy mushroom sauce, beef kaldereta, grilled or baked seafood items, kare-kare, potato gratin, baked macaroni, various veggie salads, fruit cake, etc.
We always had Beef Kaldereta. Selecta Ice Cream/Goldilocks or Red Ribbon Cake, Buko Salad and Yes chicken Macaroni salad is a staple to almost every house, Macaroni Salad and Buko Salad is always there plus Puto with cheese. And Fiesta Ham, Queso De Bola plus Fruits. Pansit Malabon, & Lechon Manok is also a staple. Grilled Tilapia or Grilled Bangus as well or Turbo Broiled Chicken/Pork or Beef Ribs. Christmas is a a very big deal here, bigger than birthdays, since it's once a year, the food is more, more expensive dishes, etc.
Ours, by tradition, are macaroni chicken salad and fruit salad (yes, you heard that right, we got two salads), lumpiang shanghai, any pork-related viand (mostly lechon-related ones), tons of rice and spaghetti, and fried chicken.
All the food on the table can be served on any occasion or celebration, so they are not really the traditional Filipino food that's prepared for noche buena. It is usually the queso de bola and the ham (the ones you couldn't get), some barbeque, round shaped fruits "for good luck", but more especially are the snacks or desserts; puto bumbong, bibingka (a lot better cooked the traditional way and NOT in an oven), sapin-sapin, and other cake pastries for the whole season.
Philippines was under Spanish colony for around 300 years, hence we have some Spanish tradition and words mixed in. So yeah, Noche Buena is kinda from our Spanish colonial background. I am envious, here now in the US, and you guys have all my usual family Noche Buena meals, except for the missing Fiesta Ham (sweet ham with a bit of pineapple flavor), also the missing Buko Salad, made from canned mixed fruits cocktail, milk, coconut, and all-purpose cream. But that is very close. You guys should try kare-kare, can be beef or pork, if you can have the pata version, that will be amazing. I like pork or pork pata version usually. Also Menudo (with liver and hotdogs), Bagnet, and Ginataang Langka with Shrimp (jackfruit cooked with coconut milk and shrimp ). You guys rock!
tomato sauce and kechup are two different things.. filipino spag still use tomato sauce ir premade spag sauce (which is sweeter).. but it's not necessarily kechup.. only the less fortunate use kechup because it is cheaper but that doesn't mean the filipino spag in general uses kechup.. lols
Filipino farmers till and plow the fields or harvest the crops from early dawn before sunrise to around 9 or 10 in the morning, then resume a few hours later after the sun is not so high and hot. This is why the Spanish-led Catholic church instituted dawn masses for the Advent period from Dec 16th to 24th daily, to allow the farmers and field workers to attend mass before going to work. That tradition called "Simbang Gabi" ("Mass at Night") is carried on today. Then the families eat breakfast together before the workers go out to work.
Fiesta Ham, Lengua Estopada, Relyeno are a must for a filipino/spanish ancestry it is also different if a filipino family has a chinese ancestry.. Most Filipino prefer Pancit instead of Spaghetti.
Nice buffet!! My mom makes a Portuguese version of the caramel flan dessert. It’s so good and we have it at Christmas 🎄 Thanks for making me super hungry 🤤
We serve crispy palabok, beef morcon , bbq , lechon belly , ham , ube halaya, leche plan and buko salad and some add ons and less ric eduring the season
Filipino foods always a feast during birthday celebration. Baptismal, wedding and even engagement in a month basis is a big deal... But christmas and new year is a big bang for us...😀😀😀 But our family always prepared beef caldereta, paella seafoods, lechon, plain rice, chopsuy, steamed vegies, grilled pork barbeque or chicken inasal. We have different kind of salad, leche flan, kakanin, fruitty ice cream. Delicioso! And many more.
i am convinced that you are having Filipino noche buena right now. those items are the typical serving food in Christmas parties and family dinners. so nostalgic for me. i hope you get to try the edam cheese ball, buko pandan, buko salad, fruit salad, chicken macaroni salad, mango float, Christmas pineapple ham, and hotdog & marshmallow on stick.
I'm surprised that there are countries and cultures who don't do such thing like Christmas evening celebration/dinner like Noche Buena.. it kinda feel lonely and sad if they don't have that
We've learned a lot about different cultures through their food, it's been a fun experience! Our families do dinner on Christmas day, Christmas eve is more low key. All the Noche Buena videos we watched looked like a fun time!
new year's eve is our most festive holidays celebration here in the Philippines, more festive than the Christmas eve, because Christmas is for all the children but New year is for all
"Noche buena" Spanish words means Christmas eve. Some of our words are in Spanish as we were colonised by Spain for so many years. Also , its "sinangang" or fried rice. "SINIGANG" is a sour soup based dish
Nowadays, the food you usully serve during the holidays in the Philippines is mom's specialty which would normally take hours and hours to prepare. But traditionally, there should be a Xmas ham, the queso de bola (edam cheese usually from Netherlands) and for desert, fruit salad.
