I was born in Weymouth in1967 and lived there until 1978, when we relocated up the road to Dorchester. These pictures really brought back memories- Copper Kitchen! And the Classic cinema, where mum took me to see Bedknobs and Broomsticks when it came out. There was still a pier, and the beach was sandy all the way from the Pavillion Theatre to just before Greenhill.

Nice video, thanks for sharing - I love seeing how places used to look compared to now. I spent many weekends in Weymouth as a child, and have many fond memories :)

As a rather infrequent visitor to Weymouth it was very interesting for me
to see the contrast between the old and the new...
I really hope to return in 2021...

Thanks for compiling this collection - I can remember most of the past places but some are before my time. Must watch again and see if I recognise more. I used to work in Georges the bakers (nearest picture is the White Hart) as my first job whilst still at school.

Thank you. As a child I spent many years on holiday in Weymouth. In my old age . When visting the town I often remembered
my Dad parking in the road By a big timber yard. when we used to have super at night in the town. I think it is now found thank to you photos. But dont remember the company. Nice photo shoot. Thanks for your time.

Paul Jarvis that timber yard is in the video, it's now long long gone and is now a car park. there was another timber dealer down the road where Debenhams now stands, that was called Kennedy's. glad the memories bought back happy times for you :)

I'm not from Weymouth but me and my family holiday their every year. It's such a beautiful place. I really enjoyed you're video. It's crazy to see how much it's changed. Still a beautiful place.

It's changing daily and most of it is the closure of shops, but that's a national problem and when one closes, another opens.
      Welcome to Weymouth btw (y)

@@stiggypoohs it's the same where I am. It's a shame. Love a look around the shops. But love the beach even more. Can't wait to get back there.

I do it because the past is being wiped out by the new and it`s a shame we cant keep some of it the way we remember it, so the best way is to photograph it, treasure it and use it for memory lane.

The single white brick at 1:46 high on the wall got there thanks to a member of Fleetline. He was up a ladder painting the Fleetline frontage when he was sellotaped/clingfilmed to the ladder. Then carried across the road by a couple of drivers (my Dad included) and left against the wall. So he carried on painting one single brick. 😂

I love Weymouth , But i was shocked to see just how tatty and rundown the town centre really got in the last 10 years..
The Harbour area and the seafronts still looks nice though
Plus my girlfriend felt uneasy walking around in the evening, full of alcoholics and chavs everywhere

    • @stiggypoohs
      @stiggypoohs  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Chris smith I agree, Weymouth at nights isn't a nice place and yes it is tatty, such a shame though because inside it's heart it is beautiful

she maybe an old town dating back to 13th Century but with the gloss over of new shops we will never forget the old beauty hidden beneath her. Welcome to Weymouth, Dorset.
