I learnt so much more in your 10 minute tutorial than I have watching a myriad of other, lengthy polymer clay tutorials. Thanks a bunch Sofia! I'll be watching more.
I been showing my 4 y/o daughter videos of clay artistry and she loves it so now I have to learn all about clay so that she can safely play and create her own cool stuff and videos like this are great for me to learn so a big thank you from me and my daughter.
You are an excellent teacher and very talented. Thank you so much for the time and effort to put this very helpful video together. I dabble in polymer clay jewelry making and am interested in branching out a little with some sculpting because it looks so fun!
After watching so many videos(I mean just one TH-cam channel) of clay sculpting and i realized it looks fun, and easy if you have enough patience and a lot of time to sculpting and re-sclupting your sculpture.
Just beginning my sculpting journey with polymer clay and i have to say - This one video hit 99% of the questions I had in mind! Great content and many thanks for putting this together! :)
I’m proud to have figured out some of your pro tips on my own, but you still “wow’d” me with a number of brilliant tips. You have upped my game! Thank you!
Starting my journey with clay next year so I'm so happy to have found this channel! You explain everything so nicely and show it well on top of also giving us some amazing finished works. Genuinely thank you 💙
Omg!!! This has been one of the MOST useful videos ever!!! And this is coming from a self proclaimed you tube tutorial aholic. Plus, such a beautiful piece
This is so incredible. I’ve been on a buying spree of Etsy clay food miniature jewelry. As such, I’ve become curious about the process and this answered it all.
Sofia, I just Liked and Subscribed. I made this wonderful figure but neglected to use the proper clay, the kind you are using that you can bake so that the whole work hardens. But, now, I want to dive in and get back to it. I have some sculpture projects I really want to get done this new year. Thanks so much for a very informative and inspiring video.
Thank you for the videos teaching about sculpting! I enjoy them all, and I've learned so much about sculpting. I appreciate that you have taken the time to share your knowledge on TH-cam so that people like me can learn about different clays and various techniques. You're very talented.
Wow Such a great tutorial!!! I've looked at so many but yours was soooooooo Informative, The break downs you give are short and simple to understand do you give private lessons!! lol this is great stuff I've always wanted to learn how to do this! Greatt video hope to see more like em!
These are top tips!!! Your video is such a great tutorial. I never knew about armatures or using a loop tool and isopropyl alcohol to smooth and blend! This will help me make even better polymer clay gifts for my friends and family
Thank you for the wonderful tips and tricks! I'm so happy to find your channel. Love your work. You've inspired me to make a clay vase for my mother for Valentines day ♥️ and put flowers in it. Sending positive vibes your way. Thank you
Omg so many things I didn't even know! Thank youuuuuu for making this video! 👏❤ It was super helpful. I'm going to be trying these techniques for sure. You're awesome! 👏
That was so informative, thank you for sharing. I've been thinking about making more than just jewellery; this is the perfect place to see what can be made. I worry about the stickiness of the clay, and in exploring ways to combat that I've found Baby powder to be effective, plus it has a very faint fragrance which is quite pleasant. I've not heard of the other clay you mentioned, perhaps it is not available over here in the UK.
This video was very helpful! I have just begun learning polymer clay, and I've had problems with stickiness and smoothing surfaces, so the cornstarch and isopropyl tips will help immensely! Thank you so much for the tips! Where do you purchase your cosclay?
I might have to spend time carving in polymer clay begrudgingly because i'm making color swatches and wanted to put label stickers on the backs of the baked clays, even tried testing it to see if the adhesive might turn my clays sticky after a month..... 2 months later checking on it and the damn thing wasn't even attacked to it >.> I don't know if sticker labels generally don't stay adhered to polymer clay. My new plan might be to carve the names of the colors on the back, then paint the area in white like i wanted with the white plain stickers and then adding black paint in the cervices of the carved bits to make it look like i have a label on the back with black words. I liked the look of the sticker idea also it was more convenient..... Oh well. Also the other problem i discovered with my sticker idea is i wrote in black pen ink on the stickers and noticed on one of my baked pieces a bit of pen ink transferred on to one of my baked clays i guess from it being pressed up to a loose sticker in the same bag. So i also have to test to see if pen ink will transfer to polymer clay if a label is pressed against another clay piece. The ink wasn't wet, i gave them 24hrs to dry before rehandling the stickers because pen ink tends to smear, so i know the ink was dry but some of it still transferred on to one of my baked swatches.
I returned my apoxie sculpt after learning about how toxic that epoxy clay is. Im so glad i watched your video just now, this is so helpful. I didnt know pre baking was a thing and that i can continue to build with polymer clay instead of having to do it all at once. Thank you so much
What an excellent video - my daughter is interested in making anime characters and I had no idea that polymer clay existed...this is a whole new world of making for her. And a technical Q from me...if you were making a large piece, as in too big for the oven, is there a way to harden the clay using a heat gun? Or would you make individual pieces, bake them and then connect them together somehow?
Hello Sofia, excellent job, I love how much talent you have! Question: do you think there is any material that would flow like a soft jellyfish under water when 'dry'? Thank you so much in advance!! Sabine
Thanks for all the info! does the corn starch work on fimo? i had some very old fimo, i brought back to life with some sculpey softer and petrolatum , but it made it very puddy like. and sticky
I’m new to polymer clay but I’ve worked with ceramic clay a lot. I am going to introduce it for exploration at my clay club, at my local school so I think the alcohol substance you mention wouldn’t be possible to use in the school environment. What other substances can be used instead?
Awesome video! A lot of techniques, thank you for them! Could you, please, give an advise about painting? When you use acrylic paints is it possibility to avoid scratches on your sculpture? I carefully cover my sculpture with one-two layer of acrylic paint, wait until it dry and then finish it with varnish , but result is always the same- if I scratch it by my nail a little bit harder the paint peels off. It is important for me because I try to make jewelries and need to be sure that they will be during okay during skin contact. Thanks in advance!
One thing that I have seen in another artist's video that you may find helpful... don't water down acrylics with water because it will actually mess up their ability to bind properly. This is fine at first, but will lead to eventual flaking and fading of the paint. Instead, they said airbrush medium is great to water down acrylics with and it won't cause the binders in the paint to fall apart. Anyway, your alien spring onion was gorgeous and thanks for the tips. Can you explain "pre-baking" please?
Another excellent paint to use is oils. I MUCH prefer water soluble oils, with no solvents to deal with. You can get some great washes from them and because the paint is applied thin it dries within a day or two, usually overnight. You can make some great color blends and you don’t have to worry about paint drying before wiping off.
I’m yet to watch this entirely I’m only at 1 minute, but does Fimo soft help for beginners? I’m physically disabled and this includes my hands/fingers with multiple things in all my joints but I absolutely adore making art and trying things out. I do realize that Fimo soft is actually quite soft especially because my hands become hot (not sweaty) due to slight inflammation because I’m using them. Will the heat make normal clay less hard to work with for me? Or will it be too hard for me to work? Mixing colors with fimo soft can already be painful if I do it too long for reference. I just find that sometimes when I use this clay, it becomes too soft to a point I can’t grab details because ruining them like little bows, leaves, grass etc. even with a tiny point tool.
I just saw dozens of videos about Polymer Clay and this is by far the best one for begginers like me.
I learnt so much more in your 10 minute tutorial than I have watching a myriad of other, lengthy polymer clay tutorials. Thanks a bunch Sofia! I'll be watching more.
Clay is sooo tricky because these videos make it look easy but once you try you fail miserably and realize it's actually not easy lol
Not with that attitude 😢
Keep at it!!🙏🏽
I love your alien spring onion! This tips are jewels.
Thank you 😊 glad you found the tips helpful.
I been showing my 4 y/o daughter videos of clay artistry and she loves it so now I have to learn all about clay so that she can safely play and create her own cool stuff and videos like this are great for me to learn so a big thank you from me and my daughter.

