Sonic Frontiers actually does something relatively similar! You save these little rock dudes that look kinda like the guys in this video. They don't follow you but you do get to hang out with all the ones you saved :)

It definitely did.
I could see these characters in a multiplayer, calm, puzzle game where all of them try to solve puzzles by pushing other rocks or scaring birds etc etc. Probably in the untitled goose game style of colouring and mechanics 😊

Ive had an idea in my head for a collection of rock and crystal friends since prepandemic. Every couple weeks I think about them but so far they only live in my head. I think this might be the motivation I needed to finally give making them a go.
