    Tbh I can see why everyone liked it the way before but this would've happened to every seaside town because it's just the evolution of time.im a kid and when I grow up this would've happened again to all the shops now

    Brilliant. My great grandad worked in the ticket office. His second wife was the oldest employee and worked in the ladies toilets into her 80’s, so n the ‘60s. My family were from Upwey and Weymouth and we spent many family holidays there.

    Weymouth used to look a lot better... I cant believe they knocked down those houses to build the Colwell centre, nor the houses where they built the council offices.

      paulockleford it was an era when the past wasn't thought about, the older buildings that were there was much much more eyecatching.

      Definitely, watching your videos made me feel a bit sad! My grandparents would have been alive and living in Weymouth at the time that many of them were taken.

      @@stiggypoohs Its still a great seaside town and my wife and I go there on holiday every year. Five weeks and we'll be there again for two weeks. I have to say though that the Weymouth town planners have an awful lot to answer for!

    • @stiggypoohs
      @stiggypoohs  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@beefabob tell me about it, the old lot were crap and only thought what they wanted, now we have a totally new council, I know most if not all the councillors on it personally and they dont want to make the same errors of the past.

    They've got rid of the train line that used to run along Commercial Road - one less hazard for 2-wheelers in Weymouth. 😊

      They have indeed, shame but hey its safer for all road users now

    First two priorities are to remove them old council offices and that Cowell Shopping Centre.

      Why would you want to remove the colwell centre? It's such an interesting place. It's like walking into the 70s in there. It might be a fading crumbling relic but it's so interesting and beautiful in its own hideous sort of way. Many memories for some in there too. Don't be so quick to knock down ugly interesting places for pretty lifeless places. Because all it would become is flats.

    Just got back from a long weekend there. Stayed at the Penn Hotel. William Henry (Whetherspoons) has to be the cheapest place to eat and drink.

    I lived in Weymouth as a lad between 1969 and 79, and today was lamenting what had passed and been lost, and then, omg I realised I was a culprit. I converted fortes cafe to a hogs head pub in 1996. Sorry.

      Do you know these characters as from "John Cowper Powys's" novel "Weymouth Sands," I'm into my second read of this great novel & just wanted to get a feel of Weymouth , I have been there but a long time ago keep the good work up & thanks from myself.

    Great, the only thing that spoilt it for me, the unnecessary apostrophe at the final titles.

      I think the local authorities should hang their heads in shame at what the have allowed to be done to the beautiful architecture of this once regal town

    • @Walruz1000
      @Walruz1000 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Absolutely, I grew up there and it used to look amazing, it looks pretty horrible now and I cant believe they made some of the decisions they did.
