these are quite popular in the urban sketchers community in Poland, I enjoy using them (as well as the more colour-matched versions from a set, like your tri-tones, but in Europe they're under the Magic name too and I happen to have the jumbo triangular versions, though I've seen people using the thin ones) for quick portraits just using one colour :D frankly, the neon one I'm not a fan of, but I have recently tried it on black paper and I think I might have found a use for it :) the original one is definitely the most popular (and it comes in a thinner core too!)
the 5 big pencils I wouldn't use for colouring tbh, maybe the fire one, but the rest are more of a fun colourful sketching experience

Maybe because I’m watching on my phone but I wouldn’t buy the magic or the tri tone pencils. I don’t like the colors and how they blended. I’ll stick with regular colored pencils and blending techniques. Thank you, you just saved me money.

I put my odourless Spirits into a water brush. I also used a dried out marker, cleaned out an empty dry copic, And then let the tip and the inside spongy piece soak soak in a bowl with the spirits. And of us I just used a paint brush. I fun the first two really good from the go.

I think I might get a lot of use from the set of 24, but I'm not sure that I would use the set of 5 very often. Like you mentioned, coloring mandalas would probably be fun with these pencils. Thanks for sharing your tips and recommendations with us!!

First, this was an excellent video both in your presentation and the technical aspect. The magic pencils are interesting but I am hesitant in purchasing them at this time. I prefer the 24 tricolor because I think there is better control of achieving the color, tone and effect. Again, a great video and looking forward to watching more from you. Thank you.

The 23 set of Magic pencils is way cheaper than the set of Tri-Tones here, in Ireland. Also the big set of Magic pencils have the same color names as the Tri-Tone ones and looking at your swatches they actually look pretty much the same as the Magic.
As far as I know the set of fives you have is an addition to the full set of 23 pencils and they are like extra effects.
Fun fact: you can buy the neon one at the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona as a souvenir in their shop with a special print on it.
I work a lot with the Magic pencils because they are great for the style of story books. When you draw and colour with them the end result looks a bit childish, fun and charming. I love the richness of the colours they produce and the bigger pencil makes it easier to colour in larger areas and puts less strain on my hand in general.

I bought a set. Mostly I plan in using them (when they arrive) in sketches and for colourful more rainbow lineart. I have great erasers that allow erasing any coloured pencils! Namely the faber-castell dust free eraser. As well as for traveling and random challenges.

Thanks for another great review! I've owned the 5 set of Magic for a couple years and I think they're really fun to use. I just swatched mine again a few days ago, on reference cards this time. I was really excited to see the color names, because my packaging is long gone. My neon pencil barrel has the same color as yours, but my America pencil is light and dark blue swirls. That was confusing for a minute. :) My tropical barrel has a lot of purple swirled in with the green and blue. The other two barrels seem to be very similar to yours. My three digit numbers on the barrels were different from your pencils, but consistent. (Yours that were numbered 031 are both 070 in my set.) The longer UPC numbers seem to be the same on both our sets. I only have 11 tri-tones, and now I really want that pink tri-tone pencil. Full set syndrome strikes again!

Colorful, Jennifer! Thank you for showing those five beautiful 3-in-1 colorful pencils!
I have the Tri-Tones and a set of the 23+1 Magic pencils, and I enjoy using all of them. The set of five you showed in the video are additional to what's in my tin, so I'll likely buy that five-pack soon to add to my current set (or wait to see if Koh-i-noor will add them to another multi-set later). I wasn't too happy that the pencils didn't have color names on them, so I wrote them on the pencils with either a Micron pen or a white gel pen, depending on the barrel's color scheme.

I just got another set of tri-tone pencils and they are my new favorites. It's the Koh-I-Noor Magic Christmas Limited Edition. There are 23 plus a blender in the tin. They are woodless with a nice enamel coating. Most have snowflakes on top of the usual swirled colors on the barrels. The colors seem to blend better than my other Koh-I-Noor pencils.

So enjoyed your Magic tonight. I own the Magic set of 23+1, you taught more today to add to my knowledge. I use "AFMAT 6-12mm" sharpener so far, I have not found a pencil it will not sharpen to a perfect long point move the dial and it can make the point less sharp, these pencils worked perfectly, with a warning to hold the pencil as vertical as possible, even my beloved Prismas are happy no broken points since I bought it. So far, I have used the Magic pencils on backgrounds flowers, clothing and houses, admittedly with the first-time learning curve. I am very happy with them they are a lot of fun.

They Koh-I-Noor Magic pencils actually come in few different sets (and shapes, and sizes...) - some with random colours like in your video, and some with 3 shades of the same colour in one pencil.
I have a 24 woodless set (which mostly has 3 shades of the same colour in one pencil, with like 3 exceptions). I also have the big "tropical" pencil, which is absolutely beautiful (and sooo nice to touch, lol), and a normal sized wooded hexagonal "original" one. I need to get that neon one too

I have the 24 set of thick triangular Magic pencils which I do think overlap the Tri tones. They seem like a non specific set, but the thick cores spread out force and end up feeling too hard and less vivid than Tri tones. I was hoping for "Magnus Polychromos" but in use are more like something for kids. They are pretty and feel nice in hand.

    Hi Jennifer-
I like your coloring books. Many others have such intricate patterns you can hardly get a pencil in the area. For me especially, because I like to color with a dull pencil. I am heavy handed with the pressure and don’t like the cores crumbleing after sharpening to a fine point.
I really like that you keep the focus of your channel narrow. I like mixed media and when I have a question about pencils &/or paper I check your play list and generally can be sure I will find my answer here!! Thank You! What type of ventilation do you have there in your studio? Your setup is so nice for filming, but I picture you in an alcove in the basement with all windows covered so the lighting can be controlled. So there would be no ventilation. I’m probably so wrong, but I wonder so I can be sure to have good ventilation.
    Thanks so much

Does anybody think that they made these pencils as a way to recycle a bunch of materials left over from making regular pencils? Just maybe three them all into the grinder to experiment with a new product?