Lots of great tips bundled into a single, short, no-nonsense video. Great work.

If you used a see through style tube for the tentacles somehow and LED strips, it would make for an incredibly unique lantern/torch.
It's lovely what ever it is. Thanks for the info very helpful.
You are very welcome 😊

Perfect tutorial

What kind of roller is that, around the 2:00 minute mark?
I might have to spend time carving in polymer clay begrudgingly because i'm making color swatches and wanted to put label stickers on the backs of the baked clays, even tried testing it to see if the adhesive might turn my clays sticky after a month..... 2 months later checking on it and the damn thing wasn't even attacked to it >.> I don't know if sticker labels generally don't stay adhered to polymer clay.

I'd like to know more about washes and using pigment powder.
You have done beautiful tutorials, but where did you buy your loop tool?
Excellent tutorial and art piece , one question though, how come you baked it separately? I'm looking forward to trying it , I've never tried before
That’s outstanding

Thanks for all the info! does the corn starch work on fimo? i had some very old fimo, i brought back to life with some sculpey softer and petrolatum , but it made it very puddy like. and sticky
Yes corn starch will work with any polymer clay 😊 great that you were able to recycle the clay!
Can you do a video on the comparison pros and cons of polymer vs air dry

When you blend the Sculpey and Coclay together is it still break resistant or does it get brittle like the sculpey alone.
you are absolutely fabulous

Was wondering if any problems with using this to create aquarium pieces?