Great video! Wish you could’ve had the pineapple ham with queso de bola in pan de sal (build your own sandwiches). Loved that he combined the ice cream and leche flan! Like cake/pie + ice cream. Like one of your subscribers said, short vowels as in hat for “pata” and “halo-halo” not like an angel’s halo. 😇 Thank you for positive, uplifting content!🎄
one dish that is always on our family’s noche buena is pancit molo (pork dumpling soup) cooked by our grandmother. after the feast there will be games then opening of presents.
In our family, during Noché Buena and even in Media Noché, we make sure that we have a theme so that the food that is being serve matches with the theme. Say, we wanted to have a Seafood Theme where most of the dishes might be associated with the theme such as Shrimp Aglio Olio, then Grilled Butter Mussels and Relyenong Bangus. Then the common dishes such as Wheat Breath Sliced, Christmas Ham, and Keso De Bola.
Thank you for the post! My family and I usually prepare Beef kaldereta and chicken inasal and Molo Soup for Noche Buena. We prepare Valenciana and beef nilaga or beef kare kare for Media Noche. Yum!
You guys are amazing doing lots of research! 👍I hope that in a (good) way, this experience gave you a sneak peek of how Christmas Eve is celebrated in the Philippines! 😊 it's like the climax of all preparations starting on the first '-ber' month, September 🤭 Pineapple ham (or any sweet ham) is indeed one of the main menu, but it can also we replaced by other celebratory pork dishes like lechon 😉 so I think having lechon kawali (lit. Frypan lechon - since traditional lechon is usually firepit roasted) is close enough 😊👍Happy Christmas to everyone! 💕
We loved having a sneak peak at how Christmas is celebrated in the Philippines! Our celebration was small, but ti was still a lot of fun for us and our tastebuds!
wow, by the way its just the tip of the iceberg, coz our banquette has a huge variety, well depending on budget and household, but overall its a huge banquette for us besides fiesta and media noche
original noche buena feast that some filipino are afford is Lechon, Ham PATA, Queso De Bola, Menudo, Afritada, Caldereta, Fried Chicken, Fried Hotdog with marshmallow on top, pinoy Pork Barbeque, Crispy Pata, Relyenong Bangus - Milk fish, spaghetti, lumpia etc for desert Biko, Leche flan, Ube Macapuno Fruit salad, Mango float Graham, Valenciana
We used egg yolk only for the Leche plan and condensed milk so don't add sugar that's why is so creamy.... one good thing after Noche Buena is karaoke 🎤 you can hear it on your whole neighborhood... but in the States.. your neighbors will call the police !!!
There are no specific types of dish are to be on noche buena its just that the families are be always together to have the fiest and the bonding of families friends and love ones We always come together to bond in christmas eve
you missed the Queso de Bola (Edam Cheese), Jamón de Bola (Ham) and Ensalada de Fruta (Fruit salad/Ambrosia salad) also Lechón and Lechón Manok (roasted chicken) those are the traditional Noche Buena foods in the Philippines, the fried rice is called Sinangag because sinigang is not considered a Noche Buena food..
next time you need to try Chicken afritada and biko a native rice dessert . We also add those two in the Noche Buena menu :). MERRY CHRISTMAS to you! Thanks for doing this episode.
New subbie here.. please try different dessert from the Philippines. They might all be sweet but I'm sure you'll love it. Mainly the fruit salad, leche flan, bibingka, puto( it is rice cake not the bad word) , macaroni salad( 2 types : can be with fruit or with chicken), mango graham float and a lot more. 😅 You can try different liqour too. Some of the family celebration in the Philippines love to drink liquor after noche buena. Some of the food that served in the table can be the "pulutan" side dish while drinking.
Thank you for the suggestions! We tried leche flan and halo halo, loved them both! Feel free to check out our Filipino Food playlist if you're curious! Cheers :)
Btw, TMI: there's this really good brand of queso de bola (lit. ball of cheese) and you'd be surprised it's made in Holland! Brand is called Marca Pato 😉👍
Thats Filipino christmas spirit.. maybe next time, you can try the fruit salad and the ham. And also the grilled hotdog skewers with marshmallow and the homemade palabok... Merry christmas guys.. or Maligayang pasko in tagalog.🇵🇭♥️♥️♥️🥰
Filipinos tweak/fuse different ingredients their dishes/dips to create new tastes. That's the genius behind Filipino cuisine. So, you're not breaking any norm.
That looked so good. I love getting loads of food and sharing. I don't really have any traditions here, normally on Christmas day Mum, Dad, me and my brother get together and open the pressies, then have a massive meal while watching the Queens speech (It will be the King this year), then flop in a comfy chair and recover before making some turkey sandwiches and eating chocolate
Lechon is not the same as lechon kawali. The traditional lechon (which is typically served during special occasions like Noche Buena) is roast suckling pig. Lechon kawali is fried pork belly. "Kawali" means frying pan or wok. Jamon would be more traditionally served during Noche Buena than lechon kawali.
The Philippines was under Spain for more than 300 years which is why there are some Spanish words in our language. "Noche Buena" is for the feast on Christmas Eve while "Media Noche" is the feast on New Year's eve. 'Hope you guys enjoyed your food. 😊

