I agree. At 76, I've been invited to sing at a 16 voice a capella serious renaissance group. I've always sang soprano, but I so much want to sing with this group so I agreed. Goodness, 8t is soooo tricky to find my pitches now
Love this breakdown Madeleine, thank you for those brilliant insights.. I've seen a lot of videos focusing on technique, but you articulated all the problems I couldn't put into words, but i just knew im not hitting the notes as precisely as i thought in my mind when i hear back my recordings, and now I can identify the real issue that's causing me to sound off!.. I have a tendency to sing along straight away, and i get used to this incorrect pitch that I've taught myself, and even when I learn good technique, sometimes I revert back to my old habits because that's how i conditioned my brain to think the melody was.. I didn't focus on listening and tuning accurately, just singing along thinking I'm doing a good job 😂
I’m an alto and I can’t go to high and I really want to..I sound like a dying cow when I got high. When I sing in the same pitch as the high pitch I can actually do it, but I can’t do a low to high 😭
I've never taken any sort of music classes, until today, and my instructor says that I'm an A- flat. He says that my voice is very soothing and relaxing, that I sound like I'm singing a lullaby. So I figured, let me check out what exactly does an A-flat sounds like, and so far I find videos about fixing flat voices. So now I'm wondering whether my instructor is just pulling my leg about sounding soothing.
Is there an app or system that you recommend to practice listening and then singing? Are there any that show what the pitch of the song is and then also your singing? How would one go about this setup?
I've been singing for years, and I've been told my skillset is fair because I don't have the ability to hear chords or harmonies well. It takes time to ear training, and I'm willing to do it. Where do I start? Thank you for your videos
I've been having this trouble recently that i never had... I can't breathe when I'm singing high notes and it gets realllly painful and I'm literally gasping for air after like just one minute of singing (and quite audibly)... I'm assuming I've picked up some wrong habit since i was able to sing those earlier... What should I do?
honestly, you are such a keen observer and wonderful instructor/teacher/motivator. you are so wonderful and i appreciate everything you do for us singers 💐🤍

She's honestly theee best. & this video is probably the most important in regards to finding your voice & allowing it to be free.
Thank you. As an Alto, that has been a challenge especially when singing in a choral setting. I’ve been curious about this.

Resonating with my nose helps the most when aiming.. is this right?
Can you recommend pitch listening apps?
Good questions! I love Pano Tuner.

What should I do?
Sounds like chest breathing vs diaphragm, maybe? Also, being sick can take me out for a while afterwards! Like weeks 😪
How about in reading or using the speaking voice, how do you make the voice sound great or interesting?
Check out a previous video we did on "How to Make Your Voice Sound More Interesting": th-cam.com/video/L0M_qxpv6qU/w-d-xo.html
is it wrong to be comfortable in higher keys than lower keys
Everyone is different. Just honor yourself and your uniqueness
