For me, I feel like an imposter. I don’t feel qualified to be doing what I’m doing and I’m afraid I’m making a fool of myself. I’m afraid I can’t trust my ears.

If I can add to this, remember that you are there to have fun. Start with a big smile and drag the listeners into your fun! It helps me a lot.

Well I can't do that my performance is a funeral. And I'm terrified it's in Spanish I don't even know Spanish but I know the song and I'm performing it in front of a ton of Mexican people

I love this lesson! The root of my anxiety is perfectionism. So afraid of making a mistake or hitting a note wrong because I am so nervous. And I don’t like being the center of attention. I grew up singing in choirs so it is easier to make mistakes and not be noticed. The funny thing is, I can sing a duet with someone and I feel less anxiety.

I feel like I'm afraid of my own voice, I'm afraid to be loud even though the point of being an artist is to be heard. I'm afraid of what people will think when they hear my voice.

Me too, it's your nervous system, fight or flight mode. If you keep showing up and sing even when you're shaking your body will learn this environment is safe and I promise the shaking will stop. Maybe start with singing for your family or friends, or I like karaoke at some bar where no one really knows you much lol. Just look at the lyrics and let your body shake, graduate from there to maybe looking at people next time. This helped me a lot.

This video came at a great time. Thank you for the tips and tricks. I hate how much my performance anxiety takes away the joy of performing for me. I have so much more music I want to share with others and these stupid thoughts and fears stifle it. Although, I did face my fear the other day and played a full song on the grand piano in the lobby of the hospital work for. I was full body shaking the whole time at 6:30am but it was a baby step.

I feel this is always a timely subject. Where I go to karaoke there is a professional singer. Oftentimes I have to sing directly before him or after him. So at times I get anxious feeling "inadequate". Sometimes the songs I sing regularly he will say "I'm going to steal your song tonight". I feel disappointment when I hear the applause the professional gets compared to the applause I got for the same song. I feel anxiety when performing it again. Thanks for this video!

My heart starts beating so hard and fast that you can hear it when I talk/sing. It feels like I have no control over anything, thoughts, breathing , even my voice and I’m hyper aware of everything going on around me. I’m not sure what I’m afraid of, but everyone’s attention on me is as if I feel everyone’s energy overwhelming me..

I don’t think I can say a specific I’m worried about ..I don’t know if fear or not but when I do go to do a solo or lead a song my voice goes tight and I’m not as powerful as normal it’s like it closes up…and it shakes ..it’s gotten worse as I get older..my voice has def changed as I get older in all ways even the strength and sound😥

Hi Janette! I wonder if you should consider the Catona method. Check out Wyzant and a vocal instructor/music producer by the name of Andrew. He's awesome! He has transformed my voice for the better! And the technique helps with reducing those nerves! This technique has helped people after surgery or damage sustained to their vocal cords.

How fascinating it is to continually realize that whenever we have certain technical issues when singing, it always boils down to a part within that we must begin the process of transcending. Voice lessons always become therapy sessions in order to get to the root of why, say, pitch is randomly off, or whatever else comes up in the "practice room". (Love that perspective by the way, Madeleine! Thank you)

I am afraid that I will be off key, and that the audience will not have a pleasing experience. I want my voice to be soothing, meaningful, and on key, and not breathy.

I'd love a playlist (sorry if there is one and I am not seeing it) dedicated on mindfulness around singing! :) I do watch your channel often but don't comment much. This one was very special and HAD to say something but mainly, thank you!

I'm afraid of it going wrong, I'm afraid of being laughed at. I remember I read one of my poems about Frankenstein when I was in school, and my classmates were laughing at me. I felt so afraid, and although I've performed so many times since, that fear has stuck with me.