Most of us Filipinos live to eat, not eat to live! Hahaha. Thanks for trying to have a noche buena and bringing some holiday cheer. Mabuhay!
That's a fun way to live! Sorta like working to live, and not living to work! Cheers :)
Another awesome review sledgehammered that like button sharing out full watch stay safe and blessed

Macapuno is a type of coconut that is usually jammed and are softer than regular coconut meat especially when cooked
Si-na-ngag is the garlic fried rice, si-ni-gang is a pork or fish or chicken sour(tamarind) stew
new year's eve is our most festive holidays celebration here in the Philippines, more festive than the Christmas eve, because Christmas is for all the children but New year is for all
In traditional feast in the Philippines we usually have must of the noodles and sticky rice for prosperous and abundance with circle fruit as well.
We are very excited for you to try pork lechon, different from lechon kawali. We bet you would also love it, especially the crispy skin.
"Noche buena" Spanish words means Christmas eve. Some of our words are in Spanish as we were colonised by Spain for so many years. Also , its "sinangang" or fried rice. "SINIGANG" is a sour soup based dish
Isn’t it literally: good night?
Merry Christmas to you too, The Trip Family! Noche buena is the celebration we have after attending the Midnight mass or Misa Aguinaldo.
Thanks so much for watching David!
Hmmmm im so jealous that every bite it cracks! 😂 Enjoy the meal ❤
You should also try the hamon and quezo de bola and biko thats the tipical feast during xmas
Nowadays, the food you usully serve during the holidays in the Philippines is mom's specialty which would normally take hours and hours to prepare. But traditionally, there should be a Xmas ham, the queso de bola (edam cheese usually from Netherlands) and for desert, fruit salad.

Always use short vowel for Philippine words.
Thank you for the tip! Our pronunciation has improved since our first Filipino video, but we still have work to do, haha. Cheers!
Btw, TMI: there's this really good brand of queso de bola (lit. ball of cheese) and you'd be surprised it's made in Holland! Brand is called Marca Pato 😉👍
Sounds great! We'll have to check it out.
Noche buena must have honey glazed ham, keso de bola and ube jam☺️

Try substituting spaghetti with pancit.

Try Mang Inasal of the Jollibee franchise
Pls. Make a part 2 for the food you are missing
Lot of comments for quezo de bola and some other foods to try. Part 2 definitely seems warranted! Thanks for watching :)

I'm sorry that I haven't kept up with your vids; how long have you been using wireless mics? Rode wireless go II? Oh, the feast looked great!
We just got the mics a few weeks ago and are still getting use to them. Haha! Hope you have been well! 😊
You must try lechon
Why not come hear in the Philippines 😋 to experience authentic food 😊
Hopefully one day we can! Thanks so much for watching! 😊

We'll have to see if we can find a Max's around us, thanks for the tip!
By the way, new year's eve is "Media Noche" to us, another Spanish word
Please try Alcohol and beers from the Philippines.
Try lumpia with spaghetti xD
Go to the Philippines already
The crispy pata sauce is superior to any vinegar sauce there is lol
Filipinos tweak/fuse different ingredients their dishes/dips to create new tastes. That's the genius behind Filipino cuisine. So, you're not breaking any norm.
Maligayang Pasko at Manigong Bagong Taon to you guys !!!
Thank you! We hope you have a wonderful holiday season as well!
IK, I'm late to the party, but you forgot the ham and the ball of edam cheese. It's just not Noche Buena without ham and edam cheese!
you are missing honey glazed ham or any ham, its a Filipino tradition to have ham served on Christmas dinner :-)
Sounds like a wonderful way to celebrate the holidays! ❤️
the woman ate the spaghetti with spoon😮
delicious
Lechon is not the same as lechon kawali. The traditional lechon (which is typically served during special occasions like Noche Buena) is roast suckling pig. Lechon kawali is fried pork belly. "Kawali" means frying pan or wok. Jamon would be more traditionally served during Noche Buena than lechon kawali.
i believe you have not tried filipino carbonara yet
